I not crazy about the new robocop suit (as the pics show it) myself. I have my oddball idea about what new Robocop should like? I actually think Robocop should should be either basically like the 80's version (just say the creators were Robotech junkies) or should actually have Robocop look like a normal human being. The human-looking Robocop suit would be camoflague for him among the crowd. All the weapons would be hidden (like the gun in the leg) until needed. Heck any future cyborg might be likely to have polymer- based armor instead of metal anyway, so might as well give Robocop some fake skin to go over the armor, add some clothing, and voila an android disguised as a man.

I don't think the ED-209 mock ups look too bad. Yeah it kinda uses the standard "Bayformer robot" design and reminds me of Metal Gear Rex, but it still haas the chicken leg feet.

What would be fantastic is if they had at least one scene for the new ED-209 that used Go-motion animation, like the original. It does look a little herky jerky but I love it so much more than CGI because it takes a lot of skill to pull it off, and plus they're manipulating something that's actually physically "real".

The irony of stop-motion is that it's a physical object that somehow ends up looking less real than CGI. Look at the original Terminator. The animatronics look really great, but when it showed a full-body shot of the terminator sans-skin, it looked hilariously out of place.

To each their own. Modern CG does blend into films far better than stop-motion ever did I will admit but stop motion has a charm of it's own I can't help but love.

I hadn't seen Robot Jox in years, and since it was on youtube, I decided to give it a watch before replying.

Overall, not a great film, but it does have a B-movie charm to it. Not a whole lot of stop-motion was used overall, but practical effects were abound, and I for one think they've held up pretty well. And quick aside, I do wonder if it served as a sort of inspiration for G-Gundam, cause they share a few ideas.

However, like all things, there's good use of effects and bad use of effects. So this:

and this:

(Yes, I'll admit Kong looks goofy) are just as valid in my eyes as this:

Not that there's anything wrong with CGI, I just prefer practical effects mixed with CGI over pure CGI.

And good CGI is a whole lot more expensive than practial effects. Last month Carlo Rambaldi, creator of E.T., passed away. I read about it in the paper, and this quote(also found here: http://www.altfg.com/blog/movie/carlo-rambaldi-et-oscar/ ), was mentioned:

An old-school mechatronics master, Carlo Rambaldi remained unimpressed by digital techniques. “Digital costs around eight times as much as mechatronics [a mix of mechanical and electronic engineering],” Rambaldi was quoted as having once said in the Rome daily La Repubblica. “E.T. cost a million dollars and we created it in three months. If we wanted to do the same thing with computers, it would take at least 200 people a minimum of five months.”

I saw it when I was a kid, loved it ever since. Got the DVD. Theme song still kicks ass. I saw some shirts with Alexander's Kovalevski-42 and the phrase "We can live. We can both live." on them. Gonna get 1 soon.

I don't know about this... it looks like Batman using a helmet from TRON... BATMATRON! ;) hopefully it's just a prototype or like mentioned before cgi stuff, only time will tell, either way I'm sure I'll see the movie when it comes out, Robocop is so cool, I remember being a kid and wanting to have robotic parts like him... haha, now that I think about it, it wouldn't be cool...
