Site sponsor Kapow! Toys dropped by with a pictorial review of the recently released Transformers Prime Deluxe Dark Energon Wheeljack, a very Slicer-esque translucent redeco of Transformers Prime RID Deluxe Wheeljack. Enjoy the review below.

Dark Energon Deluxe Wheeljack

If you want a Slicer for your collection then this is your guy, its already a really cool mold which I own as Wheeljack and Deadend, did I hesitate on a 3rd ? yeah I did, I wasn't sure about these guys until they were in hand, what swung it was the fact they are not all translucent, its mostly the arms and lower legs, everything else is pretty much regular solid plastic.

Not going over old ground too much this guy has great articulation and swords so there are 2 good points straight away, his 3rd and best point is the new colours, they really do pop especially the red eyes set against a burnt orange / gold mouth plate. Car mode is nice and sleek and fits together very well without any apparent problems. If your not a repaint fan then consider this for your classics collection, I know Botcon did Slicer but that figure is a brick, this guy is sleek and sexy with turbo handling!

Overall we score Dark Energon Wheeljack a mighty 8/10

So am I the only one that thinks this thing looks hideous?

I'm sure you're not alone.

However, it really is magnificent in hand. Cameras can't quite capture the sheen that these figures have, even on the non-translucent parts. I got Wheeljack and Knock Out, and there's not a dull color on them. Even the Dark Purple on Knock Out really stands out, and I'm not even sure how. The plastic also feels like a higher quality than even normal Hasbro figures.

Also, from what I've noticed, at least on Wheeljack and Knock Out, the faction symbols seem to be an odd sort of tampograph on the figure, and would likely come off with a little rubbing alcohol or whatever you guys use. Of course, Knock Out has stylized Decepticon emblems on his sides which seem to be paint apps, so I don't think those will come off.

I think he looks fabulous. Dead End was the hideous one and he's a great toy too! I don't have the original because one Wheeljack is fine for my Classics, but Dead End was so awesomely fugly, and I'm loving the looks of Slicer, can't wait to get my hands on him. Thanks for the pics!

I'll probably grab this when I don't have other Transformers priorities. Even then, if he's going to be my Prime Slicer, I'll need to buy a couple of 'con stickers to put over those 'bot logos.

Looks nice, but I can just see those elbow joints going to heck in time. It starts with a little crack...then Palisades Micronauts syndrome!

Slicer was a European exclusive Action Master, a repaint of G1 Action Master Wheeljack. Later he resurfaced as a BotCon 2010 Exclusive, repainted from Energon Downshift who was modeled after Wheeljack. Here are some images with both:

By the by, BotCon 2010 Slicer can be used as a stand-in for Shattered Glass Wheeljack, who happens to share body and colors. That's why the sculped Autobot symbol is colored purple. ;)

Thanks! is there any fiction he's involved in (besides the TFCC stuff)like IDW or any of the Jap G1 cartoons?

Not at all, considering Japan never heard of him, and the US just got to know him :)

He did appear in an extra story of the BotCon 2010 comic. In it, he meets his so-called future self, or to be exact his double, SG Wheeljack. Wheeljack tricked Slicer into giving him a container of Forestonite in exchange for the Autobot battle plans for the next couple of centuries, which turned out to be nothing but a copy of Ninja Gladiator for the Magnographix 16.

Yes, it's a parody, based on Ninja Gaiden and some other game, while the system is based on the Turbographix 16, and Magnavox.

I'm personally using the DE Deluxes for: Slicer, Slipstream, Makeshift and Ghostbug. (the latter two being characters I've sort of made up) who are a team put together by Megatron to steal some kinda thingy-ma-bob from the Autobots, and only they can do it, due to their Dark Energon experimentation leaving them somewhat out of phase with reality. Not quite a Transwarp shunt, but enough to give them "walking through walls" and other weird powers.

(yeah, I think too much about silly gummi repaints)
