Real vs KO Masterpieces......

I was browsing through youtube and I came across a video of a guy comparing a Real vs a KO optimus Prime. I was browsing ebay because I want to start with a Megatron but I haven't seen it at a retailer in stock. I saw some on ebay for a fair price (Not the $20 from China ones) but I am concerned with how legit they are. Any info on where to buy or what to be aware of so that I do not buy a KO would be much appreciated.

As far as I know, there are no KO MP Megatron. MP-10, yup. No trailers. Beware ebay China vendors as the Autobot cars are widely KOed.

I'm trying to find info on 3rd party or Kfc hands for optimus prime mp10, I only saw one rating and it didn't really say much only gave them three stars and I would like to know if there worth my time or not thanks.

If you keep on supporting those piece of cr@p.........what incentive will Tomy have then to make more? :BANG_HEAD:

3rd party, sure it's a gray area but knowingly purchasing FAKES is just WRONG (I had a KO G1 Devastator because he wasn't given the Encore treatment but when it was, I have both 20 and 20A versions now).....and don't go about how expensive the originals are.........this IS an EXPENSIVE hobby.

I'll just repeat this:

If you keep on supporting those piece of cr@p.........what incentive will Tomy have then to produce more?

No incentive..........no profit......then no new molds to design........sure you save a few coins but long term.........where does that leave us collectors?

Buying KOs of new, existing product when the genuine pieces are in stock at retailers does nothing but hurt the hobby in the long run. It may be in a very small way, but that's just a fact. I'm not going to say what's right or wrong, your moral compass is your own.

Also, man, I can't imagine resorting to that when the real thing is maybe $20-$30 more. It's a fake - maybe a really good one, but a fake. Your MP shelf has fake stuff on it.

Guys, can we leave the whole ethics of KO's for another day and place, and stick to the original topic?

As mentioned before, MP-10 and the Cars (Lambor, Tigertrack and Prowl I think) have been KO'ed or, we suspect, even over produced under the counter. Fortunately, you can identify at least a first-run Lambor KO by the face: instead of the regular face it uses the Alert face as it's based on Tigertrack, which uses a hybird head (Lambor's helmet and Alert's face). Another sign is that the red is all paint, over yellow plastic again from being based on Tigertrack.

A good thing to do is stick with reputable stores and resellers but keep in mind not even they can tell if it's a KO when sold used. Also, as far as I know only the TakaraTomy versions have been KO'ed so far the Hasbro versions are all legit.

You can get more answers in the Unofficial Transformers: 3rd Party & KO forum.

I think folks have said their peace on it. That said, conversations on discussion boards like this can evolve. Don't have to always stick to the original topic every time if the conversation that's happened doesn't support sticking to it.

Anyway, didn't come here to post that. I did learn today that Smokescreen has been KO'd now: http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product ... 12978.html

Yeah i was just putting in my 2 cents to the OP about KO's i just got a KO Smokescreen and i'm more than happy with it.I didnt realize it upset some of you guys so much, but i'm trying to understand your feelings as well.Isnt there anything Takara/Tomy can do about those selling them? If they stop them, then theres no opportunity for consumers to buy them.

I think I still going to buy the hands I got a K.O. Tigertracks and considering getting a official Prowl, but still might consider the K.O. version instead. Only reason I'm considering the hands for optimus cause his finger comes off, seriously and this is suppose to be a actual genuine TRU version not a K.O. Knock off, and yes I've heard some horror stories online that some people got some crappy molds and broken arms but what do you expect. Ya never know I might collect both for the fun of it lol.

Yo adappj28, if I got to OT over this, I'm sorry too. As I mentioned, I too purchased a KO when the original wasn't available but has since stop doing so. If KO has a good purpose (because Tomy won't commit big sums to restore a mold), they make good spare parts.

Hopefully you'll be able to get a hold on the real McCoy..........you won't regret it.

Now as to check the authenticity of a fig...........it's getting harder to know. Even the holograms/seal on Lambor look like the real thing. Heck, even the boxes look like the real thing..........probably using the stolen master negatives from the same printing company that manufactures the boxes ( I know about the box negatives because a cousin of mine supplies the official boxes for such items like Horie, Paris Hilton perfumes etc)

It'd be good if the KOs are sold with an indicator or something because, as adppj228 mentioned, it was cheaper right? But some despicable(?) or hoodwinked vendors sell the item at par with the real McCoy..............now again, that's wrong.

So unless the ebay vendor is a reputable source, avoid those like the plague.

Again, if only the vendors will assure you, the buyer, that the item is a "repro"/ KO, it would be, sort off, OK. But if KO keep increasing in the market, who would be the loser then?
