I think that they should really consider a reboot and/or use the 1986 script because they now have the technology to support it.The 1986 script can work as long they keep all the emotional stuff out(Rhodimus Prime(sp?)) and find a way to get some Stan Bush into it(The Touch). At this point, the film going audience has completely bought into this mythology and they would appreciate a little depth.
Everyone is too complex for these movies, ex: Shockwave has one line in DOTM. I don't see the 86 movie working at all, considering that so much consists of non-Earth setting, about 20 new characters will have to be introduced/revived (Devastator, Soundwave, Megatron, Starscream...). Unless you're talking about it not being related to the three existing movies...in which case I think most people will realize it's not the same, and won't see it, considering it will lack a hot girl, all the humor, and probably the quality of action. And I don't think many have really bought into the mythology, just the fun atmosphere. Although a lot of kids are probably getting into Transformers with these movies. Also, I'm pretty sure nobody will appreciate the 80's music, it sounds extremely cheesy unless you know it's significance. No offence to your ideas though.
