Seeking the Seekers!

Postby kwanzaabot » Wed Oct 03, 2012 7:06 pm

So I've started collecting Transformers again for the first time since Beast Wars (and a Classics Bumblebee I got back in '07), and I'm interested in getting the Seekers, since they're among my favourite G1 characters.

The thing is, I really don't want to spend, let's assume $100, on 4 or 5 variants on the same toy. I mean, I've got bills to pay!

So, I was wondering if people could suggest to me their favourite versions of Starscream, Skywarp and Thundercracker. (Preferably different versions for each character, so my collection doesn't look all the same :P)

Also the coneheads, although admittedly I'm not as big a fan of those.

Generations/ Classics versions deffinatly.

Love the G1 versions, but the classics are the best in my opinion. look like the G1's but with better transformations and they look very good.

Thanks, I'll look into those. :)

(Also, I've edited my original post, as ideally I'd like different versions of each character- I'm wondering if maybe different paint jobs/heads/alt modes look better on one version of say, Starscream, than they do on that line's Thundercracker, for example)

Well, let me lay out the Seekers you could find, and you choose the ones you can most likely afford.

These are definitely the way to go if you're into G1 Seekers:

Image

If you're willing to fork out about $20-40 bucks per figure.

Looking for some Movie Seekers?

Image

Animated Seekers?

Although, good luck finding this guy at a nice price:

Image

Armada Seekers?

Image

Bleh...only Starscream had an Energon Toy:

Image

Cybertron Seekers?

Image

How about some Prime Seekers?

Go FE Deluxe...

Image

Or PRiD Voyager...

With Japanese Arms Micron Exclusives:

Skywarp

And upcoming Thundercracker!

There are probably a few I missed, maybe some legends down-scales, but the choice is yours. ;)

And welcome back to collecting!

well there is also Masterpiece....if your willing to pay that much. no cone heads for them yet though.

I guess that would depend on if you prefer a G1 look, movie, ect. and if you want all the seekers in scale with one another.

Yeah, he said he doesn't want to fork out that much. I don't recommend buying the Classics either, if you're not willing to fork maybe 20-40 bucks a figure, give or take.

It's not that I'm not willing to fork out the money, it's more that if I did spend a lot of money, I don't really want 3 near-identical figures to show for it.

If you don't want 3 near-identical figures (save for paint job), then why collect the Seekers at all?

That's what I've been thinking

But...there have been times when Starscream was a different mold from the other two in the same line. Take Cybertron for example.

It's not like they've only used the one mold ever since 1984. Every new toyline does something different with them.

Let's take Thundercracker for example. Some versions of him use a really ugly shade of blue. So, the Starscream for that particular series might look better.

Another series might make Starscream mostly grey, and look kind of boring with only minimal red highlights. The Thundercracker for that one might look nicer.

I'm guilty of this same thing. I'm just not a fan of redecos. :P I do, however, appreciate the characters and want a representation of each. :) I have Classics Screamer (sans null-rays sadly, since I got him as part of a lot), 07 Voyager Thundercracker, who I quite like, and I would love for my Skywarp to use the FoC mold...but they have to make it first!

I'm fine with redecos, as long as they're different characters. Not "Elite Guard Bumblebee," "Shadow Strike Bumblebee," "Nightwatch Optimus Prime," "Battle-Ready Megatron," "Buy-Our-Toys Derpface; Crystal Edition."

The only time I'll accept redecos of the same character is if it's in the show. Otherwise, new character or die.

Well yeah, I just mean for my collection. Now, there have been a handful of really nifty redecos lately, like Prime Dead End and GDO Brawl (I love the Breacher mold), which really don't look like the original versions.

PRID Megatron, Darkness Megatron, Darkest megatron? XD It seems like Darkest Megatron has Megs with Solus Prime's arm, just like in the latest episode where he used it to wield the Forge. The forge hammer would appear to be the Darkest Megatron Micron. So, do all 3 megatron count?

First of all, we don't know what Prime arm Megatron has. Solus Prime isn't the only Prime that can hold the Forge. For example, the Star Saber is forged by Solus Prime, yet Optimus was able to wield it.

So, you want a set of Seekers, but not necessarily uniform Seekers? Just the best looking of each? I tried that before, being a huge Seeker fan, and I ultimately ended up just getting entire sets from each line that offered more than one of the characters.
I would also recommend the Classics Seekers, as that way you can end up with all six of them in a uniform style. Aside from that, it seems to me the size differences would make it tough to mix and match. I don't get frazzled over scale, but for instance I really like the Supreme Starscream from Cybertron, but except for the MPs no other Seekers come close to that size, so to me it would look real awkward. All I can really think of it Armada, where SS and TC are the same but at least Skywarp and Ramjet look different, yet identical to each other. But then, missing a Thrust and Dirge, so.

A recently announced Megatron figure. Beyond that I don't believe we know anything. Also, GDO Brawl is a straight redeco, no retooling. I thought it was a retool for the longest time until I took a good look at Breacher's (awesome) head sculpt and realized it was the same.

Sorry for multi-posting, but I'm more or less with you on this. I love redecos and repaints, as I can generally make them into my own character rather than just accept the notion that it's sneaky Bumblebee or night time Optimus Prime, but I hate it when repaints simply get an adjective added to the front of their names. Like, what's actually the difference between (for example) Bulkhead and Battle Tactics Bulkhead? Wouldn't it be like, a different way which Bulkhead was employed by the military? If you're a cashier and you get promoted to assistant manager, you don't turn a different color.
I never really cared until all the endless movie repaints took up this approach. I'll accept all the red BB repaints as Cliffjumpers, but I won't accept a red BB repaint as "Fire Resistant Bumblebee" or whatever. That's just dumb.

I have a little bit of trouble making those characters their own, unless it's in the show. They would look too similar to the original character for me to accept it.

So, how would we know what he looks like? How would we know he has the Forge of Solus Prime and the Prime arm if we haven't seen him? :???:

I suspect it was just a conjecture on the part of the poster. It's not unreasonable to suppose a (Solus?) Prime-arm micron to be in the works at this point, lol.

Seekers? The thousand same-body-types-as-Animated-Bumlbebee folk? It's easy to make a redeco their own characters, they've done it before, and will continue to do so, I'm sure.

No, I'm talking about Shadow Strike Bumblebee, Nightwatch Optimus Prime, BuyOurToysMode Megatron, etc. I'm not talking about characters that already are their own characters, and I already said that I have no problem with them:

Even the person I'm talking to made it clear. I don't understand the confusion.

Ah, my apologies! I misread your post. Yeahh, those are hard to abide by, there's really no point to them. I mean, the occasional one looks good, like Dotm (Hell)Fireburst Prime and Murderbee, but for the most part it's annoying and shelf clogging.

Yeah. I'd like things to be the way they were before the end of Animated, ya know? When lines didn't last less than 10 or 11 months, and actually stayed alive for as long as the show or media was. There were multiple toys to choose from, you didn't have to be shoved in the face with 10 Bumblebees of the same figure at the stores and spend months look for figures.

Those days are gone, thanks to these "special" repaints of the same character. Don't get me wrong, some of them are cool, but I just don't see a point for them clogging up our shelves, like you said.
