Repainting transformers...should it be done?

First off, sorry if this should be in the TF:general or TF:Movie, as its about the movie line.

Anyway, does anyone re-paint their stuff? Should I do it, is their anything that will stop me doing this? I'm possibly going to repaint the deluxe Brawl. The main reason is, I hate the current neon green with grey, and I want it to look slightly like a real tank. That, and the fact I got him for £5.00.
Are there any parts I should avoid going over? Like the head? What types of paint should I use? The only paints I have are Games Workshop's paints and Humbrol/Airfix paints, so would those be ok? Anyone know if DA green or Catachan Green would be good?

And finaly, does anyone have any good, big photos of Brawl (or websites with these), as I want to get the colour and the camo just right - in the pics I've seen so far, I can't tell if he has grey/black camo on him.

Thanks, sorry if this is in the wrong place,
RR

first off the best place to ask this question would be in the kitbash forum http://www.seibertron.com/energonpub/viewforum.php?f=9
and yes you should paint transformers some of them are not happy unless you do. as for paints and what to paint that is really up to you and what you want to do. the best advice i can give is to study the kitbash forum go back page after page and read the posts, there is a lot of great painters with some truly awsome works of art in there. Just do your research. Good luck painting.

It's a toy which you purchased. I'd hate to think that anyone should tell you how to play with your toys. Go ahead and throw some paint on him if you want to.

I use sharpis they look good, and can be removed with a little nail polish remover. Also they don't ruin the play value, as I can still fiddel around with em from time to time and not worry about smudging it up. I think repainting a figure is good because it adds a personel touch to all your tfs. It makes your tfs different from any other. And that just makes me feel good. Every new tf I get now makes me think to myself; how can I make this look better? I'll havta post pics of em. I just gotta get my bros cam first :?

Thanks guys.
I repainted Brawl this afternoon and it took about an hour. I haven't repainted all of his robot mode, its too complicated!
I used GW paints, and he looks like a real tank - dark green cammo with grey and black.
Just to make it that liitle bit more realistic, I found a list of M1 Abrams that were scrapped in the '90s and 2000 and rebuilt into M1A2 Abrams, so now my Brawl has taken on the identity of a scrapped tank - well, he was hiding in a tank grave yard in the film...
My next project: melting and cutting brawl to have realistic damage...or not

I'll have to post a few photos of him to show you, I think he looks pretty good now. All I need now is a good camera....
Thanks
RR

How are the GW paints, RailRider? I have them, and they haven't exactly been nice to me when I repaint some of my other toys. Do they stick to Transformers well?
