The Reprolabels set does such a nice job, and I have no idea what the waist piece is for, really. The head looks G1, but so does the one that comes with the figure. These 3rd party pieces can't be exacting to the original designs, that's begging for trouble, but this is as close as you can get.
Heck, Hasbro doesn't even get close to the G1 designs on a lot of their figures. Generations Rattrap and Tankor are about the closest to the animation models as they've gotten in like, ever. Oh, I should include Rhinox in there as well.
I quite agree with you. I'm thinking about the Reprolabels set myself.
I thought the classics seekers were pretty close to the animation models. (Except maybe for the cockpit hanging off the back of the head, but I liked that as a sort of nod to the G1 toys.) Also, the WfC and FoC have been pretty decent for matching the animation models in the game. But yeah, your point is well taken in that Has/Tak does well to try to match animation models in the Masterpiece line, but not quite so much in the Classics/Generations line.
