Platform of Doom!

Out in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico a lonely oil rig stands out of the water. The crew went about their work as they did every other day, working to bring up the vast reserves of oil that lay beneath the ocean bed. It was hard work, especially isolated as they were, but the pay was good. Unfortunately, that isolation made them a perfect target.

Somewhere over the Gulf of Mexico

Starscream was at the head of his formation of Seekers as the multi-coloured task force soared through the air, the water beneath them racing past. The oil rig that was their target was close, and although it was massive, and contained a large amount of the fuel the Decepticons on Earth needed, it was a small fraction of the total they required. Nevertheless, this assault was greatly required for the future plans of the Empire on this planet and it had to go off without a hitch.

"Thundercracker, Skywarp. I want you to take your formations and attack the facility from the east and west. Destroy and communications devices and installations, as well as eliminate any methods of escape, whether they be airborne or seaborne. Astrotrain you are with me and we will attack the facility directly." Starscream changed his approach vector for a direct attack run on the human facility. "Decepticons! Attack!"

As soon as he gave the word the Seeker Commander opened fire with his full arsenal ripping into the main deck of the oil rig.

Thundercracker couldn't understand why they had to use such a sophisticated attack methods against something that offered practically no resistance. They could have just landed on the rig and began working. Of course, revealing their true forms to the fleshlings would force the Decepticons to either capture or slay the whole crew of the oil rig but that had been clear from the beginning. It was waste of life and something Thundercracker did not enjoy taking part of but he also understood it was a necessary. Still, it didn't make him loathe the infiltration protocol any less. Then again, it did not help at all that he had allowed Frenzy to sneak into the mission ranks after meeting the small Decepticon at the med bay. The small punk was not exactly pleasant travel companion.

>>"Acknowledged. Boom incoming, protect yourselves."<< Thundercracker replied to Starscream while giving a warning for his fellow Decepticons before channeling a focused sonic blast against the oil rig - the blast shattering all glass substances on the rig and deafening the rig's crew temporarily if not for good.

"As for you Frenzy, its your time to shine." Thundercracker spoke to the small Decepticon sitting inside his cockpit.

Making an attack run towards the rig with his formation of seekers, the blue seeker let his incendiary guns to tore through the helicopter sitting in the rig's landing pad before sending another transmission and jettisoning Frenzy from his cockpit as he made a pass over the rig. >>"Unleashing the tiny terror."<<

"Suck my tailpipe Thundercracker!" The small Decepticon bellowed as he tried to take control of his flight instead of flailing aimlessly through the air into the ocean below.

Finally managing to get hold of his flight trajectory, Frenzy grabbed a hold of the rig's main tower and attached himself to it. >>"Jammer up and running, you slaggers better not hit this tower 'less you want yer ugly mugs all over the fleshbag news reports!"<<

Hellion would have smirked at Nightraven if they weren’t both in their jet modes. She replied on their personal channel.

>>”You don’t exactly swoon, but I’ve been around you enough to notice how you act when he’s around. It’s probably only obvious to me and no one else, its just subtle little things. You stand at attention a little better, act more like a proper little Decepticon. No one else really notices the difference, probably because you are used to being sneaky and it just comes naturally to you.”<<

The seeker’s attention snapped back to the mission as Starscream barked out some orders. She stifled her annoyance and just followed the orders, breaking off with Thundercracker’s group. She activated her weapons systems. Her missiles were hot and her machine guns were loaded. She watched as Thundercracker did his thing ahead of them, softening up the target ahead of them. She tuned out the annoying patter from Frenzy. Why even bothering jamming it if they were going to blow the whole place up anyway? Well, if he got in her way, too bad for him.

Hellion fired off one of her missiles, detonating against the platform and taking out a whole group of humans. She followed it up with a strafing run with her machine guns. She could feel her fuel pump thudding inside of her from the thrill of battle, or as close to battle as this was. It was better than nothing at least.

*

Firebat was not equipped with any long range weapons so he was forced to watch as the other seekers opened fire on the rig before he could close in on it. He was pleased to see the explosions and the fireballs they generated, but he knew they would pale in comparison to his own flames. Finally he swooped in low over the platform and opened up with his flame throwers. His flames engulfed the few remaining workers out in the open along with various other bits of flammable material.

He came around for another pass, disappointed at the lack of large flames he had created. He was going to have to ignite the fuel itself to get the fire he desired. The seeker would just have to wait until they had siphoned off however much they needed for themselves. Then the rest would burn, a worthy sacrifice to the flames.

*

Astrotrain wasn’t really built for air to ground combat, but he was more adept at it than a dogfight. With no small amount of pleasure he lowered his belly turret and opened fire on the oil rig. So far Screamer was delivering on his words. That kept the triplechanger happy, for now. At the same time he opened his hatch. “Whenever you want to join in the fun, go ahead and take the plunge Darkride. The only way I’m landing on that thing is by transforming and I’d rather not do that with you inside.” He reduced speed as he flew over the rig, allowing the other Decepticon a window to jump down on to it if he wanted.

Nightraven would have nodded at her sister at her explanation of her behavior when ever she is around Thundercracker. Everything Hellion said was true, she did stand at attention more, she did act a little more proper. So why is it that she could act like she was interested but she refused to actually do anything about it? She silently chided herself but quickly was brought back to reality when the oil rig came into sight.

As she came in low behind Thundercracker and Hellion she strafed the platform with her lasers. Once she past the rig she came back around and noticed the boats docked near the platform. She let loose her laser guided bombs once she was over her targets and watched as the humans’ last line of escape were destroyed.

She moved past the rig and stayed out of sight for a few moments; she hated that she was involved in destroying so many innocent lives, but it was a necessity. She came back around and reluctantly took aim at a group of fleeing humans; she felt her fuel pump drop as she opened fire effectively killing each one.

*********

Darkride moved over to the open hatch and hung his head in the open air. A smile creased his lips as he saw the seeker teams strafe the platform and take out a couple dozen human workers. He took in what Astrotrain had said and responded by jumping out. He landed on the platform and drew his shrapnel rifle, but before he fired off any rounds he moved to squash two humans that were underfoot. He hissed with glee as he heard their screams before stomping on them.

With a laugh he then spotted another group of humans trying to get back into the rig to find a place to hide from their attackers. He took aim and fired off a round that exploded above the assembly and rained razor sharp metal down upon them slicing into every part of their bodies killing each one. He then set to work acquiring the fuel that was stored on the platform.

Approaching the Oil Rig

Skywarp could see the oil platform directly ahead. Once Starscream gave the word to attack, ‘Warp led his squad towards the east side of the rig and then opened fire with his lasers, ripping through the metal girders with ease. Humans tumbled down onto the lower levels of the rig where they were either impaled on broken steel beams or crushed under heavy debris. Others fell into the sea, flailing helplessly in the cold, churning waters. ‘Warp quickly came around and picked off each floating flesh sack one by one with his lasers and then watched as they sunk from view.

Setting his sights back on the platform, Skywarp targeted a communications dish on the main deck. Once he was locked on 'Warp fired his lasers, striking the base of the dish which caused it to topple over in a ruined heap of scrap. Heh! Just in case Frenzy's jammer doesn't do its job, 'Warp thought, laughing at the tiny fleshlings as they scurried about trying to escape from the Decepticon attack. “Pathetic creatures these humans,” the teleporter muttered to himself.

Skywarp then made another pass on the platform, scanning the area for potential targets. He detected a large number of humans huddled inside a section of the oil rig. It appeared to be the main crew quarters where the humans went to rest when they weren’t working. Their feeble attempt to hide only delayed the inevitable. ‘Warp targeted the crew quarters and unleashed a barrage of laser fire, setting off a series of intense explosions that completely destroyed the humans’ last remaining sanctuary. Those inside the quarters were either blown to pieces or burned alive in the raging inferno that followed.

“That was fun,” Skywarp commented as he flew over the rig again and banked hard to the right. His scanners then picked up something on the water’s surface not far from the oil rig. It was a sea plane racing away at top speed. Before long, the tiny plane was airborne and well on its way towards land. Skywarp could only laugh at their escape attempt. It was almost as pathetic as the fleshlings that tried to hide from him inside the rig. When will these creatures learn? 'Warp thought. Hopefully never! Ha! Ha!

Skywarp then vanished and instantly reappeared in front of the escaping sea plane. The human pilot was startled at the sudden appearance of an F-22 Raptor and tried desperately to avoid it. However, it was no use. The black and purple seeker fired a missile at the small plane, swiftly obliterating it in a ball of fire.

With that out of the way, Skywarp quickly teleported back to the oil platform where he unleashed another round of laser fire on the already battered structure.

Blackstar was keeping himself occupied picking off the few small escape boats and crew members of the Oil Rig that were swimming in the water in a desperate attempt to flee the situation. There must be no witnesses, no unforseen calls for help, this should be a simple by-the-book mission. The black and gold seeker was trying to keep a little distance between himself and the newer members, their childish banter made Skywarps pranks seem mature. Picking off the last life raft, Blackstar turns to help the others lay siege to the damaged platform.

Over the Gulf of Mexico

The attack was going well, of course Starscream expected nothing less. It might seem strange to most that he would of chosen such a complex attack pattern to strike a relatively weak and defenseless target, but taking that mindset on such raids only proved to make warriors lazy and dull their skills. It was also best to the Seeker Commander to practice proper military procedure even if it was little more then an exercise. At least his warriors would keep their skills honed.

Skywarp and Thundercracker were doing well in crippling any communciations and escape routes with their teams. With the first stage of the operation already well in hand, it was time to secure the rig proper. The seeker angled his approach and slowed his speed so he wouldn't over shoot the rig.

>>"Astrontrain, it is time we secured the rig and make sure there is no threat to our operation. Transform and land."<<

With his order given Strascream transformed and landed on the Rig, observing the fires and destruction wrought upon this facility by his Seekers. There was clear chaos amongst the human survivors as the mangled deck was ablaze in several places. The Seeker walked forward, looking around, and spotted the control room for the deck. He raised his arm and fired his arm mounted laser cannon, ripping into the structure and tearing it apart with blast of flame.

Astrotrain was swinging around for another pass when he received the orders from Starscream. He was nowhere near as maneuverable as the seeker was so it took him a bit more time to turn around and come back to the platform. By the time he had transformed and landed Starscream was lying waste to the control room. Astrotrain joined in with some fire of his own, eliminating some straggling humans. It felt good to be on the frontlines, although slaughtering some flesh creatures wasn’t exactly a challenge.

The triplechanger turned to look over at Starscream. “Should I start collecting the…” He stopped mid-sentence as the group of Autobots materialized in front of them. “Slag!” He opened up on them with his rifle as he quickly moved towards some cover. This battle had just got a lot more interesting.

*

On the Oil Rig

Sunstreaker had a cruel smirk on his face as he materialized on the platform. No more meetings, plans or strategy, now it was just time to fight, to kill or be killed. That was his specialty, what he was built for. He took only a second to size up the situation around him. As soon as he set his optics on Starscream he knew what his target was going to be.

The yellow Autobot wasn’t stupid. He knew he wasn’t a match for the likes of Megatron or Shockwave. You needed one of the big guys to take on those powerhouses. Starscream was a different story. He was just another seeker with delusions of grandeur. He thought he was hot stuff, but he was just another one of the Con flying idiots. He would enjoy knocking him down a peg or two.

He dived forward to avoid the spray of fire coming from Astrotrain. He turned the dive into a roll, coming up on one knee as he leveled his rifle at Starscream and squeezed the trigger. A burst of fire went flying towards the seeker. He didn’t think he would hit the flier, but he would be ready for his next move.

*

“Geez!” Sideswipe shouted as they seemingly bounced down right into the middle of things. He ducked down as Astrotrain sprayed blasts at them. A quick glance around showed only Starscream and Astrotrain close to them. He nearly rolled his optics as he saw his brother already locking his sights on the head Seeker. Of course he would take the juiciest target for himself. Well, he would just find his own then.

The red Autobot activated his rocket pack and shot up into the air. He circled around the platform, spotting the various seekers strafing and circling it. He wasn’t really eager to repeat his earlier battle with Con fliers, so he picked a new target this time. He darted after Blackstar, firing his photon rifle at him. “Come on ya cowardly con, stopping running and fight me, if ya got the struts for it!”

*

Hellion could feel the thrill of battle sweeping over her as she came around again for another pass and saw the Autobots materialize on the rig. Now it was really a fight and not just target practice. She opened fire on the rig as she approached it once again, trying to strafe the Autobots before transforming and landing on the platform. While she was a weapons laden seeker, she always preferred her fighting to be up close and personal. It was the only way to truly satisfy her berserker rage.

She only glanced at the Autobots before picking a target. She charged at Ironhide. She’d heard of his reputation as a tough old veteran. She would enjoy disproving his name as she ripped the sparkcore from his chest. She launched a powerful punch aimed at Ironhide’s face with her right fist.

*

Firebat swept over the rig once more, pleased to see various explosions and fires dotting it. Many humans were also being sacrificed to the flames, but it didn’t quite feel like enough. The flames were challenging the seas around them, but it didn’t feel like a truly worthy sacrifice, not for his first one on this world. It needed something more special then this.It was then that he saw the Autobots materialize on the rig. It was as if his prayer to the flames was answered. Now he could truly honor them with a worth sacrifice.

The flamethrower swooped low over the rig and transformed. “You will all be worthy sacrifices to the flames! You honor them with your fiery deaths!” He yelled out towards the Autobots. He lifted his arms and flamethrowers at the closest one, Hound. “Rejoice as you are the first to embrace the flames!” He activated his weapons and sent a spray of fire towards Hound.

Ironhide dodged as the Decepticon female punched at him, whirled around, and fired. He didn't wait to see if it hit - he was in his element now. To make sure that the female wouldn't come back to haunt him, he blasted several holes in the ground around him. Knowing that wouldn't be enough, he fired at her with his water gun, using it to stick her feet to the rig. Above him, Astrotrain, Sideswipe, and Starscream were swarming like flies. Ironhide knelt and began taking potshots at Seekers. Then, he wisely jumped down to safety so the Decepticons on the platform couldn't sneak up on him.

"Come on, you stinkin' Cons, let's do it!"

He pulled the trigger, blowing a Seeker's wing to scrapmetal. He knew the Seeker had survived, but the Seeker was unimportant - an unnamed, unimportant flier who the Decepticons kept around merely for the joy of having forces who didn't have to be guarded. Whirling around, he found that Starscream was dodging a blast by Sunstreaker. Grinning, he realized it was his perfect opportunity. He pulled the trigger. Again not stopping to see if the blow hit, he whirled and prepared to reengage the female Decepticon.

The sudden appearance of the Autobots was a welcomed change of plans. While an undetected mission would have been preferable, a skirmish was just what he was aching for.
Sideswipe wrote:“Come on ya cowardly con, stopping running and fight me, if ya got the struts for it!”

Blackstar narrowly dodges the shot fired by Sideswipe. The sheer audacity was dumbfounding, yet respectable. The bot was out gunned, out classed, and much less maneuverable than even the clumsiest Seeker, yet he tries any way. Blackstar is one of the best Seeker marksmen, and plans to make quick work of this valiant pest. Initiating evasive maneuvers and keeping his distance from the bot, Blackstar transforms into his robot form opening fire with his deadly Dol lasers.

Oil Platform

Prowl materialized with the rest of the Autobots on the platform. Everyone wasted no time getting to work, which he liked. Now came the hard part. He noticed that the Decepticons had aerial superiority already, which would be a problem given their numbers. He needed a way to distract them. It was then he ganced at Hound and an idea popped into his head.

Not wanting the Decepticons to hear his plans he switched to a private channel directed at Hound. >> "Hound, I have an idea. I want you to create a holographic squadron of F-117 fighters incomming and engaging the Decepticons in the air. Given their technology, it should be easy to fool the Decepticons given their stealth technology should evade their radar."

Hopefully this would give them a couple of minutes if the airborne Decepticon could be distracted. It was then that incomming fire got his attention. "Heads up!" he said as he pointed at the incomming Decepticons.

As Firebat came in for an attack on Hound, Prowl fired his Acid pellet rife repeatedly and some missiles for good measure at the Decepticon seeker, in an effort to force the seekers to deviate from attack.

He also took a moment to survey the surrounding platform. it was a loss at best. Most, if not all, the humans had been killed with all means of escape cut off by their attackers. At least, he could do his best by giving the Decepticons a good beatting for them. Looking around, he noticed a Decepticon Darkride, on the platform. He fired several shots form his acid pellet rifle at the Decepticon as he moved in to engage him.

Oil Rig

Starscream had been turning to face Astrotrain when the triple-changer began to ask his question and a look of confusion passed over the Seeker Commanders face when the other Decepticon cried out a profanity. It was only when Starscream looked in the direction of Astrontrain's raised weapon that he saw what had transpired and the Seeker only had a small amount of time to dodge. Fortunatly Starscream's superiour agility allowed him to get out of the way with only a nick to his shoulder armour. Still, the fact that he had been taken so unawares brought a frown to his face and he regained his compsure and faced down the golden Autobot he identified as Sunstreaker.

"Looks like another Autobot stooge thinks he has the audacity to challenge me!" Starscream bellowed towards his opponent. "Seems you are eager to die this cycle Sunbeaker!" The Seeker suppressed a smile as he intentionally mispronounced the Autobot's name, trying to dig at his overdeveloped sense of vanity.

As he goaded his foe Starscream raised both his arm cannons and opened fire with a rapid fire of laser weaponry raining a hellish barrage down on Sunstreaker's exposed position. He hoped to keep the Autobot pinned down under a hail of fire so he couldn't move.

"Astrotrain, once I pin this Autobot whelp in place flank him and cut out his transistors! Show him what it means to have Decepticons as his enemies." A cruel grin spread on his face. >>"Skywarp, Thundercracker. The Autobots have attacked us on the rig. I want you to encircle the rig with your teams and then close in like a nose and cut them off, and cut them down!"

Nightraven had moved around the platform and was eliminating some of the final stragglers trying to make an escape when the Autobots materialized. She quickly came about and opened fire on the tight group. She did not wait to see if her shots hit anyone, instead she transformed and landed on the rig and took cover.

She carefully peered over the cover and noticed Smokescreen in the fray. She quickly took aim with her laser cannons and fired a full barrage at the diversionary tactician.

Oil Platform

Hound looked around as he materialised, sensors out to sniff out any hidden decepticons waiting in ambush. It was pointless: the oil rig was already aflame, most of the habitable sections in ruin, and the Decepticons were boldly circling the burning ruin like the 'vultures' he'd seen in Earth's desert. We don't need scouts here, there's nothing hidden or subtle. This is going to be out in the open, and messy.

Hound set his anti-air launcher and loaded one of his few missiles, as Prowl gave him orders to distract the Decepticons with holograms. "Right away Commander!" The point about stealth planes was a good one: More than one previous attempt to fool the 'Cons this way had backfired because the opponents had trusted their radars over their optics. Unfortunately, the humans kept a tight lid on their secret weapons like the F117, and Hound hadn't seen one in person except from many miles below as it flew to base. He began leafing mentally through his image archives, trying to piece together a proper image of one from mazagine images and toy store replicas, one convincing enough to panic the naturally sceptical Decepticons.

This was quickly interrupted by Firebat sweeping along the deck cackling maniacally, spewing white-hot flames at the Autobot. The blasted tower might have given him cover from laser fire, but Hound quickly saw that it would do no good against the seeker's flames. Hound dived from cover as the flames licked his chassis, scorching his paintwork and causing his spare tire and the safety fuses on his Infrared sensors to pop. He rolled to a stop, raised his missile launcher, and locked on with his electromagnetic sensors, sending a precious missile at the fire-spewing Seeker.

I need to get back into cover to start the hologram...but the Decepticons have done such a job on this rig, I'm not sure there is any.

On the Oil Rig

Smokescreen appeared on the human oil platform alongside his Autobot comrades and immediately found himself in the middle of a raging firefight. The Decepticons wasted no time in attacking them once the orbital bounce was completed. The rig had obviously been under siege for some time, baring the vicious scars of missile strikes and laser blasts. Smokey quickly readied his shoulder-mounted rocket launchers, which slid into place with ease.

At the same time, Smokescreen drew his rifle to bare and took aim at Astrotrain, who was firing at the Autobots and heading for cover at the same time. Smokey knew that the triplechanger would be the likely transport for the fuel that the Decepticons planned on stealing from the rig. If he could do some damage to Astrotrain, then maybe the ‘cons wouldn’t be able to get away with as much fuel, if any at all.

Smokescreen opened fire, hoping to hit his mark before Astrotrain made it out of harm’s way. However, the diversion expert had other problems to worry about as he came under fire from Nightraven, a femme seeker who had just landed and taken cover nearby. Smokey took a few hits in the back, which knocked him forward. He caught himself, though, and quickly sought cover behind a large support beam. Several more laser blasts erupted around him and also struck the beam in a flash of hot light that irritated his optics, but only for a moment. Smokey then checked his weapon and returned fire on Nightraven, hoping to flush her out of her hiding place so that he could take her out for good.

Above the Oil Rig

As Skywarp bombarded the oil platform with more laser fire, he witnessed the arrival of the Autobot team via orbital bounce. Ahh, finally a real fight! No more messing around with pathetic flesh sacks! ‘Warp thought as Starscream then issued a new round of orders to him and Thundercracker. >>Understood, Starscream.<< Skywarp responded to the seeker commander before then opening a new comm link to his squadron:

>>Seekers, encircle the rig and concentrate your fire on the Autobots! Show them no mercy!<<

Skywarp then repositioned himself and unleashed a hail of laser fire down on the Autobot team below, hoping to do as much damage as possible. At first he didn’t aim for any particular Autobot, but after a second pass ‘Warp spotted Bumblebee. The minibot wasn’t much of a fighter, but his small size would make for good target practice nevertheless. Better than those stupid training drones, Skywarp thought as he locked on to Bumblebee and fired a single missile directly at him.

Thundercracker's sensors managed to pick up the anti-proton buildup from an incoming orbital bounce but he, nor his wingmates Amethyst and Cobalt whom had just passed by the oil rig were not in a position to be able to cut back towards it in time to catch the Autobot assault group at their weakest.

Still, Thundercracker had already ordered his squadron to turn around when Starscream's orders came in. Thundercracker led his group back towards the oil rig, encircling it with Skywarp's squadron that had got there before his. With rig already in fire and way too damaged for Thundercracker's tastes considering the goal of their mission, they had to forget firing missiles towards the platform if they were to get any of the oil with them back to Megatron. Not to mention that by the looks of it, Firebat would soon destroy the rig with his flamethrowers.

All of the Autobots he could spot had already been tagged by various Decepticons which made attacking them extremely difficult without rather big chance of friendly fire occuring. >>"Thundercracker to Starscream. We can't engage from long range without good chance of friendly fire or even the destruction of the rig. Should we engage in melee or go for the oil tanks while you keep the Autobots busy?"<<

Oil Rig

Astrotrain was able to dive behind some scaffolding surrounding the drill as the various Autobots opened fire or moved to attack some of the Decepticons. It wasn’t exactly solid cover, but in the confusion of battle it was enough for the moment.

The triplechanger peered out from around it and saw chaos quickly engulfing the oil rig as Autobot and Decepticon began breaking into pairs or small groups to fight each other. He glanced around and looked for a target of opportunity. He believed he spotted one when Prowl turned to attack Darkride. He opened fire on the Autobot from behind his cover.

It was then that he heard the orders from Starscream. Astrotrain couldn’t help but smile. This was going better than he had hoped. Now he was on the frontlines helping out Starscream. It was much slagging better than hauling a bunch of primitive flammable fuel, which is all he really expected he would be doing. He nodded at Starscream and began creeping around his makeshift cover, ready to pounce on the Autobot when the time was right.

*

Hellion dodged the wild blast from Ironhide as he dodged and whipped around to counterattack. As the Autobot opened fire on the ground around them she simply launched into the air, hovering over the ground and easily avoiding the holes and his fire. She snickered as he turned tail and ran, jumping down onto a lower platform. She was less than impressed by his actions. She had heard he was a combat veteran, but it certainly wasn’t showing through so far. She would just have to finish him off quickly and move on to someone else unless he had some tricks up his sleeve. If he did, then all the better. All she was looking for was a good fight after all.

“And here I thought you were supposed to be one of the tough ones Ironhide. Instead you’re just a cowardly fool.” She launched off of the platform, flying down towards Ironhide in her robot mode, her machine guns blasting away as she prepared to crash into the relatively unprepared Autobot who was only just now turning to face her once again.

Oil Rig

Bumblebee had not expected the situation to be that good when he arrived on the human oil rig, but what the yellow minibot saw before he was not what he had been prepared for. The Decepticons had hit this undefended facility with all the ferocity and power that would be required to take out a heavilly fortified and defended fortress, and the out come was what you would expect. The smaller Autobot had come here with the intention of helping out any human survivors he could, but now Bumblebee doubted there were any humans left to save. Already the rig had been blasted and torn apart with heavy weapons fire, fires burned everywhere and were spreading inside. It also appeared that the Decepticons had destroyed all means of escape, meaning that the humans still alive, if any, had to choose between dying by fire or drowning.

Suddenly finding himself in a war zone Bumblebee dove for cover, producing his pistol. Already the larger Autobots were moving to engage the Decepticons. The minibot wasn't sure what good he would be now, but he was certain to do his best. He raised his weapon at the nearest Decepticon and fired.

Oil Rig

Nightraven moved back behind her cover as Smokescreen opened fire on her location. She decided that if she were to have an impact on getting rid of this nuisance then she would have to take to the skies. She quickly turned tail away form the cover and took to the air. While she rose up using her thrusters she took aim and opened fire at the diversionary expert before she transformed to her F-15 mode and took off. She quickly initiated her stealth ability. With the special coating on her fuselage she became totally invisible to optics and sensors.

She came about and took aim at Smokescreen from above and opened fire with her laser cannons. She was sure she would catch him by surprise.

*********

Darkride had been busy trying to get the hoses into place in order to begin removing the oil from the rig’s storage containers. He had just gotten them into position when Prowl opened fire on him. He was taken by surprise when he was hit in the shoulder by an acid pellet. “Agh!” His arm jerked form the force and he fell forward to the ground. Thankfully the wound was superficial. Anger welled deep within the interrogator as he quickly got to his feet. He turned around to see exactly who had shot him and saw Prowl heading in his direction, that was until Astrotrain took aim at the Autobot second giving Darkride time to take notice of Bumblebee.

He knew the minibot was one of Prime’s go to mechs on secret missions and that he also was privileged to secure information. Such a delicious opportunity should not be overlooked. An evil grin grew on Darkride’s face as he focused on Bumblebee. His attention was moved to a missile that was fired by Skywarp directly at his target. “No!” He growled out. In an instant the interrogator reared up on the unsuspecting spy and tackled him to the ground out of the line of fire from the missile.

Platform

Prowl continued his attack on Darkride until the supressor firepower from Astrotrain rained down on him. Prowl ducked out of the way and turned his attention on the triplechanger as he passed, returning the barrage with two missiles and a series of counter-shots before turning his attention back to the rig. Darkride had turned his attention to Bumblebee. Smokescreen was under fire from above, Sunstreaker was under fire from Starscream, Hound was also under attack as was Sideswipe. This was looking brutal. He needed a plan to get things rolling in their favor. And he knew what the first thing to do was.

"Ironhide!" he yelled. He activated his laser targeter and pointed it at Starscream's back, looking at Ironhide, then to Starscream, and then back to Ironhide to communicate what he wants him to do.

He fired his lasers repeatedly at Helion. to try and drive away the Decepticon seeker from Ironhide. If he could give Ironhide a chance to get at Starscream and give Sunstreaker a hand, it'd be a start. He couldn't ignore Bumblebee though. While Sidesiwpe was his best choice, he needed him in the skies. He had to coodinate his strategy to the others and provide coverfire. Somoene needed to save Bumblebee.

"Hound!" he yelled to the scout as he switched his laser targeter to Darkride. "There's your target! Assist! I'll cover you in a second!"

Sideswipe smiled as soon as Blackstar transformed. He really didn’t have any intention of engaging the seeker in any sort of aerial combat. He’d learned the hard way that even with his jetpack it wasn’t good idea to battle one of the seekers in his own element. The Autobot warrior only wanted to get the Con out of his element, even if it was just for a second, to make him an easier target.

The red Autobot deactivated his jetpack when Blackstar turned to fire. Sideswipe went plummeting to the deck, the lasers flashing over his head as he fell, but with another quick burst from his jetpack he cushioned his fall. He landed in a roll, coming up on one knee and leveling his photon rifle at Blackstar. “Surprise flyboy,” he muttered as he pulled the trigger.

*

On the Platform

Firebat grunted and staggered back as he came under fire from both Prowl and Hound. Acid pellets tore into his armor and the explosions of the missiles knocked him backwards. Still he remained on his feet, but he was having second thoughts about his attack strategy. Perhaps he should have waited until some of the others had landed so he wasn’t the sole focus of all of their fire.

No! The flames would accept no less than his best effort for the sacrifice. What was a little damage in the face of a great sacrifice to the flames?

“No, you won’t stop me Autobots! The flames are on my side and soon you will feel their power!” Firebat opened fire with both of his flamethrowers again, aiming for Hound again.

*

Sunstreaker glared at Starscream as he both dodged his attacks and hurled some insults at him. He would just have to make sure that the shrieking little seeker would die in some particularly painful way to make up for it all. Of course, that was pretty much the plan anyway.

As Starscream replied with a barrage of fire Sunstreaker transformed and floored it into reverse. He took a couple of hits, his armor absorbing the damage but he avoided the worst of it. Of course now he had taken damage to his perfect form, a fact that only angered him more. After backing up a few yards he shifted gears. His tires shrieked and smoked as he rapidly shifted from reverse back to forward.

The Autobot warrior knew the Seeker commander was a coward in his spark and he knew he could take him in hand to hand combat. All of those Decepticon fliers were the same, all talk and fancy flying, but punch them in the face once and they went back crying to Megatron. He would show everyone that Starscream was the same as the rest, and show both sides that he was THE warrior to be reckoned with. He launched forward, racing towards Starscream, transforming at the last minute to lunge at the seeker, ready to tackle him to the ground and commence beating on him.

On the Platform

Hound backed off hurriedly as Firebat continued to send waves of flames at him. The Seeker had taken a pounding from him and Prowl, but the maniacal Deecpeticon was still standing, and still screaming as he poured flame onto the platform. Floor-plates melted under the heat, pipes burst, and patches of oil began to add to the flames.

This crazy 'Con is going to ignite the whole platform if no-one stops him!, though Hound as he dived behind a utility shed, temporary cover at best. And I think he's too far gone to even notice Prowl's F22s. Think Hound, there must be something you can conjure up to make him stop.

This line of thought was interrupted by Prowl's barked command, and the plight of Bumblebee. Hound definitely couldn't leave his fellow scout at the mercy of that viscious-looking Seeker. Time for something more gutsy...

Striding out of the shimmering flames, Hound rushed towards Darkride, with 'Red Alert' and 'Inferno' at either side, the trio of one bearing down on the Seeker, hoping that 'they' wouldn't be followed by Firebat.

"Hang on Bumblebee, we're coming!" Wish I could have the images speak too, but I can never get myself to sound like any of the others.

Blackstar was caught by surprise at Sideswipe's maneuver and it singes his right wing, marring the gold stripe running along the edge. Blackstar was clearly over-estimating his opponents capability, but not his guile.

"Is that the best you can do, pathetic Autobot?" Blackstar mockingly asks of Sideswipe, "How are ya with a faster target?"

Rather than stand toe to toe on the blazing oil rig, Blackstar keeps his distance, relying on his marksmanship and speed. Raising into the air and leveling his rifles, Blackstar takes a tactical glance at the burning platform beneath, planning ahead. Concentrating both his rifle beams into a powerful shot at the red Autobot, Blackstar keeps a look of iron determination on his face.

On the Oil Rig

Smokescreen peered out from behind his cover to see Nightraven rising up into the air. His plan to flush her out of hiding had worked, but perhaps it had worked too well. While still in robot mode, the femme seeker opened fire on Smokey’s position, causing him to dart back behind the large steel girder. The diversion expert was about to return fire when he witnessed Nightraven transform to jet mode and then disappear from sight, having activated her stealth capability. Smokey stepped out from behind the large steel girder and scratched his cranial unit.

Where’d she go? I thought only Skywarp could teleport, Smokescreen thought as a new barrage of laser fire suddenly came down upon the red and blue mech from seemingly nowhere. Explosions erupted around him, taking him by surprise. He leapt back for cover, taking several hits as he once again dived behind the steel pillar. His armored plating had held up well against the laser strikes. Leaning his back against the girder, Smokey heard the roar of a jet engine fly by overhead, but still he saw nothing. He activated his sensor array and still came up empty. The sky directly above was clear.

She must have some sort of stealth ability, the diversion expert correctly surmised. But how do I fight back against an enemy I can’t see? Smokescreen considered this a moment before realizing that the only way to engage Nightraven was to force her to become visible again. Of course! And I got the perfect way to do just that!

Smokescreen targeted the empty sky in front of him with his shoulder-mounted rocket launchers. Nightraven was there somewhere. He was certain of it. Based on the sound of her invisible jet engines he had heard before, this was the only direction she could come at him from. Smokey then unleashed a single missile and watched as it streaked into the sky. He wasn’t actually aiming for anything in particular. He knew the femme seeker would just dodge it with ease. Instead, Smokey just needed the missile to reach the proper altitude.

Once his rocket had done so, Smokey sent a self-destruct signal to the warhead and watched as it exploded into a thousand metallic shards. Each one began emitting an array of magnetic fields and radio signals that would disrupt the guidance systems of any enemy aircraft in the vicinity. Many of the seekers flying about close enough would likely be affected, but Smokescreen only cared about one and that was Nightraven! Hopefully, his rocket’s assorted waves and signals would be enough to bring her down or at least force her out of stealth mode.

Above the Oil Rig

Skywarp watched from above as his missile missed its intended target of Bumblebee and instead slammed into the oil rig, causing even more damage to an already fragile structure. >>Slaggit, Darkride!<< Skywarp bellowed through his comm link as he flew overhead. >>The minibot was mine!<<

The teleporter couldn’t understand why the interrogator would save an Autobot, especially one as insignificant and weak as Bumblebee. Perhaps Darkride simply wanted to torture the minibot for his own personal pleasure. Skywarp, on the other hand, preferred a more direct and quick method of dealing with the enemy. Torturing took too long and was quite often a messy endeavour. Simply eradicate the enemy and be done with it.

As Skywarp came about for another pass, a surface-to-air missile exploded nearby. Fired by the diversionary tactician, Smokescreen, the rocket had not hit anything. Stupid Autobot! What was he shooting at any... ‘Warp’s train of thought was interrupted as his onboard guidance system began to fluctuate erratically. He soon found it difficult to maintain his current trajectory and quickly began losing altitude. His sensors had become inundated with various radio waves and magnetic signals, wrecking havoc on his systems.

Losing all control, Skywarp splashed down into the gulf and immediately transformed to robot mode. “Ahhh, frag it! This salt water’s gonna corrode my circuitry!” Treading water, Skywarp looked back towards the oil platform. He opened a comm link to the other seekers:

>>To all seekers that are airborne. Avoid the east side of the platform. There are radio waves and signals in the air that will disrupt your guidance systems. Be very careful!<<

Letting out a sigh, Skywarp then teleported to the edge of the oil rig and began climbing towards the battle above.

Ironhide hit the deck as a barrage of lasers slammed into his back, but he saw Prowl's signal. He took aim at Starscream.

"Yer goin' down, Seeker!"

Ironhide fired repeatedly. Then, he whirled around to reengage his other assailer. The female Decepticon was under fire from Prowl. Ironhide took the opportunity to fire at a large chunk of railing, which began to fall on the female Seeker's head. He quickly ran in the other direction. Aw, yeah. This was getting fun.

"Prowl, I'm on him!" he called.

He aimed at Starscream again. If the stupid Seeker would just hold still, he could get off a decent shot. But it wasn't just Starscream. Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Thundercracker, Bumblebee, and others kept getting in the way. TARGET LOCKED, said his targeting computer.
