I didn't know it was Ryan either. I was wondering why some floater was spending $150 to fix this. FYI I got notifications from this and other threads so I think things are turning around. Gonna test PMs now

Definitely not resolved yet ... didn't receive notifications for your posts in this topic, but I can't remember if I clicked on the link to view the topic either so that might be why.

Well I got a notification for this and other threads, without having to respond each time so I think it's working. I sent Burn a PM but I don't know if he's had a chance to look yet.

Same crap as yesterday minus the bacon.

Probably explains why it tasted crappier today. Anyone know the secret to a nice tasting wrap that has more meat than salad?

I've been getting notifications right along since you spent the big bucks to get it fixed.

The site keeps slowing down and freezing up for me in Google Chrome.

Had to login into the much inferior Internet Explorer to type this message.

Sounds like a problem with your Chrome browser if it's working in Internet Explorer. You might want to update your Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Shockwave Player and update your Java on your computer.

Tried doing the first and third ones yesterday (since my browser says I already have the latest Adobe Flash Player), but no improvement.

Java seems to be working fine, but the Shockwave plug-in keeps acting up, even after I tried downloading it twice and each time said it was successful.

I've restarted both my browser and my whole computer several times since then, and even ran a full system scan of my computer that yielded no threatening results. Chrome is still acting slow and freezing whenever I try to access this site with it.

Can you let me know which version of Chrome you are using? I am using Version 35.0.1916.153 m

Which version of Windows are you on? I use Chrome as my primary browser and am not experiencing any technical issues with the site.

Is the problem happening throughout the entire site or just on the forums?

Windows 8

Mostly in the forums, but at times on the front page and news pages.

But I do think you're right about it being a Chrome thing since at least two other sites I go to have begun to suffer the same problem (one of which seems to even have a simple design with far less media content than Seibertron.com).

If you are having problems with other sites as well, you might want to save your bookmarks (export them to your desktop), uninstall Chrome, restart your computer, reinstall Chrome from Google and then re-import your bookmarks.

Tried this method and so far so good.

Though, oddly enough, after uninstalling and re-installing it, all my bookmarks/history/etc. I had on it before are completely intact, as though I didn't even do anything.

Well, it's behaving now and hopefully will continue to do so. Cheers. ;)^

Do you "sign in" to the Chrome browser using your Google account? If so, your settings and bookmarks are saved in the cloud. If you went to another computer and signed in to that Chrome browser with your Google account, all your bookmarks etc would be there too. It's all very cool/convenient/creepy at the same time...

I was working on some things behind the scenes trying to resolve some speed issues and reduce server load.

Rated X wrote:I wish there was a happy medium but there isnt. I was reading the "rollbar" article and most of the comments are about thread merging, not rollbar. I dont know anything about servers, all I know is its annoying and discourages me from posting on front paged news articles. I like to follow up on my comments and cant do so when theres 3 pages of comments every few hours that dont pertain to the topic I posted on.

Just for clarification, this doesn't have anything to do with server space or storage. Seibertron.com is on a massive 4 TB server and while the site itself is huge and takes up about 500GB or so, merging topics doesn't have anything to do with server space.

It was something that we rolled out earlier or late last year (so for those of you saying this has been annoying for the past few years, it wasn't go on to this degree). The news staff and I decided on doing this to help encourage discussion on our forums and to help keep all of our sanity to figure out where topic discussions should happen. It was also decided to do this to help keep sponsor newsletters in one location for each sponsor for the same reason. It just made more sense. I understand that it can be frustrating to have a discussion about AOE Rollbar interspersed between replies about other AOE products, but that's the way this is going to work for the time being. That's what the quote function is for.

We know it's not perfect. As always, we're open to discussion and ideas. For the time being, I don't want it to go back to the way it was because we had way too many abandoned topics and there was too much confusion about where to post a reply because there were too many topics about the same thing.

testing spoiler tag ... please ignore ...

I understand what you're saying Ryan and it really wasn't an issue for me until this movie cycle when every new figure was being merged into one thread and there were a lot of crossing comments. Not everyone likes to or uses quotes since they're not responding to a person directly. I'm sure once the AOE era is over things will calm down a bit.

I know this isn't a democracy, but if feedback is a factor, I'm with the others in feeling that these topics being merged is a painful user experience. I've basically been throwing one comment in on a topic if the topic is recent enough not to have been swamped with more toys/reveals/discussions because I can't keep track of what's being discussed by the time I get there and this also prevents me from having actual discussions with other users here about a particular figure or figures since by the time I may go to reply to or comment on what another user has said, several pages and news posts have occurred within the same thread about different figures/reveals etc. Incidentally, that's also why (as you may notice if you check where I've been posting these days) most of my posting now happens in the 3rd party forum. I'm not even buying that much third party stuff these days, but since those topics are generally kept separate to each individual figure, I can actually have a coherent conversation/discussion about it without losing track of where I posted, what the responses were to my post and what figure/item is being discussed.

I may post once on a front paged news topic these days and then I usually have to abandon it for the reasons above even if I have more to say about it or questions to ask.

Im not news staff, so I dont know how things are from that side of the tracks. But I offer this solution:

Delete the old stuff nobody reads or cares about.

Is there really a need for outdated "archives" ? Examples:

* If TF Source sends a new newsletter every week, why not just delete last weeks newsletter when the new one is posted ?

* Do we really need threads with grey prototype pics of MP-10 and older products ? Nobody reads it, delete it.

* For the Botcon stuff, delete old threads. Nobody cares about reading 100 comments about when is the Botcon 2008 website going live ? Delete them.

While I know the issue doesnt involve space or storage, deleting stuff might make things less confusing for the staff to the point where they can eliminate "thread merging" altogether.
