If I didn't already have the Takara Sunstorm and Prowl, these might be tempting. As it is, Sunstorm's colors are too off putting....too bright a yellow, with that red....McDonald's Sunstorm. I might have been able to look past that if his head and other accent color was black instead of diarrhea brown. The flame paintjob on Hasbro's jet mode is cooler, but Takara's is a classier color scheme all around.

And I'm glad I paid a little more for Takara's Prowl. It was only about $10 more than Hasbro Prowl, and I've had him for close to a year now. Plus, his box is MUCH easier to store than Hasbro's.

Did I not say I paid $50 shipped for my Takara version a year ago? you know the same price you'll pay for that KO?

Yep, that's great! I can get a Takara one right now for $60 too. Either way TRU isn't gonna get my money. Charging more than Takara is highway robbery.

There's a difference between being a collector and being someone who wants "stuff"

A collector will save up and buy the legitimate product. Someone who wants the look of a real product, but doesn't want to actually pay for it, will go for the "stuff". If buying knock-offs makes you happy, then that's your thing, but it's completely unnecessary to make fun of those who choose to collect the legitimate merchandise.

Concerning the pricing. Used to be the TR/USA domestic release was cheaper than the Tomy version but now the difference is near negligible.

I bought myself a Prowl from TRU's website. Very excited to have him in hand soon! :) I'm passing on Sunstorm. His deco is just...awful. What's up with the bronze helmet and highlights? I'll wait until the Takara one is reissued at some point, or if I can snag one on the secondary market at a good price.

I highly doubt Takara Sunstorm will be reissued - eHobby exclusives generally aren't.

Having both in hand though, I have to say that they're evenly matched. Hasbro's deco looks MUCH better in person, and I actually prefer his vehicle deco over Takara's. The yellow is nice and bright as befits a solar-bot, and the flames are actually a nice metallic orange - it's overall more coherent. The helmet is the one thing that really bugs me. The bronze is nice on the figure, but the helmet doesn't capture that metallic sheen, so doesn't really match those accents. I switched his helmet out for a spare Thundercracker one, and he looks really nice. I'll post a pic in a bit.

I got my MP Prowl today. I'm honestly really, really disappointed. He's entirely plastic, but that didn't surprise me. His shoulder cannons are really small. The entire bot is really small, honestly. He doesn't even compare to MP Rodimus or any of the seekers.

$70 for this little thing. I honestly feel completely ripped off. I don't like TRU in the first place because everything they carry is more expensive than anywhere else. Also, they NEVER seem to stock items like this that are exclusive to their store in this area. Yes, I live in West Virginia but Charleston and Huntington are both decent size cities. I shouldn't have to order this from the internet. *grumble grumble*

The original Sunstorm was an eHobby exclusive, but wasn't MP-11 Sunstorm technically an Amazon.com Japan exclusive? Either way, it got mass distribution in the other Asian (non-Japanese) territories. I wouldn't discount it being released again. Almost every other Masterpiece release in recent years seems to be getting an "Encore" release whether in Japan or in the greater Asian market. I'll remain patient. Though, the temptation to go for the...less pleasing Hasbro release would maybe help Acid Storm not feel like the odd bot out with his unique deco. Think Takara would ever do a Masterpiece Acid Storm in a "traditional" seeker deco layout?

Mine just came in at the address I use for ordering stuff online (we've had packages stolen from my actual address, so we don't trust some of the neighbors here), so I'll be picking up mine tomorrow. Hopefully I won't have the same issues. Really want to get more involved with the Masterpiece line besides the three I own currently, and I hope Prowl is a good first step in that direction.

You have to look at who has been reissued. Prime... Starscream... Grimlock... primary characters who are constantly reincarnated with each new wave of fiction. Sunstorm, though? Not sure he makes that A-list cut.

I really hope Takara does an Acid Storm. Just because the deco differences between the versions would be really interesting, I think. Ideally, we'll see a MP-11 mold Skywarp first, though. :D

I'm really not sure how you can complain in good faith about the size or materials used. The Japanese version has been out for over a year, and there are countless reviews, pictures, and size comparisons. 15 seconds of googling could have given you ALL the information you needed, and more, to avoid this purchase if those were truly deal-breakers.

A Takara version of MP-11 Thundercracker would be needed too. The Hasbro version is very nice, but suffers some of Hasbro's classic "deco tampering" just to be different. I'd like a "clean" version someday without the added "joke" tampographs and with the wing lines of uniform width instead of stylized and flared out.

Good point. I didn't mean it to come across that way. I meant that it just seems silly that so many of these figures never make it to the shelves in every store.

These things have been noob-easy level to find around here, and MPs are usually scalper bait for months. Picked up Prowl today while not even really looking for it.

I have to say, the Hasbro one is actually superior to my Takara one. You know why? Paint. The paint is much, much cleaner. The Fairlady Z logo is crisp, the police shields are even, centered, and bright, the tail lights have clear edges and aren't overdone - I've gotta say, if you didn't get the Takara one, go for the Hasbro over it. Those launchers are sold separately in either case if you have a serious need for them.

I just picked up Prowl earlier today. I think it's fantastic. It's the first masterpiece I bought so I'm sure my opinion on the subject should be taken with a grain of salt compared to some of you folks who have much more experience with them. Im sure all you guys remember the first masterpiece you bought and how awesome you thought it was until you got one that was even awesomer.

Wow, that's a stretch. How's that making fun of "real" collectors? I was just making a statement that I feel is accurate without stretching the truth or attempting to poke fun or insult.
There will be plenty of people buying up this Prowl in my estimation. If you consider that making fun, you probably need some desensitizing treatments.

So I've been abroad for the last month or so for work, so I'm only now opening all the stuff I ordered while I was away, including TRU MP Prowl.

I was very, very pleasantly surprised to find that TRU duplicated my order - I had not 1, but 2 boxes from TRU.com, both containing an MP Prowl inside! I double checked my bank, and I wasn't double-charged. I paid for just the one.

WIN!!! :michaelbay:

Looks like Prowl is going to be warming the shelves for the next year or so. Nobody's buying it at $70. At least it has plenty of those $100 Cybertron Starscreams to keep it company.

That stock picture is a mistake or a fraud. The MP Sunstorm that TRU is selling is using the old MP seeker mold not the new one.

The box shows the old mold, but inside is the new mold...
