Otherwise snide commentary aside, here's my thoughts on this matter...

We as collectors have been offered a tantalizing, refreshing, swimming pool of goodness to dive head-first into. Details, added features, the promises of shininess...

Unfortunately the pool is shallow, someone is going to break their arm (or wallet), and in the end, a great deal is going to be spent on, let's face it, minor repaints.

What I do not get for the life of me, is how some of us collectors out there will argue against repaints for so long, that they literally **** themselves and stink up the place with something other than their opinion because they can't leave the keyboard long enough to stop complaining about the latest 'Wave 6, Revision #2484723' Case, which is incidentally, all repaints.

But, here! Make them shiny and it's a whole bloody other story.

I love repaints. Let's be clear.

Look at my collection (go ahead, it's a fun thing to do), I am probably one of the worst offenders out there because I love variations; hence I buy every odd repaint I can. Be warned though fellow Trans-fans...you're about to start the game that Star Wars fans enter every single year. You think buying an 8th Han Solo (this time with goop on his boots, otherwise known as the "This is no asteroid sweetheart!" Han variant is tough at $4.99? Try doing it over and over at $20 or $40.

In one regard though, Hasbro is giving folks the detail and paint jobs they would want as collectors. Perhaps though, a heads-up was in order for this one?

And why not? Does anyone think the TF movie line would have suffered without some collectors waiting for the premium line to come out? I don't think so.

Just a thought before the rampant feeding frenzy of purchasing commences...add up what you've spent on the movie line so far. Will it be worth the trouble to hunt these down again? Is it worth the cost to repurchase them?

Lastly, I am not against repaints or even any of these particular repaints. What I take issue with is the idea that we could start seeing truly minor variations sold off as "Premium" lines in the future and without a real heads-up from Hasbro, many of us aren't going to wait around to buy the later line, or are going to indefinitely hold out for "premium" toys which may or may not come. Hasbro just need not bite the hand that feeds it here.

I do wonder tho if the two toy were on the shelf at he same time wih a differnce in price ho that would have affected sale.
Would people have went with the cheaper one because essential your getting th same toy
Or would they have plumped for the more expensve one with the better deco.

I know the answr most people on the board would give but the average consumer - those who liked the movie, parents buying for kids and collectors allike i wonder how the results wuld have endd up if people were given the choice initially

Blackout I didn't get the first time around. Prime I would want, but the sword doesn't make it worth the extra purchase. I'll consider whether to repaint my Megatron or to buy this one. Starscream, also only worth it if I didn't already have one of his mold. Since I got the G1 colored version, it'll go on a backburner that I might pick up if they're easily available. I do hope there's not a craze over the new BB. One is enough.

I suspect there's demand left over from the big shortage of the first run of the toys, so although this takes repainting to degrees that would usually would deserve the snide comments, I'm OK with what amounts to a modified re-release. Megatron should've had a better release to begin with, but otherwise, no biggie. They're marketing to the folks who almost would've bought one the first time around, but didn't. People who would buy both are probably in the minority of the market.

I seriously considered sending leader Prime & Megs out for repainting. I'm glad that I didn't.

Also, I can't wait for a better looking Ironhide. He is awesome to begin with. The blue one isn't doing it for me, but I'll get it anyway. IH is my boy!

The only ones that I choose to stay away from are the 2 Best Buy exclusives. Not crazy about those 2 figs. (Especially Megatron.)

I would've gotten Ratchet had he looked better than Rescue Ratchet. To me he didn't. Shouldn't have been green to begin with, but ah well ... that's life.

I am ashamed to say that I've two of this "premium" line. Robovision Prime, and Best Buy Megatron. What I don't have is their "inferior" brothers. Hence, why I got them. Especially with Robovision Prime, since he came first and all. Then I just thought that Voyager Megatron looked like a lame attempt at a toy to begin with, so I passed him up. Then when I heard of this "Premium" Megs I sold out and got one.

But on the othr hand, I'm not going to re-buy anything that I already have. There's a difference in repaints and this. Although one would not easily find repaints in my collection, they are there... But these are not repaints. They are the same figure, just with "better" paint jobs. The name of the line even blatany exclaims that. Premium. Its a dignified way way to say better than.

Also, like others have said... This was truly aimed at collectors. Half the parents out there will be able to see the difference between a premium figure and the regular even if they held one in each hand. The other half of the parents that will see the difference will be the ones that recognize exactly what it is. The same thing. Just better. And most parents won't shell out that kind of dough on their kid. Hell, back in the day my parents refused to pay for anything bigger than Mega class (Or Voyager class for those of you living in current times) so I missed out on pretty much... Well, major characters. Like Optimus and Megatron.

Then, its another slap in the face remolding the leaders class figures. Leader class figures run $40 USd at SRP. That ain't pocket change. Least, not to me; I'm a college drop-out but that's a whole nother discussion right there.... Notice that only the leaders were remolded? They're attempting to give us more bang for our buck. A single inch at a time.


Just no. Not doing this. If I take a picture of my collection to show off to everyone here, and you guys wouldn't be able to tell the difference, then it has no place in my collection. The flash of a camera could hit a regular Movie Ratchet and make him look shiny. Then somebody would think its the premium one.

Although keeping my RV Prime and BB Megs makes me a tad bit of a hypocrite because I passed up the regular ones then thought twice when I saw these things...

I guess, when it comes down to it... I have to fall back on my collecting method. I collect what I like. I do not like these, therefore, I do not get them. End of.

Metallic silvery paint and molding on the Leader class toys!!

Item 3:
Prime's Sword in place of that gun that he never used in the movie..

Item 4:
Barricade's redeco, more accurate, and possibly a new head sculpt too, though I can't really tell at this point..

Item 5:
there will be certain treatments done to the windows, and other parts of the vehicles and robot modes, details that make them look more realistic..like they were represented in the movie..


Overall, I'm okay with the decision.. but my wallet is sighing..

His gun came from his back though, not the side of his arm, is what he is getting at I believe.

I think I'll buy it, just for my desk though. I'm not getting all of them. Just Prime and Bumblebee for a work desk display. I'll repaint everything else!

The pics were loaded on Page 3, or 2. One of those.

And, after reading some of the comments in this thread, I'm reconsidering. As a TF noob, I wasn't aware of how much money Hasbro likes to milk. I like these metallic figs, but I don't like them enough to shell out another $20-$40 each. Nor do I feel like going store to store, hunting them, asking employees when/if they'll get more. I don't want to go through that Best Buy nightmare again.

yeah, i guess your right, but that gun was a split second, and really to me, the Sword got more screen time and really should have been the one weapon released with Prime from the get go..

also i hate to ask, but will Jazz be the only shelf warmer from this line??

yeah, i guess your right, but that gun was a split second, and really to me, the Sword got more screen time and really should have been the one weapon released with Prime from the get go..

And if you REALLY want to, compare movie megs fusion cannon with the one on the toy, they look completely different...

I'm glad I skipped a class on Oct. 16th to make sure I could get a movie-accurate colored Megatron figure. If I had known this then I would have wasted the time on the crappy voyager mold. (i know the leader mold has its problems also)

I may get the Prime and Megatron after I get a better look and if I think they're enough of an improvement AND if I think I can sell my Best Buy Megatron and original leader Prime.

The others don't seem interesting at all. I've already got 3 of that Starscream mold and I think the existing Barricade and Ironhide figs look fine.

shoot, I figure this is the first and only, so far, Transformers live action movie, and toyline... so for me, th more the merrier, whether in my collection or not, for me it's a huge milestone akin to the days of G-1...

I'm buying as many movie toys as I can get my mitts on.. and the premium figures shall be my masterpiece of the lot...

granted a metallic leader Prime is something I've always wanted, I would o absolutely Bonkers over a repaint of Leader class movie prime in the First Strike colors.. I. E. Generaton one..or ala the metallic chrome, one of a kind..Lucky Bastard....version.. or the much touted and hyped, but aptly so.. custom repaint!!! argggghhh!!!!

just a metallic version of that would sooo be the holy grail of my Movie collection...

I want one, but from Hasbro and not painted by someone else..in MP starscream type packaging.. that would be awesome!!!:sad:

this version in the Deluxe just pales in comparison, and to me actually looks better with the flames..



bottom line, hasbro please make the First Strike optimus Prime in metallics and in the premium line.. then atleast I won't feel so jipped out on the custom chrome version..

Megs is really the only thing here worth looking at.

There is a custom company that makes a "Prime Blade" that looks a lot more movie accurate than this, and you get to keep the gun.

Original Jazz, Barricade and Ironhide are fine, just like Ratchet is fine. These "premium" upgrades arent worth the money.

Any of your who still have your leader megs MISB, go to your walmart (or wherever you bought it) when these come out, demand store credit (you dont need a receipt as long as its sealed) and grab the new one.

Customer service doesnt care, they arent losing any money.
Make a fuss if you have to, they will just give you a giftcard for the amount.

I can't see anyone complain about this. It's like the fan base whined and said "Hasbro should have done the movie painted like the movie and done by a professional." Hasbro said ok, and did it for the regular price.

they should have done it in the first place, instead of releasing the toys we have now.

I'm alittle angry as most are here as I have doubles and in some case triples of some of these figures and now I'll probably be picking up a fourth or fifth.

I do feel like it is a slap for us true fans and collectors. Hasbro knows they have us by the B@lls and will probably be releasing them in smaller quantities like the Robo-vision prime, BB megs and Ratchet because the audience to buy multiples is much smaller.

I just took most of my figures out the boxes a few weeks ago to finally display - damn! I could have returned them since I have all the receipts too

My biggest gripe is that these will probably be exclusives and I won't be able to find them due to the scalpers. I actually met a scalper on Friday night and wanted to kick him in the face. I was just in Target looking through all the deluxes for something I didn't have and I hear a voice "Looking for Bumblebees?" I said no and he said they go for a fortune on eBay, yada yada. I could tell he wasn't a fan and just looking to make some loot so I was like whatever.
