First off, let me say that whoever this fellow is, be it Grimlock or otherwise, I LIKE this design.

That said...

I, Grimlock, would be nothing short of dapper in such a garment.

The right should looks to be one of the others upper jaw/beak/muzzle. Possibly grimlocks, but I highly doubt it due to the shape, and the previously seen picture of Optimus riding Grimlock into battle.

This is entirely speculation, But from what I can tell, I believe that Michael Bay has introduced DINO KING into the fray. The dino bots combine to form the great Dino King! As I said, this is entirely speculation due to the poor picture posted.

To add to this, the fist on the right hand looks like a spiked tail from a What I would guess to be Slag (Stegosaurus) and the large staff/mace looks to be his spines from along his back as well.

I can only guess this at the moment, But I think that Snarl will become the left arm, Slag will become the right arm. While Grimlock will become the main body and legs. Also, If Swoop is in the fray, I think he would become part of the lower abdomen, while his wings drape around the sides of the thighs and possibly into the front of the combined robot.

Feel free to prove me wrong, as this is all best guess and speculation based on the provided picture.

what photo are you looking at?

specidifcally.. what shoulders are you looking at? CLEARLY one shoulder is the upper head/jaw, and the other shoulder is the lower jaw.. i'm not sure how that isn't obvious.. especially when you factor in the look of grimlocks dinosaur mode that we've seen.. the shoulders look EXACTLY like his dino head.. so i'm not sure what you're looking at. maybe you're right about this being a combination.. but you're definitely wrong about the shoulders. and i wouldn't put it passed bay for grimlock to have weapons that look like these.

Would you accept a complaint that he isn't a green construction vehicle? (I joke of course :P )

Expecting anything in Bayverse to look like it's G1 self would just be silly. Of course that's not going to happen, so I wouldn't see why anyone would, at this point, have that problem. Sadly, some of the movies' designs have been bad in and of themselves. (some of them, like Bumblebee and Prime can be appreciated better once they were made in plastic I personally feel)

When we get a clear shot of this guy and we see he has six bug eyes and mandibles we'll start complaining, don't you worry. But for now, from what we see, it looks pretty good. At least it feels like a good concept to put behind Dinobots

Believe it or not, the very 1st commercial I saw for Dinozaurs had the title "Transformers: Dinobots", so it's not as coincidental as one may think that Grimlock here looks like Tyranno (I'm still waiting for a figure of Ultimate Tyranno).

Also, who care's if he's not designed after his G1 bot mode. If anything, the fanboys are lucky to be getting Grimlock at all.

1.I believe the bay-verse Grimlock will be something like the Skyfire/Jetfire character. A lost Autobot who arrived before Prime's crew much like the G1 original series canon Insecticons did before Megatron's.
2.But yeah It's clearly Grimlock with the T-rex head football shoulder pads.
I just wish we could have them look a little something like the originals. In my humble opinion they deviated way too far away from the original likeness of well, all of them.

Oh hell, they keep introducing good designs for this movie. ROTF burned all the bridges that might lead me to watch this movie, but that doesn't mean I can't be suckered into buying the toys, and I was hoping to cut back on my collecting when this line comes out.

That being said, I like how they finally figured out how to make these designs look like real, interesting characters, rather than big piles of garbage. He just looks really, really good, and that's about all I can say.

WoW    . This design looks incredible. Man. I'm praying that this turns out to be a great big bad looking leader class or bigger, good toy. Barbarian, predator, ancient alien battle hardened going to do even more damage than what optimus does. I even like his wizard shoes. Almost a total win other than his small head. Can't wait to see how bad and mean looking will the Decepticons be.
This Grimlock is by far one the best looking initial bayformers designs I ever saw.
Long Live Movieverse. Oh yeah, the more raw, wild and like g1 Grimlocks character was the better. I mean like this: Me Grimlock, me king, optimus is no king, Grimlock King. Live actoin Transformers movies :D
Optimus: The Decepticons are a species of life just like us Autobots. They deserve a choice.
Bumblebee: You are rite Optimus, your compassion and courage is what makes you a great leader, bearer of the matrix.

Here here. if they keep that badass character going throughout and use it in the actual movie, properly, it will be a huge step in the right direction. But if the ground poster was any guess, Prime will ride Grimlock at some point... :-s

To me,it looks ver much Megatron-like to me. So it could be rebuilded Megatron as well.

But if this is Grimlock, then I'm pleased. There finally is a chance for a badass looking Autobot. Maybe this time Autobot victory could look at least a little realistic

So, world of warcraft movie is going to happen? Wow (no pun intented), that is great.

...wait. This is Grimlock? Umm...no. no He isn't. Oh, because he doesn't look like G1? No. That is something that some of you are for some reason assuming. I don't know where that idea comes, since likely only small minority would want them to look exactly like G1. And what does that even means? G1 designs from the 80's, or perhaps these more modern versions of those same characters? My point about these desings has always being, that they doesn't look like belonging to TF-Universe. If we think about those game desings and take them as an example, then abviously they aren't like G1 and look more modern, but they look like transformers and not some fantasy knights or lego bionicle. They follow these certain desings, or pattern if you will.

That being said, I don't find this Grimlock (if it even is grimlock) that cool. It looks like somekind of a rather generic fantasy monster, that could be from any final fantasy game. Though the picture isn't that great either, but still. This was something that should be expected what comes to these movies, but it is still a disappointment. It is clear that they don't try to look anything like transformers and for some that is fine. But it doesn't mean that one should still automatically accept the changes or like this kind of a changes. It should IMO have at least some abvious hints that he is supposed to be Grimlock and not a random enemy number 66 from FF or something like that.

It is a bit funny how for example makers of superhero movies usually try to make characters look much like their comic book counterparts and they actually really make an effort to do so. Sometimes something must be changed, because in live action movie it would look too silly or it wouldn't work. But as far as I know, many think that they should still somehow kind of a "respect" the original material they are working with. And why work with a title or material you already hate or feel absolutely silly to beging with. Apparently some movie makers and directors have complitely different approach what comes to this. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Like being said, I suppose one should already expect this, but it would be fun to see a TF movie with different desing team etc. It could be worse or better, who knows. I mean who would like to see Burton's Batman made over and over again (or Nolan's Batman)?

AWWWW, I'd LOVE to take a crack at this, but I don't have time and don't want to de-rail the topic. I guess look at it this way; When Sam Raimi said he was making Spider-man a real movie, we expected Peter Parker, not the African american kid from Ultimate spider-man. Obviously, we got Parker, regardless of how much the franchise has grown since it's birth. This is the first time TF has been realised in live action and G1 is the source material, much is the original spidey stories. I don't expect G1 to be the only source for the movies, but those who have a connection to it obviously expect something when they hear certain names. It's not odd really, so long as, once the bar is set (ala the first film) we realise what's happening and let go.

We all know what we think when we hear the name Grimlock. He looks nothing like G1 Grimmy, but he looks big, brutal and is a T-rex :D

But c'mon, we know none of the RiD name drops don't count ;) Gigatron, Black Convoy, Speedbreaker, Mach Alert, those are the characters we love :P This is why I don't like the name dropping Hasbro has as a whole.(yeah, probably some TT characters did it too, but it's hasbro names that do it most) I prefer Dreadlock to Jetfire, Excelion to Hot-Shot because I'd rather the universe expand with new characters to add to my favourites.

I suppose it depends on what the names have attached to them. Some work, some don't. Some, Like Energon Galvatron are homages, Armada Cyclonus is so far removed from G1 Cyclonus you KNOW it's not SUPPOSED TO BE the same character. Others like RiD Grimlock is just plain stupid, and others, like animated Prowl just work. Not easy to put common sense to it :KREMZEEK:
Sabes, you could PM me if you want, I love this namesake topic :HEADHURTS:

If he turns out to be a big leader class good toy. Then its going to be him versus my Tf prime beast fire Predaking that I have on display right now or if he turns out to be a small leader class good figure then its going to be him versus my upcoming 3rd party razor claw witch will be on my display shelf soon too. I need some much needed beastly Autobot competition for those to bad guys cause my air attack optimal primal is to tall in robot mode to go against those to beast bad guys I think. I say I think because I still got air attack in package. I can't wait for this
Optimus: The Decepticons are a species of life just like us Autobots. They deserve a choice.
Bumblebee: You are rite Optimus, your compassion and courage is what makes you a great leader, bearer of the matrix.
Grimlock: I will Crush the Decepticons, I will Destroy, Dinobots transform, I'm ready for anything, Attaaaaack, No survivorsssssss.

I have included the picture with the areas of references magnified and circled to prove my points. As you can clearly see, both shoulders are upper jaws, as they both have nostrils.

I also highlighted what I think would be Swoop as part of the waist, along with his wings draping backwards around the butt of Dino King / King Grimlock

I would also like to point out that Grimlock, Doesn't have a beak. Especially one with nostrils. LOL.

Here is the pic.
