Polyhex - The Hexagon: Shockwave's Tower

Homeworld of the Transformers. Drained and ravaged by thousands of vorns of civil war, Cybertron is a mere barren husk of once beautiful and thriving cybernetic world. While recovered enough to allow Transformers to move on its surface once again, it is still plagued by ion storms and any Transformer unfortunate enough to venture there without energon supply of their own is certain to face a stasis lock.

Starship Launching Silo A-2 - Thanatos Cargo Hold

Razorclaw guided the three drones into the cargo bay and led them to the far end of the chamber. The Predacon Commander then directed them to secure the cyberforming interface onto a large pad that was slightly elevated from the rest of the floor. It was meant for very special cargo that needed protection much like the device in question. Once the interface was strapped down tight, the drones moved away, allowing Razorclaw to step onto the pad and double check their work. After he was satisfied that the job had been done properly, Razorclaw moved off the pad and accessed a wall-mounted control console nearby.

The first order of business was to activate the pad's security system that would protect the cyberforming tech from anyone who would try to steal or tamper with it in any way. The Predacon Commander punched in a few keys, triggering a virtually impenetrable force shield that emanated from the base of the pad and quickly surrounded the device. Once in place, Razorclaw entered a special access code that would be required in order to deactivate the shield. Without it, any mech that tried to step onto the security pad would be in for the shock of their lives.

All that was left now was to deactivate the three drones. Razorclaw focused on the console again and tapped in a new set of commands that opened a hatchway in a nearby wall. The drones then disappeared into the opening before the hatch slid shut once more. There the automations would stay until such time that their services would be needed again.

Once all was done and secured, Razorclaw switched off the control console and made his way out of the cargo hold, knowing that the cyberforming interface would be safe from any unauthorized guests.

Having disembarked the Thanatos moments before, Divebomb now sat perched on the top edge of the silo in his eagle mode, scanning the surrounding sectors with his enhanced optical sensors. He soon spotted the Combaticons on the outskirts of the tower as they made their way towards the silo. They were a good distance away that any ordinary mech would be unable to see clearly. That was not a problem for the flying Predacon, however, as his telescopic lenses enabled him to see the five mechs as if they were standing right in front of him.

The mechanical eagle also saw one other thing that greatly peeked his interest. A drum with a Maccadam's logo printed right on the side. Hmmm, seems our Combaticon brothers found themselves some leftover oil from Maccadam's. How interesting, Divebomb thought as he watched Swindle fill two bottles with what remained after the rest had their share. Knowing the arms dealer, he'd probably try and sell the bottles for a hefty price. He certainly wasn't going to offer them up freely, that's for sure.

Divebomb considered telling the other Predacons about the Maccadam's discovery, but quickly decided against it. He'd rather make his own deal with Swindle and keep the oil for himself instead of sharing the spoils with his intolerable comrades. Perhaps Swindle will make me a good deal. What can I offer him, though? Extra energon? Intel? I don't have much, but surely there's something he's interested in that I can get for him.

As the Combaticons drew closer, the mechanical eagle leapt down from the top edge to avoid being seen and descended into the launching silo. Once he reached the bottom, Divebomb transformed back to robot mode and landed gently on the ground near the rest of the gathered Predacons. As he did so, Razorclaw appeared from the warship and walked over to his team. Divebomb saluted and then spoke, "Commander, the Combaticons are approaching from the outskirts of the tower. They should be here shortly."

"Good, Divebomb," Razorclaw responded. "The cyberforming device is secured on board the Thanatos. Our job now is to protect the tower and the interface until either Thunderwing or Shockwave return from their travels."

The Tower - Outskirts

Blast-Off drank down his second helping of Maccadam's oil and then wiped the excess off his mouth again. His face shield slid back into position as he then threw away the make-shift cup he had used to hold the delicious black fluid. He ignored Swindle's responsive rant and foul language. Seems I hit a nerve receptor, the space warrior thought with a chuckle. He then listened as Onslaught gave the arms dealer the okay to take what was left and do with it as he wished. At this, Blast-Off could not ignore.

"Be sure to keep that stuff close, Swindle," Blast-Off warned. "You wouldn't want the Predacons to find out you have Maccadam's oil in your possession. They may take it from you." The space warrior then turned his attention back to Onslaught as the Combaticon Leader issued new orders, having received a transmission from Razorclaw. The Predacons had returned from their mission and were waiting for them in Starship Launching Silo A-2. "Speaking of whom," the space warrior remarked as he followed Onslaught towards the silo.

The Hexagon—Silo A-2

Rampage had continued to look around since their re-arrival within the borders of Polyhex. Like the rest of Cybertron, it carried the familiar stench of deactivation and inactivity, but not as much. It was obvious that the Combaticons had not spent their time here idly. They had established some positions and outposts that would make the territory as a whole, and the Hexagon area in specific, easier to defend against any future Autobot incursions.

Rampage was sure that’s what the soldier types were thinking, anyway. He wasn’t so sure. With the planet as energy-starved as it was, what hope did either side have if they relied on encampments and other external devices to defend their gains? Rampage would be just as content using his hands. Or a blade. Neither required energon cubes to get the job done. Just strength.

“There’s the good little soldiers,” Rampage said, having arrived and patiently waited for the incoming Combaticons. Patience was not Rampage’s strong suit, but he had learned a great deal about that trait serving alongside the likes of Razorclaw. If any among the Decepticon ranks could be said to have skill in that department, it would be him.

“Might actually be able to make this rustpile in to something defensible.”
___

“Oh, we have,” Onslaught replied, having overheard the Predacon’s most recent statement as he and his team approached. “I would hate to think that our efforts here have been for naught.”

The Combaticon Commander was certain that they wouldn’t be. Even if the great minds like Shockwave and Thunderwing cared little for the grunt work that they had carried out, Onslaught had taken steps to make sure that the work they had done would sustain itself over the long-term. Once they had the energy to sustain it, Polyhex could be raised in to the great city-state it had once been, and the Decepticons could turn their attention to other similarly valuable territories. Those goals, however, were many steps away from where the Combaticons currently found themselves in the grand scheme of things. Onslaught had a vision, unquestionably, he just hoped that it was not too far off from whatever vision his commanders—and ultimately Megatron—had in mind. Only time would tell.

“Razorclaw,” Onslaught said quietly, nodding and greeting the other Decepticon unit leader as he approached the Thanatos. It was a far superior vessel to the Obliteration. It would be a pleasure to have its superior resources at their disposal as well. “I trust that your trek to Kaon with Commander Shockwave has been productive? What new orders does my unit have?”

Onslaught was admittedly curious as to what their next assignment would be, but more importantly right now were any insights Razorclaw might have gained during his time with Shockwave and their larger purpose for being here.

The Hexagon – Silo A-2

Razorclaw turned his attention to the arriving Combaticons as the group entered the silo and approached the Thanatos. The Predacon Commander focused his attention on Onslaught as the two unit leaders regarded one another with a nod. “I can assure you that your team’s efforts were not for nothing, Commander,” Razorclaw responded before offering a strong handshake. “In fact, as we returned to Polyhex, I detected that the sensor network and defensive systems were operating at full capacity. I even needed to send an identification signal to ensure that we weren’t fired upon by our own autocannons. I was very pleased to see that Polyhex is once again protected, or at least as much as it can be under the present circumstances. Excellent work from your unit, as always.”

Razorclaw then listened as Onslaught inquired about the Predacons’ mission to Kaon as well as further orders. Razorclaw paused a moment, considering his response carefully. He trusted the Combaticon Commander, far more than he did either Shockwave or Thunderwing. And while additional orders would be forthcoming, there was something more important on Razorclaw's mind at the moment. Perhaps it was time to share his concerns with another trustworthy Decepticon and hopefully win additional support if it was eventually necessary to take action against the cycloptic mech.

“Our trip to Kolkular was as productive as it could be,” Razorclaw began, keeping his optics focused on Onslaught. “We were able to restore power to a small portion of the fortress city, but the majority of it is in severe disarray, worse than it is here, I’m afraid. However, we were able to recover a cyberforming interface that Shockwave claims is the key to restoring Cybertron. My Predacons and I have brought the device back with us and secured it in the cargo hold of the Thanatos. It is protected by a force shield, which can only be deactivated with a special code that only I currently possess.”

Razorclaw then leaned in closer to Onslaught, placing a hand on the other Commander’s arm and gesturing him to move away from the rest of their respective groups. The Predacon leader wanted to speak privately with Onslaught and didn’t intend for others to overhear his words. “Commander, I must admit that I have some concerns regarding Shockwave,” Razorclaw whispered as he put distance between himself and the Thanatos. “Before I left Kaon, he mentioned that he was going to travel to Iacon, but he did not reveal for what purpose. There are only Autobots in Iacon, so I don’t understand the reasoning behind this course of action. I did not question Shockwave further, but I’m beginning to regret that decision now.”

Razorclaw paused a moment and glanced back at his and Onslaught’s units before returning his gaze to the Combaticon Commander. “I don’t trust Shockwave. He says he’s here to restore Cybertron and the recovery of the interface seems to back up his claims, if the device even functions as intended. But, he was missing for so many vorns with no explanation before being discovered on Earth that one has to wonder what he true motives are. His strict sense of logic has always confounded me, but I’m not comfortable with him going to Iacon where he could potentially collaborate with the Autobots. He may view it as a logical course of action, but I know for a fact that Megatron would consider it treasonous, as would I.”

Razorclaw thought for a moment before continuing. “Thunderwing and his team should be returning soon. I don’t expect to have his support, being a fellow scientist and what not. However, Blackwind is with them and has no love for Shockwave that much is certain. But she does seem enamored with Thunderwing at the current time, and that might complicate things a bit. Ultimately, I believe she will choose the correct side as she is fiercely loyal to Megatron.”

The Predacon Commander then placed a hand on Onslaught’s shoulder. “Depending on what happens in the coming cycles, I may have to take drastic action against Shockwave. He’s very powerful, so I will need yours and your team’s full support if he does act in a way that is against the wishes of Lord Megatron. Can I count on your help if that happens, Commander?”

The Tower – Outskirts

Vortex observed his teammmates with much amusement, though his elated aspect was concealed by his visor and mouthplate. Not that it was of any concern, as the dark grey Decepticon frequently employed the use of his vocaliser to convey whatever thoughts or feelings swirled around in his cranial unit. Almost always without the intrusion of restrictions. Vortex had discerned his...colourful remarks imposed a profound effect on those he conversed with. Even his fellow Combaticons were inadvertent prey to his rambling afflictions.

But he did try to supervise his unattractive habit. When he remembered, anyway.

Vortex waved a digit at Swindle as he approached the yellow Combaticon with deliberate movement. “Yeah, Blast's spot on, Swindle. Tantrum just might wanna store what you have in one of those fuel tanks of his. Or maybe Rampage'll strong-arm it from ya. Either way you look at it, there won't be much of a profit to be made with two empty sample bottles.”

With a grating cackle, Vortex gently slapped Swindle on the shoulder and proceeded to – much to his irritation, no doubt – accompany Blast Off to the silo.

Onslaught was not one to take conversation matters lightly. Even when a typical rank-and-file Decepticon requested his attention, he usually gave it in full. That was even more true when it was an individual whom Onslaught considered to be a peer. But given the subject matter Razorclaw was now bringing to his attention, nothing short of a direct Autobot assault right now would have any chance of pulling it away.

What’s more, Onslaught decided that given the weighty subject matter, he would move their conversation even further away. There would be a time for both the Predacons and Combaticons to be made aware of what was discussed here, but that time was not now. Onslaught was exceedingly intrigued by what Razorclaw had told him. It certainly gave the Combaticon Commander more of an insight as to what all of them were really doing here.

“Interesting,” Onslaught began, saying nothing more right away while he allowed everything that Razorclaw had said to settle in his mind. “I can not say that I am surprised that the more scientific minds in our ranks have chosen to keep us largely in the dark regarding their plans. Even so, I couldn’t begin to venture a guess as to what business Commander Shockwave could have in Iacon.”

Onslaught looked around again, innate Decepticon paranoia ensuring that no one was within audible range of their conversation.

“The kind of actions you speak of do not come without considerable risk. I learned to respect your skills ages ago, watching you and the others fight alongside Megatron in the gladiator pits. But command politics is a different arena altogether. If you were to follow through with this, you would be injecting yourself in to that arena. You would become a target of not only Shockwave, but any other high command-level Decepticon as they all jockey to be seen as Megatron’s chief lieutenant, if not chief themselves. I have no qualms about intercepting treasonous activity, but...the risk is just too great to take such action based on simple suspicion. Shockwave is not Megatron’s ‘Military Operations Commander’ for nothing. After all, if you’re mistaken, and Shockwave is able to convince Megatron of why he’s doing whatever he’s doing—we’ll get the axe, not him.”

Onslaught grew silent for a moment. There were so few of their number on Cybertron that he hadn’t expected to hear anything like this. These were the sorts of discussions that were normally heard when all the Decepticons were together, and the conspiracy mill ran the gamut from one lieutenant to another as the various Decepticons jockeyed for a better and more powerful position. But Shockwave, in omitting the explanation of whatever his current activities were to his subordinates, had left himself open to such speculation.

“When it comes to treason, I will do what needs done, just as I know you will. But at this juncture, I can only advise caution. You need something more concrete before I can share such immense risk.”

Razorclaw listened closely as Onslaught spoke of the great risks in challenging Shockwave without the proper amount of evidence that he had done something wrong. Even Megatron would require concrete proof of treason and not just mere speculation. The Combaticon Commander made some valid points, especially when it came to command politics in general. Razorclaw was a warrior first and foremost, and a particularly violent one at that. It was what won him the position of Predacon Commander in the first place. Becoming a politician was not exactly something he inspired to be. He’d rather face the enemy on the battlefield then sit in some cushy chair observing the conflict from afar.

At the same time, however, Razorclaw also was not afraid of those other command-level Decepticons who would target him if he made a move against Shockwave. He was fully capable of defending himself and, with his loyal Predacons backing him, he was confident he would come out the victor in the end.

Onslaught was also correct in assessing Shockwave’s ability to convince Megatron that his course of action was a necessary one and thus not treasonous. The cycloptic mech had, after all, been able to sway the Decepticon leader into allowing him to return to Cybertron to continue his experiments, even after such a long absence. Without hard evidence it was highly likely that Megatron would side with Shockwave, which would leave both Onslaught and Razorclaw in a bad position. Solid proof of treason was required before any action against Shockwave could be taken.

“I understand your concerns, Commander,” Razorclaw replied to Onslaught with a respectful tone in his voice. “And I agree with your assessment of the situation. Definitive proof is needed before any action can be taken against the Military Operations Commander. Believe me when I tell you that I do not take any of this lightly. My primary concern is the betterment of the Decepticon Empire and of Cybertron not jockeying for more power within the political command structure. Megatron is completely aware of my loyalty to him and my battlefield capabilities as I am already one of his most trustworthy lieutenants. However, if I were to make too hasty a move without the proper evidence, then my current stature would be in jeopardy as would yours, my friend. Besides, my plan was to first make contact with Megatron on Earth and present him with clear evidence once I had gathered it. Then, with his permission, take whatever course of action was deemed necessary.”

Razorclaw then fell silent as he turned his head back towards their respectful units to ensure that none of them had tried to eavesdrop on their delicate conversation. Regarding Onslaught once more, the Predacon leader considered moving their discussion elsewhere. “Let’s continue our talk in the tower’s nerve center where we can further chat about how we should gather said evidence and determine what Shockwave’s true motives are, especially in Iacon, which is what concerns me the most.”

Razorclaw thought for a moment before continuing. “In the meantime, our squads require new tasks to keep them occupied. The CR chambers down in the repair bay require a lot of work. Two of them are functional, if only barely, while the others are still offline. We’re going to need them if the Autobots attempt another assault on the tower. Therefore, I’m going to send Divebomb down to help get the CR chambers fully operational. Perhaps Swindle could accompany him. He did an admirable job at repairing the autocannons, so I’m sure he’ll be able to handle this task, as well. Of course, whom you choose to send from your unit is your call, Commander."

Razorclaw then considered what else needed to be done as the condition of their idle warships quickly came to mind. “Furthermore, I want the Thanatos and Obliteration fueled up as much as possible and the weapons systems on both vessels fully armed and ready if the need to withdraw from Polyhex arises. My Predacons can take care of the Thanatos as I am sure your Combaticons can handle whatever maintenance is required on your ship. That will be all for now. Once I have issued orders to my team I will meet you up in the nerve center.”

Razorclaw then turned away from Onslaught and approached his unit. His gaze first fell on Divebomb, who stood patiently with the others. “Divebomb, you will go down to the tower’s medical facility and help get the remaining CR chambers online. We may need them in the coming cycles. One of the Combaticons will join you. Work together to get the job done, understood?”

“Completely, Commander,” Divebomb replied as he moved away from the other Predacons and headed towards the tower. At least the flying mech would not have to deal with his teammates for a few cycles, hopefully longer. In all honestly, Divebomb would rather be a member of the Combaticons as he found them much more tolerable then his own unit. However, a transfer was highly unlikely and such a request would probably lead to a fate similar to that which befell Howlstrike, if not worse.

As Divebomb continued onward towards the tower, Razorclaw’s gaze then fell on Rampage, Headstrong and Tantrum. “I want you three to recharge the fuel cells of the Thanatos as much as possible and then bring the weapons array online. Run a diagnostic to ensure all systems are operating at full capacity. The ship has sat idle for too long. I do not want any surprise malfunctions if we need to leave suddenly or require the use of the ship’s arsenal to help propel an Autobot attack. Is that understood?”

Headstrong and Tantrum nodded in unison and turned back towards the Thanatos to begin their assignment with Rampage’s help. It wasn’t exactly what they hoped they’d be doing, but at least it was better than just sitting around.

With his orders given, Razorclaw then made his way in the direction of the tower, giving a knowing glance at Onslaught before exiting the silo and heading for the nerve center where their discussion could continue unabated.

Tower Outskirts

Thanks for reminding me, Blast-Off. It's not like I'm used to carrying valuables or anything. Swindle sticks close to the rest of the group, however. Not for the first time, he wished he could trust some of others to act as bodyguards for him during his 'transactions', but trust was a commodity a hundred times rarer than any well-brewed oil.

Swindles annoyance at being lectured in the obvious was only hieghtened when Vortex repeated the same point, punctuated with a 'friendly' slap on the shoulder. He doesn't let this show of course, its par for the course. Far better than getting slapped by Brawl, anyway.

Silo A-12
"Don't worry, fellows, I'm certain I can handle this. Its not like I'm going to let the commander down, after all." Swindle responds jovially to the two as they enter the silo. Its then that he notices said commander being pulled aside by his counterpart in the Predacons. Swindle had a lot of respect for Razorclaw after the incident with the Aerialbot, but this turn was a little worrying to him. When commanders had something to say in private, it meant that he wasn't being given info that he might need to survive the next firefight.

When Razorclaw turns to give orders, Swindle frowns. Was it just maintenance work being discussed, or was there an ulterior motive at play here? The munitions specialist turns to Onslaught. "If you think I'm the best for the job, sir, I'll head down. Unless you think I'm needed for rearming the ships." I know Onslaughts smart enough to keep from losing control of this situation. He won't put me in a compromising position just for the hell of it.

It would not be the first or last time that Onslaught was told in confidence by another Decepticon that the actions they were planning were being taken for the benefit of the greater Decepticon ideal and not for their own personal advancement. Such statements normally made the Combaticon Commander wary. In Razorclaw’s case, though, Onslaught did not have the same reservations as he usually would. He had known the Predacon for a long time. He was not one scheme for the sake of pure advancement any more than Onslaught himself was. Moreover, the fact that he planned to go to Megatron with any concrete evidence he was able to gather before he took action eased Onslaught’s initial concerns.

“If what you suspect is true, then when the time comes, you will have my support. The betterment of the Decepticon cause will always have my support.”

He took Razorclaw’s suggestions for current orders and who could most effectively carry them out and nodded as the Predacon Commander continued on toward Shockwave’s tower. He would join him soon enough. Swindle was the first to approach, obviously having overheard Razorclaw's initial commands to his own subordinates.

“I think you’ve demonstrated that your skills extend beyond that of simple acquisition. I see no reason to cut that short. Functional cryostasis chambers would be the next reasonable priority. If you require additional assistance in bringing the remainder of them online, let me know,” Onslaught said, before turning his attention to the rest of the Combaticons. “It seems that Cybertron is not to be our permanent destination. Not yet, anyway. So let’s get the Obliteration prepped, inasmuch as our limited resources will allow. I will join the rest of you on board shortly.”

The Tower

Onslaught then turned and continued on the path back to the imposing Tower, looming prominently over the Polyhexian cityscape. They appeared to be approaching a strategic crossroads: cut and run with whatever technological or research prizes that Shockwave and Thunderwing had discovered during their own operations on the planet…or…stay and use those same discoveries to enhance the progress they had made on the planet already. Though Onslaught was steadily becoming more informed of what their real purpose was for being here, there were still too many unknown factors for him to be able to know which was the better course of action. If Shockwave was potentially scheming outside the scope of whatever authority Megatron had bestowed on the cycloptic mech, that would have to be accounted for as well. Shockwave, like a handful of other mechs, had held the arguably coveted position of Megatron’s second-in-command and possibly did so even now. High-command level politics were murky waters, and Onslaught had not been privy to the most recent political maneuvering that could have taken place while he and his unit had been assigned elsewhere. There were several Phase-Sixers and other trusted lieutenants in Megatron’s retinue who continually vied for the position of being the former gladiator’s most favored, if not the leader themselves. It was Starscream’s treachery that had gained the most notoriety over the ages, but Onslaught knew that there were others who harbored the same goals. They simply went about it more inconspicuously. To trifle with any of them idly was not a course of action that Onslaught would ever take unless, as Razorclaw indicated, their treason was clear.

As the door slid open, Onslaught once again found himself within the nerve center of Shockwave’s tower where Razorclaw was already waiting.

“So,” Onslaught began, sitting down at one of the command consoles and accessing the Tower’s operating systems, “if Shockwave has recovered functional mechaforming technology, the restoration of Cybertron can not be the only endgame at work here. That means Earth, at minimum, if not any number of other similar worlds. That would likely explain all of the encrypted files on Ore-13 that I saw before. But Iacon? There are multiple scenarios ahead of us where the Autobots have to be accounted for, but I’m not seeing one where I would willingly go to them.”

Onslaught’s right actuator moved from one holoscreen to another as he brought up an encrypted, command-level frequency. It would have been nice to have Soundwave present to ensure that the frequency had not been compromised in any way. Hopefully it would serve their purposes, if and when the time came.

“There…I don’t think there’s any more secure location on Cybertron for you to attempt a direct-link with Megatron, when the time is right," Onslaught said, before deactivating the frequency. Everything in the Tower, for the time being at least, appeared to be operational.

Just in time for them to prepare to depart this world altogether. How convenient.
___

The Hexagon—Silo A-2

Rampage frowned underneath his metallic faceplate but did nothing the voice his displeasure over their current course of action to his commander. Rampage had already been in the process of making plans to reacquire certain territory on Cybertron that he had once claimed as a warlord on Cybertron. If they had done this much with Polyhex in such a short span of time, what was to stop them from expanding more?

Bigger and better things, Rampage hoped. The Predacon wanted to start seeing some real results soon. He had been existing on sub-par energon and no other noticeable rewards of Decepticon conquest for too long now.

“So, the Thanatos could blow up mid-flight, eh? Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen. I have lots of killing still to do,” Rampage said as he headed over towards the entrance to the Decepticon battlecruiser.

The Nerve Center – Shockwave’s Tower

Razorclaw made his way through the tower’s corridors with ease before reaching the never center at the very heart of the structure. The doors parted, allowing the Predacon Commander to enter the empty room. He had arrived first, but Onslaught would soon follow once he had given his orders to the rest of the Combaticons. Razorclaw had the utmost faith in Onslaught’s abilities and loyalties, but the two Decepticons had to tread carefully when it came to dealing with Shockwave. One misstep and it could look very bad for the both of them in the optics of Lord Megatron. And that was the last thing Razorclaw wanted, especially for himself.

A breem passed before Onslaught joined him in the nerve center. Razorclaw regarded the Combaticon leader with a nod and watched as he sat at one of the command consoles. The Predacon leader listened as his comrade spoke of the mechaforming technology that had recently been recovered in Kaon and the greater endgame other than Cybertron’s rebirth. The mention of protected files on Ore-13 sparked Razorclaw’s interest as did the encrypted frequency on which to contact Megatron if or when it would become necessary to involve the Decepticon Leader. “Excellent. The frequency should suffice if I see the need to alert Megatron of Shockwave's activities. I hope it does not come to that, but we shall see what happens.”

Razorclaw moved closer to the holoscreens before continuing. “As for the Ore-13, it is the substance that Shockwave seeded Earth with many vorns ago. From what I understand, it was the whole reason for his disappearance. The Dinobots apparently had followed him and there was a confrontation, which lead to them all becoming trapped on Earth until their recent discovery. Ore-13 is some kind of new form of energon in a very raw state. Very potent, but also very promising. Without access to these encrypted files, I can only surmise as to its usefulness in regards to Cybertron’s restoration, but I’m sure it has some roll to play in the grand scheme of things. The ore could even be a potential power source for the cyberforming interface. Again, I’m only guessing at this point.”

Razorclaw then took a seat next to Onslaught at the command console. “My greater concern, however, is what Shockwave wants in Iacon. My fear is that he is willing to share sensitive information with the Autobots that could end up jeopardizing our entire mission here. He would see it as logical, I’m sure, but I see it as dangerous and unnecessary. We need to know what exactly he’s doing over there before contacting Megatron.”

The Predacon Commander turned in his seat to face Onslaught. “Our sensor network does not extend beyond Polyhex. Therefore, we need to send someone to Iacon on a recon mission to see what the cycloptic mech is up to. Blackwind would be the best choice due to her power of invisibility. However, if she would be unwilling or unable to perform the mission once she returns, we’ll need a suitable alternative we can entrust with such a sensitive matter. Do you have any suggestions, Commander?”

The Hexagon – Silo A-2

Blast-Off had entered the silo with the other Combaticons and watched as his commander conversed in private with Razorclaw. He had no idea as to what was being said and he was in no position to demand answers from his superior officer. If Onslaught wanted to inform him of what was being discussed then he would do so. Otherwise, it was better left to those in charge.

Once Onslaught had given the order to prep the Obliteration and the two commanders had departed the silo, Blast-Off walked by Swindle with a smile beneath his faceplate. “Good luck with Divebomb. At least I hear he’s not as violent as the other Preds.”

The space warrior then turned towards Vortex and Brawl. “Let’s go, guys. We got a ship to prep.” With that said, Blast-Off walked off in the direction of neighboring Starship Launching Silo B-1, where the Obliteration was currently docked.

The Tower – Medical Facility

Divebomb arrived alone in the med bay, having gotten a good head start on whichever Combaticon would be assisting him with the CR repairs. He wasn’t the buddy type and thus saw no reason to wait for his helper to catch up. He had a job to do, after all, and he intended to complete the task in a timely manner.

At the very least Divebomb wouldn’t have to deal with any of his Predacon teammates. It was a blessing in disguise for sure and one he would not take for granted. He didn’t really care which of the Combaticons he would be paired up with, expect maybe for Brawl as the ground assault specialist was more akin to the Predacons and their thuggish nature than to a thinking mech's soldier. Perhaps Divebomb would get lucky and receive help from Swindle. That would be a pleasant surprise if only to try and make a deal for some of that Macadam’s Oil he was secretly carrying.

Regardless, Divebomb needed to get to work. Having stopped by a storage room on the way to the med bay, the flying Pred had a few necessary tools to work with. He approached one of the deactivated CR chambers and knelt down beside it. He brushed off a good thick layer of dust from the side before locating an access panel, which he quickly unscrewed and removed. Divebomb then went to walk rewiring the main power cables and conduits in order to restore energon flow to the chamber’s primary systems.

The Hexagon – Silo A-2

Swindle salutes at Onslaught as the Combaticon commander turns to leave, then has to hide a sneer at Blast-Off offering 'advice'. Yeah, we both know you wouldn't care if I ended up in five seperate gutters. But I like you, Blast-Off. You help remind me what kind of joker-bot counts as an 'elite' of the Decepticon military. And how many steps I'm above even that. Without a word, Swindle heads off to do his job.

The Tower – Medical Facility

Swindle arrives to find Divebomb hard at work already. Hey, he knows which end of a power cable is which. I like this guy already. He tries to recall what he knew of the Predacon flier, but he was coming up blank. Something about him killing an Autobot flier and taking his name, or something like that. Either way, he didn't have as much of a reputation as a member of the Predacons, because you usually heard about whatever atrocity Headstrong or Tantrum had committed last. That meant he had self-control though. Always something work seeing.

"Hmm, most of the vital components look to be intact." Swindle reaches into a defunct chamber and begins tightening parts, and the devices slowly starts to boot up. "It's mainly just an overhaul we'll have to do, shouldn't take too long. Couple of them had been hit with surges and will need to be cannabalised, but we'll have more than enough to keep our pals online."

Swindle wasn't really looking to strike up conversation, but he always liked to make people think he did. Figuring out how irritable someone was for chatty mechs was always useful to know, so that when you were selling them something you knew how to pitch the transaction.

The Tower—Nerve Center

Onslaught sat quietly, absorbing everything Razorclaw had to say about what he knew of Ore-13 and the other activities that the Decepticons had been engaged in during their return to Cybertron. If it was indeed a raw form of energon, then there was obviously hope for Cybertron after all. What it would take to make such energy flourish was a question that was well beyond Onslaught’s scope of expertise, but the idea intrigued him nevertheless. It certainly offered hope that Cybertron’s current state of being did not have to be permanent.

Examining the screens in front of him, Onslaught noticed that new information was being transmitted to the Tower that had not been previously.

“It would seem that our sensory capabilities have extended somewhat. Whatever Shockwave did while you both were in Kaon has at least resulted in a substantial addition to our network, as opposed to the information I was receiving earlier. I’m getting a clear signal from Kolkular. However, it is true that we have no eyes, literal or figurative, in Iacon. At least not at present.”

Onslaught brought up a series of holovids, archived from the golden age of Cybertron, focusing on Iacon in particular.

“I’m not surprised that the Autobots would choose to hole up there. The Hub Capital has long been a symbolic representation of their way of life, just as much as Kaon has become a symbol of ours. The Autobase there was once the Decagon…a choice target, unquestionably, but logic would dictate that our Commander would employ reinforcements if his objective was some form of military strike. Conversely, one would think that has too much to lose if he were to be caught in some form of treasonous activity. Still, nothing’s outside the realm of possibility, given what little we currently know.”

The digits of Onslaught’s actuators tapped methodically in front of his faceplate while his optics scanned the various holovid playbacks—civilian Cybertronians going about their business in front of the Decagon. Energon freely changing hands in everyday transactions. Massive screens broadcasting the news of the orn for all to see as they traveled peacefully along the myriad of pristine roadways connecting the various city-states. How long had it been since anyone had been able to engage in such mundane activities? He then realized that he had drifted off in to idle strategizing for a moment and wandered away from the topic at hand. He brought his hands down and returned his attention to Razorclaw.

“I’ve no objections to Blackwind. Her background would easily make her the ideal choice. We need hard data about what’s going on in Iacon. If our Commander does not provide it, we’ll use other means. At the same time, we must begin thinking of what our next step will be. Are we to somehow use this cyberforming device to further the gains we have made here? Or, are we to take arms and run, be it to Earth or some other similarly soil-based planet and see what this technology can really do? Truthfully, with as sparse as the resources on Cybertron are, abandoning it for richer and more plunderable worlds seems to be the wisest course of action—but, if that is the next phase of Megatron’s great vision, I don’t see why we’ve been putting so much effort in to revitalizing our infrastructure here. Surely the Autobots will simply seize whatever we leave behind. Strategically, we are at an impasse. Regardless of the path we choose, we will gain something…and lose something else. Once Blackwind returns, that means Warlord Thunderwing will return as well. Perhaps he will have knowledge of our next step that was not made known to us. If not…contacting Megatron may be our only reasonable option.”

Contacting Megatron at this stage, even if it was just to obtain guidance and further orders, could be seen as jumping the chain-of-command. It was not ideal, but Onslaught was running out of viable options. If the strategy on Cybertron was going to work, the rank-and-file—and certainly the officers—could not be kept in the dark indefinitely in regards to what their ultimate objectives would be.

Skies Above Polyhex

Thunderwing soared over the city-state, Blackwind still in his arms, rapidly closing in on Shockwave’s trademark tower. If the tower’s scanners hadn’t picked him up yet, they soon would. Having no desire to start a confrontation with the Tower’s defenses, whether they be automated or otherwise. Last he had been informed Onslaught had been left in command with his team, so it would be him he addressed.

>>”Onslaught, this is Thunderwing. Our mission was successful and we are approaching the tower now. The samples will be delivered to Shockwave’s laboratory while I help tend some of the wounded in my lab. I will require a status report as soon as possible on your and, if possible, Shockwave’s status.”<<

With the message sent along with his command codes he swooped down low, unafraid of any automated defenses. He touched down on one of the lower landing pads and began to traverse down below the surface where his lab still laid. It was becoming an inconvenient location, but he believe he would need some of the more specialized equipment he kept down there to help Blackwind.

Thunderwing’s Laboratory

The towering form of Thunderwing maneuvered through the winding labyrinth that formed the underground tunnel system he called home while alone on Cybertron. As he drew closer to his destination Blackwind let out a soft, but pained filled moan, and began to move, if only slightly.

“Mmm. Wha….where…what happened?”

Slowly Blackwind on-lined her optics, but her vision was severely distorted due to the direct plasma energy her frame and systems took. The Seeker femme could feel that she was being carried and from the bulk of his frame could tell it was Thunderwing who was holding her.

She tried to focus on his face, but her optic sensors were unable to receive the mental command. With a defeated groan she gave up and finally off-lined then and placed her head back against his chest. Her entire body felt as though it was on fire, but she could overlook that uncomfortable sensation since she was more concerned about the pain that seemed to radiate to every seem of her frame.

Blackwind let out a soft whimper and trembled slightly as another shockwave of pain wracked her frame and systems. She clenched her teeth and desperately gripped the scientist’s shoulder in an attempt to alleviate her discomfort; unfortunately it was not helping.

“I…..I’m…..sorry….Thu…..Thunderwing. Fa….failed….y..you….and….cause.”

The direct transmission from Thunderwing had been a welcome surprise. Overall, there were situations that Onslaught could see that needed improved but there were substantially more that were proceeding to the Decepticons’ benefit. Given what Razorclaw had told him of Ore-13 and Shockwave’s retrieval of the cyberforming technology within Kolkular, Thunderwing’s success would be all the more valuable to their continued strategy.

“Understood, Lord Thunderwing,” Onslaught began, quickly assuming the tone and demeanor he typically presented when addressing a superior officer. “My team has successfully restored the automated defenses surrounding the Hexagon region of Polyhex. We have restored the sensor network within the immediate area and have expanded it to where we are receiving clear signals from Kaon as well. We are in the process of fully restoring the Tower’s CR chambers and prepping both the Thanatos and the Obliteration for departure, should it be so ordered.”

Onslaught paused. Having addressed their units’ successes, the Combaticon knew that he now had to move in to the more perplexing realm of Shockwave’s activities.

“I am to understand that Commander Shockwave met with success in retrieving the cyberforming technology contained within Kolkular, however he has not yet returned to Polyhex. At this point, I will defer to Razorclaw to finish bringing you suitably up to speed, as he was with the Commander last and we both have certain…’concerns’…with his current course of action.”

Razorclaw was pleased to hear from Onslaught that the sensory network had been extended all the way to Kaon. It would hopefully provide them with a bit more information as to whether Shockwave had already left the city of Kolkular and, if so, what direction he was heading in. The Predacon Commmander moved to a nearby holoscreen and punched in a few access codes that allowed him to view the data being transmitted from Kaon.

“It appears that Shockwave has already left Kolkular,” Razorclaw stated after studying the information feeds. “The senors in Kaon are no longer picking up his signature. As for where he went, that is still unknown. Although, if he does not arrive back here within a few breems, it would be safe to assume that he headed for Iacon.”

Razorclaw then listened as Onslaught continued to ponder Shockwave's motives in the Autobot Capital. “I'm sure it's not a military strike. He's there for something else, something he thinks will help him to restore Cybertron. I just hope he's not willing to share vital intel with the Autobots in order to get whatever it is he's looking for.”

The Predacon Commander continued to examine the sensor feeds from Kaon as Onslaught scanned holovid playbacks from the good old days before turning his attention back to Razorclaw. His concern about what their next step might be regarding the cyberforming tech was something the Predacon leader shared, as well. It would seem appropriate to continue the restoration of Cybertron, but the limited resources at their disposal made that extremely difficult even with the recovered technology. The one unknown factor was Shockwave and the reasoning behind going to Iacon.

Razorclaw turned to face Onslaught. “Well, we were initially sent here when it was learned that Cybertron had begun to heal itself and it was safe to move about on it's surface again. Once we had arrived our mission has been to facilitate the continued restoration of the planet. It has been a very slow going process to say the least, but I doubt the cyberforming interface is meant for any world besides our own. To my knowledge, Megatron has never said otherwise. Of course, whether the device can produce the desired results is yet to be seen.

“As for Lord Thunderwing, I will speak with him when he...” Razorclaw's sentence was cut short as Onslaught received a message from Thunderwing, himself. He had arrived back from his mission underground and wanted a status update from the Combaticon Commander. Once Onslaught was finished giving his report, he deferred the rest to Razorclaw, making mention of their 'concerns' regarding the cycloptic mech.

>>”Lord Thunderwing, this is Razorclaw. As Onslaught has stated, the mission to Kolkular was a success. The cyberforming interface was retrieved and transported back here without incident. It is now secured aboard the Thanatos utilizing special access codes that only I possess. As for Shockwave, he did not return to Polyhex with my unit and I. Instead, he conveyed to me his intent to travel to Iacon where the Autobots are currently stationed. He did not go into more detail as to his reasoning, and I did not press the matter further. However, Onslaught and I are concerned about what his motives are for going into enemy territory alone without any form of backup. Shockwave is clearly very powerful, but not powerful enough to fight all of the Autobots present in Iacon. Therefore, it is unlikely he is going there for a military attack. Instead, Shockwave may find it logical to share certain information with the Autobots to further his research into cyberforming. Of course, we simply don't know for certain and therein lies the problem.”<<

Razorclaw paused for a moment. He had made sure not to mention the word treason when speaking of Shockwave as Thunderwing would likely dismiss such claims outright without proper evidence. Instead, the Predacon Commander remained focused on what he did know without making any direct accusations against the purple mech. Of course, whether Thunderwing had any knowledge regarding Shockwave's motives or would be willing to share such information with anyone else was something still to be addressed.

>>”Lord Thunderwing, can you give us any insight as to what Shockwave would be seeking in Iacon? Furthermore, can you also provide us with the status of Blackwind? Has she returned with you?”<<

The Tower – Medical Facility

Divebomb heard the med bay door slide open and a mech step inside the room as the flier finished reconnecting the primary power cables within one of the CR chambers. Once the connections were restored, energon began to flow into the unit's circuits once more. Divebomb then moved to the control console and allowed his digits to dance across the keyboard. Within astroseconds, the machine hummed to life as lights turned on inside the chamber.

Once that was done, the flying Predacon turned to see who Onslaught had sent to assist him. Divebomb was pleasantly surprised to see that it was Swindle, the very mech he had hoped for. “Well, hello Swindle! What a nice surprise! My apologies for ignoring you when you first entered. As you could see, I was engrossed in brining this one CR chamber back online. And you're right. Most of these units just need an overhaul to get them running good as new. If need be, we can steal parts from those two at the far end of the room over there. The ones you said need to be cannibalized are too far gone, I'm afraid, but these others will do us just fine.”

Divebomb then made his way to another CR unit and began working on it. As he did, he decided to broach Swindle regarding the oil he had stowed away. “You know Swindle, when I was perched atop the launching silo earlier I could see you and your unit on the outskirts of the tower. I couldn't help but notice the container of Macaddam's Oil you guys had found.”

Divebomb looked over at the munitions expert with a slight grin on his face plate. “Don't be surprised. I've got enhanced telescopic optics that allow me to see over great distances. I could make out the Macaddam's markings as though I was standing right in front of them. I also saw that you took the last bit of oil and stored it away. I'm assuming you intend to sell it, am I right? Perhaps you and I could strike a deal for some of that delicious oil. I haven't had Macaddam's in many vorns and I must admit my taste sensors are salivating.” The flying Pred then turned to fully face the arms dealer. “So, what do you say, Swindle? Interested?”

Starship Launching Silo B-1 - The Obliteration

Blast-Off entered the neighboring silo where the Obliteration was currently docked. He entered the warship through the main entrance ramp and quickly made his way to the engineering section. Once he arrived at his destination, the space warrior accessed a control console and began running a diagnostic program on the ship's engines to ensure they were operating at optimal levels.

At the same time, he checked the ship's fuel cells and found that the levels were only at approximately twenty percent. “This won't do,” Blast-Off muttered to himself as he punched in a few more keys which extended the Obliteration's primary power cable located near the aft section of the ship. He then opened a comm line to Brawl and Vortex, who his assumed were still outside in the silo.

>>”Hey guys, if you're still outside, I've just deployed the ship's power cable. Hook it up to the nearest energon coupling so we can recharge the fuel cells. Okay?”<<

Blast-Off then cut his comm line and continued monitoring the diagnostic program. Between Brawl's brute strength and Vortex's strong skills, the two of them should be able to figure out how to connect the heavy power cable without much trouble. One could hope, anyway.

>>”Sure, whatever, Blast. Brawler and I will get right on to it.”<<

It wasn't exactly the entertainment that would alleviate his increasing boredom, but Vortex was quick to recognise the advantages it contained. Certain elements that would benefit him. Yes, indeed... And the answer, of course, stood close to the interrogator. The answer exhibited a bulky, powerful frame, cranking and rattling in response to even the slightest movement. It happened to be very rude, too. The answer was Brawl.

The dark grey Combaticon shifted his cranial unit in the direction of the green tank, his visor illuminating with a malevolence only summoned when his processor contrived ideas best suited to...delighting him. “You heard Blast Off, didn't ya, Brawl? Come on, then. Let's hook this thing up. I mean, it's not like there's anything else to do, anyway.”

While his comment supported the truth—for the most part—he couldn't confess his real reason behind it. Why, that would simply take all the fun out of it! Vortex couldn't have that—no, absolutely not. To manipulate Brawl through the practise of his vocaliser was a satisfying experience, to say the least. Restrictions did apply, however, as Brawl was a fellow Combaticon, but Vortex never pursued violence to accomplish any part in one of his little schemes. Not with any of the Combaticons.

Sometimes, Vortex just liked to get under the armour-plating of his teammates. It was all harmless fun. Most of the time, anyway.

Thunderwing’s Laboratory

Thunderwing silently listened to reports from both Onslaught and Razorclaw before arriving at his lab. He had been so absorbed in that that he was startled when Blackwind came back online and began talking.

He looked down at her. “A plasma bolt came out and struck you. You were damaged and forced into stasis lock.” A trace of a smile formed on his face. “The mission was successful; you have nothing to be sorry about. The samples are already being delivered to Shockwave’s lab as we speak. I am taking you into my personal lab now. I think some of the specialized equipment will help me conduct repairs on your better then the repair bay.” His smile turned to a frown as he saw her wracked by pain.

He carefully carried her into the lab and on to a repair bay. He gently set her down and disconnected her from his systems, quickly hooking her up to the lab’s power system to keep her active and functioning. The scientist grabbed an injector from a nearby table and pressed it against the fuel line leading from the table to the seeker. It contained a receptor dulling chemical that would lessen the pain she was feeling while keeping her functional. “Try to relax and not move around. If you can try to run a self diagnostic on your systems while I conduct my own scans.” The Decepticon walked over to a nearby terminal and activated the scanners in the repair bay.

As he waited for the scans to be complete he replied to Onslaught and Razorclaw. >>”Shockwave’s methods are startling, if not unorthodox. I would assume he has a plan for dealing with the Autobots in some fashion, and of securing his return to Decepticon territory. Still, his trust in the Autobots simply not attacking him on sight is surprising. Razorclaw, keep your team prepped and ready for a quick deployment should the commander need assistance in escaping from Iacon.”<<

Thunderwing typed in a series of commands into the terminal as he considered Shockwave’s actions and how to reply to his fellow Decepticons. >>”As for why he has traveled to Iacon specifically, I can only offer theories and conjecture. The Commander has not been forthcoming in his plans. I most likely have more technical information than you but he has not shared the specifics of his own plans with me.”<<

He tilted his head as he considered the question about Blackwind. It seemed Onslaught and Razorclaw had done no small amount of planning together. He was interested to hear what the two Decepticon officers had come up with, particularly considering their expertise and reputations. >>”Blackwind suffered critical damage on the mission, fortunately the only one to have been damaged to that degree. I am treating her in my personal lab as her damage may require some of the specialized equipment I keep down here. What is the nature of your inquiry into her status? If the two of you have come up with any sort of plans or strategies I would be interested in hearing them.”<<

The scientist looked up from his console. “How are you feeling Blackwind? Were you able to get anything back from your self diagnostic?

The bay doors opened with a hiss. Stepping aboard this familiar vessel filled Rampage with mixed emotions. It represented safety. Comfort. Power. The Predacon only truly appreciated the latter. The others made one soft and too vulnerable--allowing said power to be taken away. He had no intention of giving away anything that they had gained during their short time on this planet thus far, but what troubled him further is that he might not have any say in the matter. At least not without stirring another fire of internal conflict. The Decepticons usually had no shortage of that anyway.

He walked steadily towards the engineering section of the ship. He was no Constructicon, but he had learned enough of the ins and outs of what a good functioning sensor was supposed to look like that he could do his part to keep the ship from crashing and burning until it was able to be checked over by those with more advanced engineering skill than he.

Rampage stood next to one of the consoles and brought the ship's basic diagnostic systems online, his optics scanning for any reading that looked out of place with the others. As he did so, he began reviewing archived holovids that he had stored on the ship. Orns long ago, when the gladiator pits began to hold more sway with the masses than the politicians in the Cybertronian senate. That was real entertainment.

Blackwind stared up at Thunderwing as he explained what had occurred that out her in such a dire state. She did not respond to initial brief of the recent happenings, instead the Seeker femme tried to access her memory banks in order to recall the entire sequence of events on her own. Her optics dimmed to a deep amethyst as Thunderwing gently placed her upon the repair table. She cringed slightly and let out a hiss from the pain that wracked through her frame when her back finally met the hard surface.

The Seeker slowly turned her head to look at the scientist as he injected the fuel line with a receptor inhibitor in order to help ease her pain. She silently thanked Primus for suck medical advances as she slowly turned her head to look up at the ceiling. While Thunderwing left her side Blackwind began to try and access her memory banks once more, but she came across the same results as before; a large chunk of information gone…completely erased.

In an instant she began to panic; she brought her hands to her head and again she ran a scan on her processor, and again nothing. She ran a self-diagnostic as Thunderwing had suggested, and to her surprise most of her systems were functioning, but they were severely damaged, as was her frame. The information from the diagnostic coupled with her failed memory caused her to sit upright and slide off the table.

“No! No! No! This cannot be happening!”

The Seeker tore out the wires and cables from her body as she began to maneuver around the table and toward the door.

“I don’t remember anything! Why can’t I remember? What’s happened to me?”

Blackwind made a desperate attempt to reach the door, but with her systems nearly depleted and her frame’s serious damage she simply collapsed to the floor in a heap. Is this what it’s like to be in Hell?

Swindle is on the two defunct CR chambers almost as soon as Divebomb points them out, quickly and efficiently stripping them of useful parts to revonate the others. Its a process the munitions expert seems familiar with, though why a weapons repairmech would be able to dismantle vital medical equipment and make off with the most important parts is probably a question best not brought up.

When Divebomb mentions the oil, however, he sets the pile of parts down and looks the Predacon over. "I can see you earn your place on Razorclaws team. Its nice to know we have another set of eyes on duty, that can pick up even little details like that."

The Combaticon rubs his chin. "Now, I obviously can't part with all of what I had. For all I know this is the last of the stuff in the galaxy, and Onslaught gave me orders to keep some to try to remake the formula. But I have a spare canister that I might be willing to part with. The last of Maccadams brew....pretty unique stuff. I'd need something equally unique in exchange."

He smiles as he leans a little closer. "So, Divebomb, what do you have to offer me?"

"Eh?! Fine!" Brawl bellowed in his usual manner as both Blast-Off and Vortex decided to suggest him the next course of action.

Putting his impressive strength to use, Brawl pulled open the nearest energon coupling that had had its automatic hatch locked up and apparently still without power to open it through a simple signature detection protocol.

And that was when the inevitable happened. All the energon Shockwave's team had, had been brought to Cybertron within Thanatos. Some of it had been taken into the tower to power just the most important primary systems. Energon consumption was vigilantly regulated and not a single drop of energon had been authorized to be used without permission from either Shockwave or Razorclaw. Thus, the fuel reserves of the silo were as drained as they had been since Cybertron had been evacuated.

"Vortex?! Either this energon meter is broken or there's no energon in the silo's fuel reserves!"

The Hexagon – Tower Main Laboratory

"Ever wonder how'd that taste like ol' pal?" Skullcruncher asked Weirdwolf while piling up the reinforced energon cubes containing the plasma energy samples.

"Fry your circuits it would. Advice such thing could I not." Weirdwolf replied, flashing a wicked grin. While he had not studied plasma energy in any manner himself, he was an intelligent mech, possessing enough basic information about various subjects to be able to recall information about pre-war publishings he had read. "That way like pure unprocessed energon it is, only vastly stronger!"

The Hexagon – Silo A-2

“You're kiddin' me, right? Did you double check it?”

Vortex was inclined to agree with his initial presumption of Brawl: an imbecile who wouldn't be able to point out the general location of a severe case of rust rash, even if it were concentrated in a single area on his body. But something altered his perception of his team-mate's seemingly inept actions. A thought that proceeded to incite Vortex's frustration considerably. Cybertron, to his recollection, was no longer the abundant, spherical mass of energy it had once been.

Well, then. It appeared Brawl wasn't at fault here. An astounding revelation, to say the least.

“Looks like it's the latter, Brawler. We may have to search elsewhere for fuel.”

There was a first time for everything, after all.

The interrogator opened a comm-channel to Blast Off, his tone returning to the usual cheerful pitch he conversed in. >>”Blast, this silo is as empty as Brawl's cranial unit. I'm guessing, too, that most of Cybertron will probably be like this. So what's the plan of action now?”<<

Thunderwing’s Laboratory

Thunderwing’s question was greeted with shouting from Blackwind. He moved over towards her as she began tearing out the connections he had made to her from the diagnostic equipment and the lab’s power plant. “You shouldn’t be moving around yet Blackwind…” He was interrupted by more shouts from her before she collapsed.

The scientist moved quickly around the berth to where she lay crumpled on the floor. He carefully scooped her up in his arms and gently laid her back down on the repair berth. “The discharge likely wiped some of your short term memory banks. You were struck by a stray plasma bolt from the plasma energy chamber. It did severe damage to all of your systems and it will require some work to get you back to a fully functional state.” He carefully reattached the cables, feeding power back into her systems.

“There is no need to worry; I should have warned you about some possible memory loss. I assume you know where you are and who I am.” He smiled at her before moving back to the console he had been working at earlier. Her sudden motion and tearing out of wires had interrupted his previous scans. “I have very sophisticated equipment in there, the likes of which probably don’t exist anywhere else in the Empire. I will repair you Blackwind, I just need you to stay calm and still.” He reactivated the scanning cycle and waited for it to complete before he began an analysis.

Razorclaw listened carefully to Thunderwing’s reaction when told of Shockwave’s intent to travel to Iacon. The Predacon Commander agreed that the cycloptic mech most likely had a plan in regards to dealing with the Autobots, as it would otherwise be illogical if he didn’t. Of course, Razorclaw’s main concern was whether that plan entailed sharing vital information with the enemy. However, the Predacon leader was careful not to allude to his suspicions of possible treason, as he did not know what kind of response he would garner from the equally secretive scientist. As it were, it did not appear that Thunderwing knew of Shockwave’s motives any more than Onslaught or himself.

>>”Understood, Lord Thunderwing. My team will be ready for departure at a moment’s notice if required.”<<

Razorclaw’s response was in keeping with the previously established hierarchy within the Decepticon ranks on Cybertron. He was not about to make waves at this point, not until it was necessary at any rate. The Predacon Commander was dismayed to hear of Blackwind’s current state. Clearly she would be of no use on any recon mission to Iacon. Naturally, the question of her condition had elicited an inquiry from Thunderwing as to what Razorclaw and Onslaught were planning, themselves. Once again, the lead Predacon would have to be careful with what to divulge to the scientist and what to keep to himself.

>>”Onslaught and I had considered making use of Blackwind’s power of invisibility by sending her on a sort of recon mission to Iacon. We are, of course, curious as to what Shockwave is doing there, but even more so, we want to make sure that the Autobots don’t try and take him prisoner. Shockwave has vital information regarding our operations here in Polyhex and we’re concerned that the Autobots could try and forcibly obtain such data if given the opportunity. He will need immediate back-up and extraction if the worse case scenario occurs.”<<

Razorclaw gave Onslaught a knowing glance. The Predacon leader spoke only in half truths as he didn’t want Thunderwing to know that he really believed Shockwave was liable to hand over information to the Autobots willingly and without the need of coercion or any other kind of interrogative methods. Razorclaw hoped he was able to mask his real suspicions adequately as he awaited a further response from the scientist.

The Obliteration – Engineering

Blast-Off waited patiently for energon to begin flowing into the power cells of the ship. When that did not happen within a reasonable amount of time, the space warrior began to wonder if his two comrades were as capable of getting the job done as he had initially thought. For frag’s sake, how long does it take to hook up a cable to a power coupling?

Blast-Off then received Vortex’s transmission and realized that his teammates were not to blame for the delay. It seemed that energon would have to be siphoned from the tower, itself, as none had yet been allocated to the silo. Of course, the power currently flowing through Shockwave’s Tower had to have come from somewhere initially and seeing as the Thanatos was the only other ship docked in Polyhex, it was safe to assume that the required energon had been transported to Cybertron within its hull. Furthermore, it was very likely that extra energon remained onboard the Predacons’ warship. Regardless, the allocation of more power from either the tower or the Thanatos would require a higher authority than his own.

>>”Understood, Vortex. Hold tight while I alert Onslaught of the situation.”<<

Blast-Off then opened a new comm line: >>”Commander Onslaught, this is Blast-Off. We are unable to recharge the Obliteration’s fuel cells as the silo’s reserves are empty. Is there any way to allot some energon from the tower, sir? Or is there is another source of power we can consider? Perhaps the Thanatos has extra energon onboard?”<<

The Tower – Medical Facility

Divebomb smiled as Swindle responded to his inquiry the way he had hoped. “A spare canister, huh?” The flying Predacon replied, folding his arms across his chest plate. “It is unique oil, indeed, especially around these parts. Luckily, I think have something that you’ll find just as unique or at least just as valuable.”

Divebomb glanced down at his side and accessed his subspace pocket, pulling out a large crystal shard that seemed to almost glow as the light of the room glistened off its numerous shiny surfaces. The Predacon held it up in front of him, making sure Swindle could see it properly. “This is a Lysken Crystal. From what I understand, they are mainly known for their flawless beauty and are very hard to come by. I managed to procure it a while back while stationed on an asteroid within the Borsin Quadrant. There were more crystals like this one in the cave that I discovered it in, but I was unable to carry any more with me. I mainly took it because I found it pleasant to stare at and not for any monetary value. I’m not familiar with the crystal’s exact worth, but I’m sure one canister of Maccadam’s would be a fair trade for such a treasure don't you think?”

Onslaught had cautiously noted Razorclaw’s glance and had even momentarily returned it, but he kept the overwhelming majority of his attention on the Warlord of Valckasta where it belonged. After all, the Combaticon Commander did not want to be perceived as withholding information, especially when a lack of information was what had put them in this position in the first place.

“Indeed. Our primary concern is that the Commander may have not accounted for every contingency. I’m the first to admit that it’s unlikely, given who we’re referencing, but my experience has long taught me to prepare contingencies for even those most well laid out plans. To that end, it would be beneficial if we knew what the next stage of our operations on Cybertron are to be. If I may ask, are you aware of what that might be? We have been restoring Polyhex as ordered, and yet the cyberforming technology was ordered to be secured aboard the Thanatos. As you know, sir, our resource allocation going forward will be markedly different—depending on whether we plan to stay and conquer or cut and run. My men and I simple need to be directed accordingly.”

If Shockwave had been as noticeably quiet about their long-term strategy on Cybertron with Thunderwing as he had been with everything else, they were quickly going to find themselves back at the original square and would have to prepare their own set of backup plans. It was a prospect that Onslaught found appealing, but he would not do so without securing the necessary information and permissions.

Onslaught noted the incoming communication from Blast-Off. Instead of responding verbally and potentially showing disrespect to the warlord, Onslaught sent off a simple textual command via the control panel.

Standby.
