Personally, I'm pretty stoked on a lot of these announcements.

The First Edition rerelease is major win as there was no way I was going to pay scalper prices for Prime, Bulkhead or Zombie CJ.

I was actually starting to wonder if we were going to get a FoC Grimlock at all, so it's cool to see he's getting such an awesome looking figure. Unfortunately, I doubt we'll get any more of the Dinobots, but hey maybe we'll get lucky.

Blaster looks pretty awesome too so I may get him since I'm skipping Voyager Soundwave. I already have the WFC version, so no need to double dip there.

And I don't know why, but I kinda want that Dark Energon Megatron.

If they rerelease the first edition in the First Edition packages I shall be mighty peeved at Hasbro.

I paid a fair bit for those FE figures I really wanted and to have all of that undermined will make me think twice about buying anything alleged to be rare again.

I admit that when they were first cancelled I was as annoyed as anyone else that really liked them but it took Hasbro SO long to announce these re-issues that I caved and paid the extra.

Multiple failures from Hasbro on this I think, from my point of view anyway.

In all fairness, they did say that they were "Trying to do something about it" every time they were asked. I doubt anybody would blame you for picking them up, but you can't say you didn't have any warning.

It's just part of the game of collecting. I've heard arguments like yours above so many times over the years. Imagine how fans felt when it was announced that there would be *gasp* reissues of original G1 figures in replica packaging.

The value of the First Edition toys is/was extremely inflated because of the high demand for those items. Hasbro has said all along that they would try to find a home for those items at some point.

My biggest concern is that because of collectors like Ravage XK, myself and anyone else who had already bought the First Editions, is that those toys will now just become shelf warmers because it took so long for this issue to be resolved.

That there, is a good point. Though maybe the Vehicons will fair better than others.

So long as there is a difference, maybe not calling them First Editions but something else. I'm fairly sure the G1 reissues came in a different box.

That way, those items we collectors paid out a bit more for remain a bit special.

Same packaging. No difference. It's advisable to hold out hope for differences. Only ones that should be upset about the value of these are collectors at themselves for paying too much money. The only thing you'll be able to take away on getting these early is that you paid to have them that much earlier than you could get them here in the States at retail. Hasbro did the right thing here and has been saying since last February that they would find a way to get these out to us.

Well considering the FE re-releases we've seen so far have a new head, I'd say they are different enough.

As for the G1 re-issues... Some have had different packagingm other's like encore feature the g1 packaging, with certain differences such as the Encore logo.

You're thinking of the First Edition remolds (Cliffjumper and Bulkhead) that are being released in the "China Imports" Generations line as G1 Cliffjumper and Brawn. The Transformers Prime First Edition toys are coming back as Toys R Us exclusives later this year.

And while you're correct about the reissues, I'm specifically referring to the initial reissues that came in pretty similar packaging (such as Optimus Prime, Sixshot, Hot Rodimus, Ultra Magnus, etc). But the argument stands nonetheless ... fans trying to hold onto the value of their "collectibles" after the parent company does something that devalues those collectibles.

One counterpoint to the "Hasbro has said that they've been trying something to get them out," argument is that they said the same thing about the final Animated figures that were finished, but have yet to do so.

While TakaraTomy has released three of those finished figures, Hasbro said they were trying to but have not.

There's also the issue with DOTM Wheeljack, both Soundwaves, and Autobot Team Racers (which includes Leadfoot).

This probably won't happen, but I think all of the examples you've listed above would be a good fit for a line called "Generations". A mix of various lines, when appropriate, new figures, and maybe even some reissues. I can only hope that sprinkling these types of releases under a banner that doesn't have the stigma of a terminated line would not cause retailers to cutback on orders, while still giving those not at all interested in these figures viable alternatives (the other wave mates) to spend money on.

An idea which has been brought up countless times, but, well, in the case of the final Animated figures, it's been three years and nothing's come about for this idea. :-(

I can't understand why you'd be upset if they're in the original packaging, really.
I paid more than a fair bit for mine and I don't give a crap as to whether or not they come in the same packaging. I don't buy these as investments, these are toys. Toys gain and lose value all the time, every day. That's the nature of the beast. I came to terms with that long ago.

But, I do agree that this was failtastic on Hasbro's part. Hasbro's done nothing right since January of '11, really. The whole year was just pure crap on their part.

RAcast wrote:In all fairness, they did say that they were "Trying to do something about it" every time they were asked. I doubt anybody would blame you for picking them up, but you can't say you didn't have any warning.

Hasbro's always saying "We're looking into other options" or "We're trying to get those out" and this is the ONE time they've actually come through, that I can remember. One time. Actually, it was fair to say we had no warning. HFTD Rumble and Frenzy? Promises, promises, nada. DOTM tailenders? Promises, Promises, nada. (Heck, they haven't even been released in Asia as promised.) Animated? Don't even get people started on that one. So...for the past 2-3 years, nothing but broken promises and a bunch of bull$#!7 excuses that people are sick and tired of.

So, the fact that they ARE reissuing F.E. is nothing short of a miracle. However...it's not the holiday season, yet. Until they actually come to the shelves and we hold them in hand, there's no reason to sing Hasbro's praises, just yet. They could end up pulling them at the last minute and give some lame excuse.

Getting laughed at should never be part of the game of collecting. Quite frankly, I'm rather disappointed by this post. *smh* I know what you're trying to say, but it didn't quite work out that way. Sure, some of the figures were devalued, no doubt, however, most of the originals still go for a pretty penny, reissue or not. There are plenty of purist collectors who desire the REAL originals and not some brand new reissue. Those collectors make that world go 'round. People stopped complaining about G1 Vs. Reissues. F.E. Vs. Reissues is slightly different. What cost people an arm and a leg then, is supposedly coming out for much, much less, now. It's the same toy, same packaging, not your standard reissue. It would be like finding a warehouse full of G1 figures and selling them at MSRP instead of inflation.

Seibertron wrote:The value of the First Edition toys is/was extremely inflated because of the high demand for those items. Hasbro has said all along that they would try to find a home for those items at some point.

As I stated above, we have NEVER been able to trust Hasbro in recent years. I won't ask you to see what I'm saying, because you're kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to being a board owner, but my point is very valid, and I can't wait for them to let people down, again.

Seibertron wrote:My biggest concern is that because of collectors like Ravage XK, myself and anyone else who had already bought the First Editions, is that those toys will now just become shelf warmers because it took so long for this issue to be resolved

I certainly hope they don't become shelfwarmers. Everyone deserves a good, solid, First Edition Optimus and Bulkhead. Their PRID versions just don't hold a candle. It's great that PRID is playable, while FE is more collectible, but PRID doesn't please everyone, and I can't blame those who don't like 'em. I hope the FEs sell like hot cakes, I hope Hasbro learns a lesson from this. I hope Hasbro stops sucking. I'm hoping for things that won't come to pass.

I'm disgusted by Hasbro, I can't stand them much anymore.

They're toys, not collectibles. :BANG_HEAD:

Think about and treat them as such and you're unlikely to ever have the need to be upset… except for not be able to find them because "collectors" are hoarding them to sell at inflated prices.

That is all. >:oP
