Romero? You mean Rodriguez? All I heard on the subject was that the director said he was just ignoring Predator 2, not retconning it.

Me and names:P
Isn't ignoring something a sort of retconning? Like ignoring the death of a character being a retconn of his death?

And now wikipedia says it's a "sort of sequel" to Predator 2, while one of their source for that statemnt is an interview with Rodriguez stating he hopes the movie will make them forget the bad Predator sequels so that they only remember the first and this one. I no longer care for the continuity in this. :BOOM:

I for one, applaud this decision.

Not only am I excited about the upcoming Alien movies, I really hope there's a chance to do a good Aliens vs. Predator movie (which is an idea I cannot believe people can screw up).

What up Supreme! Long time no see how have you been?

I used to go by Nova-Ting Ranger.

Also, so far everything I've heard has been great about this movie. I could never understand how Aliens got so many more movies than the Predator franchise. I mean you just need one Predator to make a good movie, where as Alien had thousand to a dozen per movie (except for the first one).

And the 3rd.

I don't know maybe because Alien had a huge impact on the audience, critics and the industry back then?

And the first Predator film didn't either?

Otherwise all those videogames, crossovers, comics, and novels are just exercises in wasting money. Chance are that 90% of audience of Alien franchise has seen a Predator film, even before the crossovers. Granted it may not be as popular as Alien, but it is still popular enough to warrant another film, at least ten years ago when the concept of a sequel truly began to loose its significance in film.

A continuity enema is always justified if the film turns out good, but yeah, i can do without the "Ultimate Infinite Predator Crisis on Earth" in my movie. This time, the bomb on the other wrist and all Predators are vegetarians. Who cares as long as it is a good hunt.

Not as much as Alien did when it came out.
From what I get the first Predator was considered to be a pretty good movie back then. While Alien managed to even get the Critics to like it, now over 30 years later it's still regarded as possibly the best Sci-fi movie ever made by a few critics, even a channel over here that concentrates on nothing but boring art films and stuff that's of interest for grandpas airs Alien.

Predator seems to mostly fascinate science fiction fans while Alien seems to be in the public eye like Star Wars, maybe the fact that James Cameron did the sequil Aliens makes it so much more famous?

Anyway the first time I ever heard of Predator was when AVP came out, at which time I had already spent my entire childhood fearing the Xenomorph.

Ridley Scott established Alien as one of the greatest movies of all time long before James Cameron and a bunch of Marine's came along. Alien had the scare factor, Aliens had a little of the scare factor but bigger guns. :P

As for the success of Predator, I think a large part of it was it was the 80's and it had some of the big action names of the time in it.

Finally saw it last night. A perfect follow up to the first two films, even if it ignores the second one. In fact the AVP series still kind of fits in, despite not being referred to at all. It seems to me that only first ones get any sort of mention in any of the Predator films. I chalk it up to better cover ups, and technically speaking only one person made it to the end of AVP 1, and promptly got ditched in the middle of the Arctic (containment solved). In AVP:R the only survivors were rounded up anyway. So I figure the first one get mentioned a lot because the (governments) weren't prepared for this sort of thing at the time.

Loved the Super Predators and whole idea of hunt preserve planet. Only compliant: I had Topher Grace's character pegged the minute I saw him. If you've seen the first two films then you have a grasp of Pred hunting rules/logic, even with these rogue Preds. In fact, the film's human characters pretty much say that everything any Predators does is deliberate and calculated. The rest you can figure out from there. Also, the sword duel was awesome, and made up for the fact that we never saw Billy (From the first one) fight.

As for Brody: I had doubts about him being an leading action star, but after this I have him pegged to be a top candidate the next Batman after Christian Bale. As for the character, definitely above Arnold's for not only setting up traps but actually killing one, but just below Glover's. The reason being is that he had to set up traps, and had help, but it was a Super Pred, so more props to him. I give Glover's characters top billing because not only did he chase after his Predator after first seeing him in the flesh, but he was on the Predator like a dog all the way back to the Predator's ship where he killed it. he had no time set up any traps, had no help from anyone else (The government guys were only good for making the Predator feel chilly before dying), and he stop the forearm bomb from going off, thus saving LA.

Just saw it today. It was fun, but somehow I wasn't as drawn in as I'd hoped I'd be. Seemed like a lot of wasted opportunities. For example, let's free the predator, he'll help us. Oh wait, he's dead. Crap. :-?

Still, as an undeniable popcorn muncher, can't say I didn't enjoy it.

I think I read a spoiler on him, so that part was ruined. But not like we weren't warned about ten minutes into the movie anyway.

My only complaint was you could tell who was going to live right off the bat. No surprise.

That was cool, too. There was a lot of homage to the first one, especially the end credit song. And the Yakuza fight started exactly like the fight between the Predator in the first movie and Billy (except the Yakuza guy didn't cut his own chest first). I think they even used the same music.

Man, after I they started the Arnold quotes, I spent the rest of the movie hoping they would stumble upon a helicopter

Yea, at first that was very disappointing. But when you consider the classic predator was hunted down, chained up, and possibly not fed and tortured, he really didn't stand a chance against a super predator. He put up a damn good fight though given the condition he was in, and I was pulling for him to somehow win.

And he sent the ship off eminently with auto-pilot for earth if he had counted on surviving he would have waited with the launch to also get off the planet and make it back home.

Actually he surprised me (Stans) when he got back up. I liked his character better than Topher's. He took a blast from the shoulder cannon, and then took a shive to a super Predator, that's bad ass. I actually thought he was gonna claim a kill too, but he still bought time for the others.

Good to see that they can still make a good Predator movie, especially since AvP nearly killed the franchise.

I finally got off my kiester and went and saw it, and I enjoyed it, but I do wish they'd had more Predator scenes and a bit more skinning.

I didn't mind AvP, but AvPR I thought wasn't the greatest thing I've ever seen. P2 I saw once, years ago, but the first one by all means still holds the title of best Pred. movie IMHO.

I mean, Arnie, outrunning an alien nuke, you can't beat that!

I really like this movie. It's the best since the original but I did love the Predators portrayl in AvP.

I think Brody did a good job of pulling off a merc with an attitude and brains for survival.

Last I heard a few months back was that FOX studios was looking to continue and had asked the dirctor/writer team where they would go with another installment.

I thought Predator 2 was a pretty real sequel to Predator. References and acknowledgments of Predator 1 are scattered in the movie.

I think its pretty good. Considering the source material.

I mean the sheer amount of blood and gore, makes this an awesome film.

Also Danny Glover is not too old for that sh** in this film.

Yeah, I never understood the problem with Predator 2. The AvP movies, sure, I can see why people don't like those (But both of them are guilty pleasures of mine) but I never got why people don't like Predator 2.
