Yeah but to be that accurate you gotta scratch build his trailer and armour, and for one thing you gotta be a bloody nasa engineer to figure out how to do that, and then the end result looks like a shoebox with legs. I prefer it this way. Awesome bot mode and cool alt mode as opposed to awesome alt mode and lame looking bot mode.

I did it this way because i don't like the whole idea of him being a twin of Prime. Anyway i thought that was first in the comics, not in G1. I can't remember. Anyway its just a repaint to make him look like UM, otherwise i would have done a scratch built trailer...but im a busy dude.
Besides if i wanted the white twin of Prime i would have just left it the way it was when i brought it.

Well, I'm no NASA engineer and I did figure out how to do it. You have been over to the Who's Kitbashed Classics thread, so I know you have seen it, and no, the end result isn't a "shoebox with legs"

No offense, but thats what it looked like to me. All attempts to do so have looked that way to me so far. The only one that doesnt is Hasbro's own 6 inch Tit magnus, and even that aint perfect.

That's because it's a mater of form following function. This is armor we're talking about. Armor that has to double as a functioning car carrier trailer. It isn't going to be sleek or streamlined. It's going to be broad, powerful and bulky. That is what armor is.

Indeed, but that doesnt stop the fact that with the armour on the figure looks dumb and lumbering, and not heroic and strong looking like his original design.
I wouldnt take form and function over looks since these are display toys, so they have to look good or they fail.

The fact of the matter is that i based this repaint on the cartoon version of UM, from the original movie infact...not the original toy.
However if im correct they never said Magnus was a white version of Prime with armor on. He was just in one form and although his cab was white and trailer was blue and red, it always transformed into one thing. I believe it was Hasbros idea to make him the twin with armor because it was probably alot cheaper for them to make and then Dreamwave adopted the idea(i think thats right).
And i agree with Sonray, once we add paint to a toy it becomes our own. A personal version of a well known identity.

Hasbro is the one who created the character, and the toy did come before the movie. Secondly, the cartoon never said that he wasn't a twin of Prime under the armor. They jsut never showed him without it on. By the same token, we never see Ultra Magnus without his trailer either. Every time he transformed, he combined with his trailer. The cab itself was still identical to Prime, just white, even in the cartoon
Tramp wrote:Not really, because yours doesn't have a trailer, and the cab in vehicle mode is going to be the wrong color. That is the biggest problem wih just repainting the cab in the armored mode colors and giving it his armored mode head. That is only when he is combined with his trailer.
