R.I.D. Mega/Gigatron

Can someone please tell me if there is a difference between the white one and the purple one (apart from the colour)? Does one have more modes? And how tall is he in robot form?

Not quite sure about the height, but I may be able to snag a pic next to Classics Meg or something like that later.

As for modes, they can both technically do the same things. It's just that the instructions for RID Galvatron showed how to form 10, while the instructions for RID Megatron didn't... But they're essentially the same toy. No re-tool or changes that I know of.

Thanks, some kind of comparison pic would be great. I don't have any R.I.D. but I want the purple one cos he looks better!

Basically he{s voyager sized. Other than the color scheme I believe its the exact same figure.

He comes with a double sided Sword.

So here is a pic of Giga/Galvatron next to Movie Ironhide for a height comparison:

Nothing different besides color as far as I know. However, Car Robots Gigatron(the original Japanese release) can't transform into the extra four modes that were added to Devil Gigatron's(a.k.a. Rid Galvatron) mold(boat, griffin, single headed dragon, mammoth), but since Rid Megatron is a repaint of Devil Gigatron, he can transform into those modes.

Correct on all points.

As long as you plan on getting the Hasbro release of the purple figure then theres no difference.

The only thing is that your going to need the instructions to the white one if you want to try all the transformations.

Officaly RID Meg's could only change into 6 modes so the instructions only detail 6 transformations.....but the toy can transform into the 4 addianal modes that RID Galvatron can.

The original Gigatron mold was re-tooled for extra modes and repainted and called Devil Gigatron.

But Hasbro didnt use the original Gigatron mold for their RID Megatron figure.

They used the re-tooled Devil Gigatron mold and painted it ti match the original paint sceme of Gigatron.

Does anyone have the japanese release of (purple) Megatron? I'm wondering if it really isn't possible to put him in the extra four modes. Cos when I put mine in those extra modes it really feels like someone at Hasbro said "hey look what I can do with mine!" and someone else said "that's cool, why don't we stick it in the instructions?". Cos while the elephant mode is good for a laugh it is pretty unconvincing and, well, laughable!

I'm Curious too. Looking at my Galvatron it doesn't seem like any extra joints were put in for the extra modes that weren't already in use for the original modes.

I assume the Botcon Deathsaurus from 3 years ago used the one that changes all 10 times.

Cause that would suck them to return to the other.

I cant answer your underlining question [since I dont have CR Gigatron] but I can tell you it wasnt Hasbro that came up with the extra 4 [or what ever] modes.

Devil Gigatron [RID Galvatron] had those extra modes before any of the Hasbro releases.

Could you perhaps elaborate CP?

What particular joint or lack thereof makes the other transformations impossible?

Sorry, I'm not following you. Gigatron is Hasbro isn't it? And if they didn't come up with them how did they get in the instructions? I don't have the white toy - the extra modes are in the instructions, aren't they?

Gigatron is Takara's doing, and since they designed the molds they came up with the extra modes. However Hasbro apparently used the Devil Gigatron mold (white and black) instead of the Gigatron mold (purple). For their releases of both R.I.D Megatron and Galvatron.

The point here is everybody claims Takara's Gigatron mold (purple) can't transform into the additional molds that Devil Gigatron and Hasbro's American releases of both characters can.

But nobody has given a reason. I have yet to here from anybody that owns an original Takara Gigatron if it really truly lacks a joint that prevents it from transforming into the additional modes.

EDIT: Searched a bit online and found this:

Dave wrote: Four new "official" modes are given in the transformation instructions,
which continue the multichanger trend of being a grand tour of modes rather
than trying to include all the possible "mode N to mode M" instructions (of
which there are 45 for 10 modes, assuming my brain hasn't been fried by all
the box-shifting and driving I've done today). Three of these modes (pardon
if I get the names wrong, my net connection has been down for an hour as I
type this, so I can't look them up), the GigaPegasus, GigaBird and
GigaHydrofoil, can be made using the regular Gigatron. However, the
GigaElephant requires a new tab and slot arrangement molded into Devil
Gigatron. The base of the "thumb" piece (I tend to think in terms of
GigaHand) locks into the middle of the wing piece. Regular Gigatron can be
put in the GigaElephant shape, but it's less stable because of the lack of
this remold.

Si I guess basically the lack of the tab makes the nose just fall down and not lock into place for Elephant mode. Otherwise it seems, Gigatron can actually transform into all the modes that Devil Gigatron can.

All of the original "Car Robots 2000" molds were designed by Takara not Hasbro. The Build Team,JRX Fire Convoy,God Magnus and Gigatron were some [if not all] of the original molds used in that toy line.

So it was Takara that designed and released Gigatron first. The mold was later retooled [added extra 4 modes] and repainted [white] and renamed Devil Gigatron.

When Hasbro imported [almost 2 years later] "Car Robots" to the U.S. [and its other markets] they used the Devil Gigatron mold for both RID Megatron and RID Galvatron figures.

So yes Takara had and used both molds close to 2 years before Hasbo got their hands on them.
