The beam of light struck the ground, slowly pulling away to reveal an assortment of Decepticons.

Oil Slick glanced around, taking readings from his air analyzer with interest as he shook off the disorientation of bouncing. There were a variety of pollutants in the atmosphere, along with and abundance of moisture, due in part to the proximity to the high salt content water nearby. High concentrations of both would be needed to do any immediate harm to Cybertronian life. He filed the information away for future reference before transforming to his alternate mode.

*

Hook grunted as he materialized, never liking the disorientation. He always feared that it was throwing off some of his delicate internal systems. Some day he would figure out a way to removes those effects. For now though he had bigger and more immediate projects. He transformed to his crane mode and impatiently waited to get going.

Scavenger staggered around for a few seconds, feeling somewhat dizzy from the bounce. Just as he gained his bearings he was looking down at the ground. Out of instinct he looked carefully at the ground, which was sandy with a lot of small rocks scattered around.

"Ooh, shiny!", the mining and salvage specialist exclaimed as he noticed some nice looking rocks- possibly gems as far as he knew.

We won't need these for the base, but maybe Starscream would like them for a crown.

Scavenger got down and scooped up some of the sand and rocks with his hand, carefully putting it into a small storage comparment. Satisfied with his find, he noticed some of the others transforming into their alternate modes. Scavenger followed suit and converted into his excavator mode.

"What are your orders, Scrapper?"

Off the Western shore of the Korean peninsula

The jolt of the Orbital Bounce did little to improve Scrappers mood. He paused a moment to reset his internals, and once again bit down his anger at the maddening situation. Megatron missing and presumed dead by almost everyone, Starscream in charge because of Motormasters posturing, and then to have Baneblade treat him and the Constructicons like dirt....

Scrapper walked to get a better look at the ocean of this muddy planet. It seemed like megacycles since they'd gone hunting in the wilds of Canada for Megatrons sample of Ore-13, and even then, Scrapper had wondered how any intelligent life had developed on such a rugged waste of a world. Looking out at all the water, and mud, and sucking in dirty air, it seemed almost impossible to make anything of this...

But we are the Constructicons, and nothing is impossible for us! We'll show those fools on that ship what we're made of!

"The first thing we do is make a full inventory of what we have. Scavenger, find us a cave, or dig one with Bonecrusher if its easier. We figure out how much of Mixmaster and Oilslicks equipment is robust enough to take under the water, to minimise the chance of human contact. Then we begin construction of a scaffold, possibly with a watertight membrance to make things easier down there. Once thats done we can really begin."

He turns to the two chemists. "We're low on metals and I don't want to wait for those boors to deign to send us any. Scavenger will find some given time, but in the meantime, how much polymer can you manufacture? It should be enough for the scaffold, at least."

After the bright light that accompanied the bounce had receded Darkride steadied himself for a moment before the slight vertigo finally faded. A slight smirk was etched on his face as he moved past Long Haul and Bonecrusher to get a closer look at the body of water that bordered the land mass they were all standing on. The briny stench mixed with the fumes of the carbon monoxide in the atmosphere may have put off the others in the group, but the sadistic interrogator found it rather appropriate.

It was then that Scavenger chimed in and asked his Commander what their orders were. When Scrapper responded to the desperate excavator, Darkride flashed Scavenger a devious smile before he turned his glance to Mixmaster and Oil Slick. Since he was not assigned a task at the moment he decided to simply help the two chemists with sorting through their equipment. He was used to handling dangerous chemicals; his past dealings with Oil Slick assured him of that.

The interrogator slunk past Hook and Scrapper and stopped next to his old acquaintance.

“What in your arsenal could we possibly use to create this polymer, and how long will it take to create the metals we’ll need to build our new HQ?”

Mixmaster took an astrosecond or two to allow his internal circuitry to recalibrate itself after the bounce. It always felt sort of tingly and weird afterwards. He liked it. He had certainly experienced worse things.

Once his systems checked out, he proceeded to begin inventorying his equipment, just as Scrapper had instructed.

“I should have enough monomer materials to form the necessary covalent bonds. Oil Slick surely isn’t lacking either. I packed just about everything we could take. Heheh, no sense in leaving anything of value on board the Stunticons’ little cyber-rathole.

Long Haul materialized alongside his comrades as the bounce beam then receded back into the skies above. The usual feeling of disorientation was not as bad for him since he was already in his alt mode and had all four tires firmly on the beach helping to stabilize him. They sunk slightly into the deep sand as the weird sensation quickly left his circuitry, allowing him to completely focus on what Scrapper was now saying. Taking inventory was a good idea and the green transport had even more equipment and tools stored in his truck bed.

The green-colored dump truck rolled towards Scrapper, kicking up a bit of sand behind him as he went. “Hey, boss, I might have some materials for the scaffolding in my rear section. I’ll transform and go through everything to see what we can use.”

Long Haul then slowly raised his truck bed up and allowed the equipment that he was carrying to gently slide out and on to the beach. He subsequently assumed his robot mode and knelt down in front of the pile, pulling out a data pad in order to catalogue each tool. He had welding torches, laser drills, cyber wrenches, balancers and a variety of nuts and bolts that would certainly come in handy during the early phases of construction. He quickly made a comprehensive list, noting the number of each item that he had on hand. It was amazing how much he could store within his truck bed, especially when a little subspace cheating was involved.

Once he had everything in order, Long Haul passed the data pad over to Scrapper. “Here ya go, boss. Got lots of useful stuff here to help us build the scaffolding. I should also be able to extend an air tight covering over my truck bed so that the equipment doesn’t float away or get water logged during our decent to the sea floor.”

Scavenger tried to ignore the look he was getting from Darkride. Apparently the excavator's earlier threat back on the Ultrax had done little to intimidate the interrogator. For now at least, Scavenger could forget about him. He and his creepy friend were Mixmaster's problem, and Scavenger had his own orders to follow.

Find a cave.... Find a cave....

Scavenger looked around. There were many hills in the area, but the nearest mountain was many miles away, probably too far away. As the excavator drove into some of the larger hills he activated his shovel's sensors, scanning the geological formation of the area.

Come on, come on, there's gotta be a hole or a tunnel I can use around here.

After a few minutes of scanning, Scavenger was disappointed to find the area was competely solid- no caverns, no tunnels, nothing that he could use. It looked like he would have to start things from scratch.

"Nothing nearby that's already made, Scrapper. Looks like we're gonna have to dig one out.", the mining-and-salvage specialist reported.

Scavenger scanned again, this time focusing on the geological composition, searching for minerals that would be sturdy enough. Eventually he came to a small hill that was surrounded by several larger hills, about 300 meters away from the shore. Scavenger was certain he had found a good spot and already started to break ground.

<<Bonecrusher, I've found a good place to dig. Can you come over here and give me a hand?>>

Bonecrusher had materialized with several tons worth of various equipment he was still carrying around for Mixmaster. Needless to say, he was fuming. Mixmaster however didn't seem to understand the situation. He would though. Sooner or later, the demolitions expert would have his revenge. First he had to deal with Scavenger's message. >>"I ain't moving a single servo until Scrapper gives the order! And weren't we supposed to build underwater anyhow?!"<<

Having replied to Scavenger's transmission, Bonecrusher finally decided to ask help from Long Haul.

"Long Haul! Do me a favor let me load this pile on junk on your truck bed!" Bonecrusher bellowed, still clearly enraged towards Mixmaster. "I need to introduce my fist to Mixmaster's face!"

At the sound of his name, Long Haul turned away from Scrapper and looked over at Bonecrusher, who was inundated with the mother load of the equipment. Whatever pittance the green transport had been carrying, it was nothing compared to what his clearly angry comrade was forced to lug around for Mixmaster. Long Haul didn’t understand why the demolitions expert hadn’t asked for help sooner, but that didn’t matter now. It was better late than never.

“No problem, ‘Crusher,” he responded to his teammate with a nod. “Just let me reload what I have on the beach here and I’ll be right over.” Moments later, Long Haul had reached down and scooped up his own equipment from the sand before transforming back into his dump truck mode, allowing the tools to carefully slide into his rear bed once more. Once that task was accomplished, the Constructicon transport rolled over to Bonecrusher’s position on the beach and backed up to the pile of ‘junk’ as his comrade had called it. “Okay, ‘Crusher, I’m all set. Load your stuff in whenever you're ready.”

Off the Western shore of the Korean peninsula

Scrapper nods at Mixmaster and Long Haul. "Excellent. You've shown the preparedness that got you on this team, as expected." In fact, Scrapper felt a little guilty for not having brought something himself, in his haste to leave. Then again, he was prepared in other ways.

He pulls out the datapad and begins working. "I'd estimate the main body of the Submersible would have to be 300 meters long, in order to incorporate sufficient engines, and room for the crew." And some lab space... "To this we can then add a construction module, which will then build additional storage, habitation and weapons modules. So the scaffold would have to scale to build the initial body, once it is complete the rest will be simple."

Then Bonecrushers growls alerted him to another situation. "Bonecrusher, calm down. We're all on edge, we've all been jerked around by these events. Now, I'm asking for a cave to be dug as temporary storage, no more. If Long Haul thinks he can carry everything without risk of water damage, thats fine. But ultimately, its our two chemists that make the call, whether they can work underwater or if we need to make the scaffold first."

Truth be told, Scrapper didn't have much hope of Mixmaster escaping without a dent in his faceplate, and the Constructicon leader didn't much care. He would certainly care if it became a fullfledged fight, however.

Oil Slick watched silently as the Constructicons began to divide up per Scrapper’s orders, taking a moment to transform back to robot mode. When the Constructicon asked him about his chemicals and equipment he nodded. “I should have adequate materials to construct the scaffolding you require. Some of my equipment, such as injectors, will function underwater. However the mixing of chemicals would be more difficult while submerged.”

He knelt down to pick up a handful of sand and rocks. “If I may make a suggestion, we may be able to save on our own materials by using native ones as much as possible in non-critical areas. I believe Mixmaster and myself can create a bonding element to form a crude concrete using local sand and rocks. It could function as a primitive road to the cave and into the water or whatever else you would require. We could even use pulverized rock from digging a cave.”

The chemist stood up and looked at Darkride as he asked him which equipment they would be using. It was an interesting change to be making chemicals for constructive purposes rather then destructive ones. He could see the appeal in it, although he still preferred his own projects. “I will need this pump set up to distill the water in the sea for use both directly and as a cooling agent.” He began selecting some chemicals from a case he had brought with him. Using polymers meant that it would be a very temporary structure, especially given the conditions, but he would still attempt to make it a solid one.

*

Hook transformed back to robot mode as Scrapper gave out orders. It seemed that he had been a bit overeager in wanting to get moving. Naturally the grunts would have to set up the basis for the rest of them to do their more delicate and important work. It was the way things always went. The fact that Bonecrusher was already itching for a fight only reinforced that. This is why they kept the lesser Constructicons doing work like smashing things or digging. Their simpler minds and clumsy hands were best suited to that and away from the vital work he would do later on.

Finally something was going to Bonecrusher's way. The irritating flyboys of Thundercracker had already spread out to guard their perimeter and Long Haul was not objecting to do his job. Happily loading the massive pile of equipment that mostly looked like junk to him on Long Haul's truck bed - Bonecrusher was finally free of his temporarily job as a cargo mule. Free to do what he did best. Free to destroy.

"Bonecrusher, calm down. We're all on edge, we've all been jerked around by these events. Now, I'm asking for a cave to be dug as temporary storage, no more. If Long Haul thinks he can carry everything without risk of water damage, thats fine. He had already began to move towards Mixmaster when Scrapper's words halted him on his tracks. He was still seething but somehow Scrapper's plea did catch his attention. Maybe it was the bad situation Decepticons on Earth were at. Maybe he was getting soft. Nevertheless, it made sense to let Mixmaster escape his hide intact this time. He did make a mental note that this was not over yet though. Oh well, at least he could blow off some steam by pulverizing some rock. One question had to be asked though.

"Can I use explosives or do we have to dig by hand boss?"

"Use your hands, or your vehicle modes, Bonecrusher. Explosions might alert the humans, and we don't want attention yet. We're not staying long, but I still want to minimise any contact with humans. They'll just complicate things, and without our base we have no facsimiles to interact with them."

Scrapper then turns to Oil Slick. "Concrete should also work. It'll be heavier to handle but we shouldn't have a problem with it. Bonecrusher always says he like hitting things until they're no taller than dust, this should be an excellent time for him to prove that."

"Okay team, most of you should have tasks to deal with. Long Haul can help either the chemists or the diggers, whoever needs him. Hook and I will be double-checking the design of the submersible base."

Scrapper indicates his second to back off from the others, to get some privacy. When they're a little distance away, he begins. "Here is my basic schematic, I think I've covered everything needed for the project. But what more might be needed? And how...secure should we make it?"

The interrogator was nothing if not adaptable. He was able to acclimate himself to any situation, whether it be ‘interviewing’ a prisoner or fabricating a new rigging to add to his never ending ensemble of torture devices. There wasn’t much that fazed him. He waited patiently as Oil Slick addressed Scrapper before turning to answer his question on which equipment they would use.

The interrogator nodded at the chemist before he grabbed the pump Oil Slick indicated and then scooped up a few more pieces of equipment. He made his way close to the water’s edge and off loaded his burden. He then went to work piecing together the distiller. He was sure to grab a few items to work in to the unit that would help with cooling when needed.

Oil slick nodded an affirmative at Scrapper as Darkride moved to assemble the distillation device. As everyone went to work he did likewise. He began setting up a chemical mixing unit and extruder. It would be enough to help create the polymers needed for the scaffolding and allow him to shape it into simple beams or boards as necessary.

The chemist made sure to look busy putting together the unit as he activated the special communications device he had brought with him. He sent out a brief message on a frequency not used by either side. It was not a particularly powerful signal, just enough to reach around the planet. Hopefully those precautions would be enough to avoid detection.

With that done he resumed working on his equipment. He attached a hose and moved to hook the other end up to the distillation device Darkride was working on. “Your work, as always, is highly efficient Darkride. Should you ever choose to do more then interrogations you would be highly apt at technical pursuits.” It was Oil Slick’s version of a compliment. “Now you can assist me in molding the solid polymers into the shapes we desire.”

*

Hook nodded as Scrapper motioned for him to follow. He quickly followed the Constructicon leader and examined his schematics. Almost out of habit he started adding in more details. Being a perfectionist and thinking quite highly of himself he had no problem ‘correcting’ his commander’s work. He paused however to consider Scrapper’s question.

“Perhaps a room not on the schematics?” He began sketching in a room that would lie below the main base. “Here, in the same room as the power generator. That will help keep it hidden from prying sensors. We can keep it small, big enough for maybe just two of us at a time. I presume it would be your or I conducting research or modifications on the other Constructicons. I’m sure more then that and it would be noticed.”

Hook looked at the schematic and frowned. “It will be cramped, but it will have to be small to go unnoticed during construction and after. We will have to lift a floor plate up and drop down and fly up to get out. It isn’t ideal, but the best I think we can hope for under these conditions.”

While Bonecrusher was happy enough to get to smash things, or stone this time - he was still somewhat disappointed about the target. Digging a cave was hardly as fun as smashing buildings to dust. And digging through solid stone without explosives wasn't nearly as fun as weakening the said rock with explosives first and then smashing through it. Oh well, we was not about to make a protest about it. It was still the job available here right now as far as he was concerned.

"Fine. No explosives." He grunted in response to Scrapper and transformed into his bulldozer mode.

Not much later the bulldozer arrived to the spot Scavenger had radioed him about earlier. Apparently the excavator had already began digging and had built up quite a pile of rock next to himself. Given that even Bonecrusher had to admit that Scavenger was more efficient digger than he was, he took upon himself to push the excavated rocks away from Scavenger so the excavator didn't run out of places to pile all the land masses he was dealing with into.

"How long until the opening is big enough for me to start to dig too?"

Scavenger was quite proud of the work he was doing. Not only was he making good progress with the cave, but as always he had found many "treasures" as well. As he kept digging he would find rocks he thought were special- perhaps they were oddly colored, or had a unique composition, or maybe they were just really shiny. Whatever the reason, Scavenger wanted to make sure he set aside anything that might be more valuable, so he made a smaller pile of these special stones and gems on the opposite side of the cave, away from the larger mounds of useless dirt and rock. To the untrained eye, or even to the trained eye it would seem to be just another pile of worthless rocks, only more colorful and shiny. But to Scavenger there was no telling how valuable they could be.

There's no telling what Scrapper and the others might do with all this! I'll bet we can use some of it for some really strong armor, or maybe even make a new energy source! Oh boy, I can't wait to show Scrapper and the others!

Suddenly, Scavenger was brought back to Earth by Bonecrusher asking him a question.

"Oh, decided to help me after all?" the excavator replied. Turning around in his excavator mode, Scavenger could tell the demolitions expert had been busy clearing up the area. Fortunately he hadn't yet moved Scavenger's special pile, which was still where the excavator had left it.

"I'll have this opening big enough for both of us in just a breem.", Scavenger replied.

He was about to start widening the opening when he stopped. He knew how Bonecrusher could sometimes, so he didn't want to take a chance of the bulldozer ruining some of his work.

"You see that pile over there?", Scavenger motioned with his shovel towards his precious finds, "Please leave it. I've got some valuable metals and gems there, and I'd like to show Scrapper when we're done with this cave."

With that Scavenger turned back around and started digging along the edges of the entrance, making it big enough for both he and Bonecrusher to work in.

Scrapper nods as he follows Hooks design. "Hmm, thats good...but still, its a little small. Eventually we're going to want all six of us to be in there at once for the final stage. I might have a better idea..."

The Constructicon Leader takes the datapad and begins modifying the design of the ship. The area Hook indicated expands and integrates into the ballast tank right below it, while a series of blisters through the sub house smaller, replacement ballast tanks in a distributed network. Now an entire section of the ship was available for their use, while the network of tanks, interference from the generator and some EM bafflers would mean it looked like nothing more than air and water to any casual scan.

"It'll mean a lot of readjustments to the structure as we work, but it should suffice. I'm sure you can adjust everything to the angstrom, in any case."

Long Haul's tires sunk down deeper into the sand as Bonecrusher loaded the ton of equipment he had been carrying into the back of the transport's truck bed. Long Haul initiated his subspace storage to help alleviate some of the burden and allow the pile to sit down lower in his back section. However, that was a limited solution at best as the mound of materials still remained higher then where his force field could effectively cover. Therefore, it would not be possible for him to transport everything down to the sea floor without some things getting wet. He would have to make numerous trips in order to get the job done. Thankfully, his commander had ordered a hole to be dug that would serve as temporary storage.

"I guess I'll go help 'Crusher and Scavers," the green dump truck muttered to himself as he rolled through the sand towards the area where his two comrades were digging the cave. It didn't take long for him to reach the excavation site, stopping several yards away from where Scavenger and Bonecrusher were hard at work. Not wanting to just sit there and do nothing to help, Long Haul lifted his rear bed up and allowed the ton of supplies to slide onto the ground. He then moved towards his teammates, backing his empty truck bed up to the cave's entrance. "Here ya go, guys. Load me up with dirt and rock so I can go deposit it away from the site."

Mixmaster had transformed, a massive mixing drum steadily beginning to revolve as several other wide-rimmed cables snaked in to the ground and began extracting some of the local firmament. Mixmaster had always been notorious for being able to take just about any compound, even his own Cybertronian kin when the need arose, and reformat it in to some other productive substance.

Various element indicators began flashing on the Constructicon's interal optical system, indicating exactly which elemental compounds he was acquiring. Some of them were so primitive that they were almost unrecognizeable. This world was definitely something else.

Regardless, he was confident that he would be able to format structures that he and the other Constructicons could make use of in due time.

Scavenger was about to dump some more dirt to the ground when he saw Long Haul, making his offer for help. Without hesitating he dumped the contents of his shovel into the transport's rear bed.

"Sure, thanks for the help Long Haul" the excavator replied, "There should be enough room for both of us now, Bonecrusher."

As Scavenger turned around to keep digging he noticed a shiny blue stone. Carefully, he used his shovel to scrap the dirt around it until it fell to the ground. He then scooped the small stone with his shovel, and carefully placed it on top of his "gem" pile.

"It's great to work with you guys instead of that creepy Darkride." the excavator said as he continued working, "That crazy slagger kept talking about eating me and drinking my fuel. If we're lucky, Mixmaster will put that psycho into his mixing drum for materials."

Bonecrusher had left Scavenger's pile of 'pretty gems' alone more for practicality than common courtesy. While most of time the excavator collected nothing but junk there was always a chance of him actually finding something usable when he began babbling about pretty gems. Rare and valuable minerals would not be unheard of. And for that Bonecrusher was willing to let Scavenger bother Scrapper and Hook with his finds rather than himself. The amount of whining he would have had to listen if he had shoveled Scavenger's treasure pile together with rest of the soil he was pushing around - would have been nothing short of a nightmare.

Long Haul's appearance to the scene made the digging work much faster. With Scavenger being able to load the dirt and rocks directly into the dump truck's truck bed, Bonecrusher was given a chance to transform into robot mode and move to his comfort zone - to breaking things.

"Finally!" Was his only response to Scavenger's announcement of there being room for Bonecrusher now. As he walked into the cave opening, his hands retracked and were replaced with drills. A moment later Bonecrusher disappeared from sight into a cloud of dust as he began drilling into the bed rock, leaving so much rubble behind for Scavenger to move that the excavator would have difficult time to keep up with the demolitions specialist. Whatever Scavenger was saying about Darkride was mostly lost to Bonecrusher due to the noise caused by his drills. "What?! Darkslagger eating Mixmaster's drums?!"

Hook frowned as Scrapper made some changes to his design. The perfectionist would never admit he was wrong or that someone could do his work better then him. He simply silently studied the changes. Scrapper threw him a bone with the adjustments comment and Hook eagerly grabbed hold of it. “Of course such adjustments will be necessary, but fortunately you do have my vast skills at your disposal to assure everything goes perfectly.”

Oil Slick had hooked up the rest of his equipment with Darkride’s assistance. This also gave him time to come up with a reasonable excuse to get away to the meeting with Tracer. He already had one in mind when he had sent the coordinates to her, near a chemical plant. He simply needed to be in the right position to make the excuse plausible. Once they began to produce the parts from his chemicals he knew the time was right.

The Decepticon walked over to where Scrapper and Hook were looking over some sort of schematics, which he paid little attention to. Instead Oil Slick addressed the Constructicon commander directly. “Scrapper, with your permission I would like to bounce to another location on the planet. I have located a chemical plant that manufactures a certain stabilizing agent that will help strengthen the scaffolding we are producing now. While I am certain Mixmaster and myself could produce it on our own it would likely take some time and more of our chemicals then it would be worth. I can conduct a covert raid on my own and fill one of my tanks with the agent and bring it back here in far less time then it would take for us to produce it.”

Scrapper nodded to Hook. "Of course. Your skills are vital to this team, I know we can make this perfectly even with time and resource pressures." Truthfully, time and resources weren't that scarce on the surface of things, but Scrapper would rather have this project finished before any of the other teams had to meet up with them. If they could get this mobile base operational before Starscream thought to inspect it....

The approach of Oil Slick brought Scrapper out of his scheming. He listened to the chemists request. "I understand, and if you think you can pull it off, then you have my approval. But remember, the security of this operation is vital. If you are caught, pull out immediately and do not, under any circumstances, lead anyone back to this site, human or Cybertronian. Understood?"

We can't let anyone get an advantage over us, in a time like this. Not until we know for certain where this Empire is going, and whether anyone really can fill Megatrons throne.

With Long Haul and Bonecrusher's help, the work had gone much faster than if Scavenger had done it himself. True, he would have rather gotten all the credit for doing it on his own, but the excavator was sure Scrapper would be just as pleased with the work getting done faster. And anyway, he could still get extra credit for all the precious minerals he had found and set aside.

"I think we've made the cave big enough now, guys." he said
to the other Constructicons, "I'll contact the boss."

>>Scrapper, this is Scavenger. We've got the storage cave finished, ready to put all the equipment we need. Plus, you won't believe some of the things I've found in the ground here! I can't wait to show you, there's all sorts of valuable stuff here!"<<
