Forgive me if I missed an existing thread.

Just got back from seeing this. First reaction: "Wait, Planet of the apes is out already?" #-o Made time for it and I enjoyed it. Was surprised at how much I got into this, especially the bits where it was just the apes. It's the Wall-E effect, where having no dialogue somehow makes it easier to follow and understand. Go figure.

Love how they threw in touches to set up the other movies. the Mars mission lost in space, the virus dropping humanity like Flies making room for the apes, etc.

Anyone else catch this yet?
Next up on Pimp My Jeager.

Not Yet, but I plan to this Tuesday. My local theater runs a promotion on Tuesdays on popcorn and drinks for $1 apiece. At first I was mixed about this, but I really liked Tim Burton's movie so I will go see this one. I also liked the original, but not the sequels...

^Agree, definitely my favorite part of the movie. A kid in the audience even went whoa, Malfoy, you're screwed! Surprisingly also, was that the movie had a more older crowd, mostly retirees, and they seemed to genuinely love it. It's nice to have a movie without the flamboyant sex and cussing going on.

Agreed. I think i heard three cuss words total. That's still unnecessary, but it's better than most movies nowadays.

This movie was fantastic.

I loved the way they focused on Caesar more than Will. Like in Transformers, they focused on Sam more than they did the Autobots. The movie was supposed to be about the chimp, and it was.

The 'damn dirty ape' scene was actually a nod to the 2001 version, where one ape said to the main character 'Get your hands off me you damn dirty human!'

I have to say, Caesar was a CGI milestone. My favorite scene was the bridge scene, which also used fantastic CGI.

This is a great setup for a new franchise.

I like DOTM, but my favorite movies of the year are Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Super 8 and Captain America. Those movies had a charm, and certain aspects of the main characters that I just adored, that was missing in DOTM. Closest thing that I could think of as charming characters in DOTM would be Brains and Wheelie! We needed more of that with the Transformers, not just them doing cool things and speaking the obvious. I'd like the next movie to explore just a little bit on what they think of their new home, and how they feel to being in second in command on the planet.

I always thought that get your dirty hands off of me is a reference to the franchise and is as old as Optimus saying "Let's roll". Also, I was never a fan of the old movies, but I have noticed people claiming there were several nods to the old franchise throughout the movie. The dirty hands was just one of them.

I still love NO! I'll leave it at that. That part I didn't see coming. I also love the orangutang, he was too cute! The look on Caesar's face when he knew he did something wrong when trying to protect the dad, was just unbelievable, in a good way. I wanted to hug him too! I also loved it how the Apes tried really hard not to kill people. I love horses, and I was so sure a couple of them were going to be killed, but it was refreshing to see the Ape just stop the horse from landing on him by placing a hand on the horse's chest. And I loved it when Caesar had his Calvary Charge!

Harry Potter aside (because it was always going to win by default) ... this would easily be movie of the year for me.

Frankly when Oscar nominations roll around, I want to see Caesar nominated for Best Actor.

I feel sorry for Tom Felton though, spent years playing a douchebag, and his first role out of Harry Potter and he still plays a douchebag. Image

The Emmy's are for TV. It's the Oscars he will be nominated for.

Notice that I used the word 'will.'

I guess TF is good at playing a douchebag.

And it's not just that. The movie was totally predictable. I never saw the originals, so IDK if they have a connection in diologue, but I knew what everyone was going to say before they said it. I knew everything that was going to happen before it happened. At least DOTM had creative diologue. "Raise your hand if you had a psyco ninja copier try to kill you today!" See? Who would have thought of that? I certainly didn't. But in this movie, I knew everything before it happened. That's what made it boring for me. But I did still like it though. It's hard to make me not like a movie.

Exactly. That movie teased me. It showed images of robots, and there was only about 1 (small)explosion the entire movie. Even the story was ass. There's no way in hell abandoning earth will be a bad thing! Plus the only time I laughed the entire movie was when all those fat people where rolling down the side of the ship. My family and I feel asleep watching that movie in theaters. I wasted my 13th birthday on that crap. At least that's the day I got Animated Voyager Optimus.

Not a nod to the 2001 version. A nod to the original with Charlton Heston. He spoke these exact words: "Take your stinking paws off me, you damn dirty ape!"

All other movies after it were influenced by the first film. Nothing homages remakes, sequels or reboots, just the original.

No. That time, there wasn't much I wanted besides a few TF Animated figs. ANd I went to see DOTM for my birhtday this year because...it was freaking Transformers on my birthday. I did the same with ROTF too though. I saw it opening night, then again for my birthday.

Finally saw this a couple of days ago and it's awesome. I'm a huge fan of the original series, especially Escape and Conquest, not so much the Burton version, and was very pleased that Rise managed to do it's own thing and give the new continuity a great launch platform while paying it's dues to the original movies. I'm really looking forward to as many sequels as they can throw at us.
