Which they did. They streamlined the armor and darkened the color. Not a whole lot you can do with the original Robocop design, it's pretty nondescript as far as armor goes.

Not to mention that this actually looks like armour and not some steroided out weight lifter parody.

Sounds like the new design is missing the point of Robocop, then.

The point of Robocop is to be some 'roided-out meathead in pots-and-pans armor?

No, the point of it is to be satire. Trying to look all cool and sleek goes against the spirit of it unless it's only so that they may include lots of cheesy and shallow marketing slogans etc.

Right, it was a satire of '80s movies and style. You might notice it's currently not the '80s. Ergo, if they aren't going to play it straight (Which most people don't realize the original didn't) then it's most likely going to be a satire of modern movies and style.

The only problem, really, is that satire is dead.

So it's gotta be either Batman without a cape or The Mech-Situation?

Don't get me wrong, I'm used to it being different now, and I do (and did) get the fact that the original poked fun at the image-craze of the 80s, being bulky and huge, but I still like the older version better. I do understand why they changed it, but I don't have to like it.

Riiiiiight. Satire, an entire facet of humor, has died. Do you want to back that up or am I to assume you're just making things up?

If it is going for modern-day satire, then yeah, black suits and armor, and reality TV would be on the chopping block.

Soldiers watch Apocalypse Now and Full Metal jacket because they contain rockin war scenes that get them pumped up. The Reagan campaign tried to use Springsteen's "Born in the USA". Obama brags about helping destroy the economic stability of the Iranian people in the same ways that killed hundreds of thousands of children in Iraq and is believed to be the lenient, progressive option in today's politics. I could write a more extensive list but this is exhausting to even think about.

Satire is dead because you can't come up with anything that is more awful and clownish than actual current affairs. Whatever you try to do will also be taken and presented at face value by considerable amounts of people.

Then satire has been dead since our ancestors learned to communicate. So if it died at it's own creation did it ever exist?

So basically, satire, a form of humor built around sardonic jabs at current events and society, is dead because not everyone will get the joke. By that logic, all humor is dead. I'm going to go ahead and start ignoring you now.

That was only half of what I said. You don't address the depressing pointlessness of satire that can't ridicule because the reality is fully ridiculous from the start. Take a look at this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... 0OomdFloKI

This is real. It's real! You don't think it is. I don't want to think it is. I want to think that it's a particularly well-done Onion hoax. This is more absurd than comedy. Faced with this, what do you even do? What use is satire now, both as entertainment and as a tactic?

...I have no idea what you just said, or how any of this means satire can't be done anymore. Pretty sure the twenty Emmy Awards won between the Daily Show and the Colbert Report would beg to differ.

I think he's saying the world at large is doing a damn good job of satirizing itself. Like that political ad, it's supposed to be in favor of that farmer lady, but all it did was show that the other guy is better educated and more experienced. How do you make fun of that?

Run a similar ad, portraying Politician A as a saint-like super-genius and possibly the second coming of Christ, and Politician B as a child molester, Satanist, and crack dealer, ending with "Vote for Politician B!" It's not rocket science. Just because the world is stupid doesn't mean you can't make fun of it.

The movie itself looks like it'll be good, but I still don't like the black suit. The other one looks ok though, but what's up with that exposed hand? Did they not finish the costume in time? If his hand was undamaged in that explosion why not throw a gauntlet on it? That's a more obvious weak spot than Gohma's eye.

That hand pisses me completely, it ruins the look of the body.

I mean seriously, the hand survived well enough, but they couldn't salvage the rest of that arm? Only that hand?

It makes the whole thing look so completely stupid.

Other than that the movie looks pretty good, but damn that stupid hand.

What I thought, word for word. Still gonna see it. And I think Sam Jackson has his next memorable line: "This is the future of American justice."

Went and saw it today and I have to admit, it was pretty good.

For a remake it actually stays very true to the original source material, yes, there are some differences (Lewis has gone from being a white woman to a black man), but it takes the story and gives if a polish.

Definitely worth seeing.
