Should I buy a Nintendo 3DS?

So I've been thinking about buying a Nintendo 3DS (but I don't want to get one if a newer model's going to make an appearance in a few months' time)... Have any of you guys bought one? If so, did you find it to be money well spent? And again, if so, what games would you recommend?

Thanks for your help. :)

No, you should get a Sega Nomad. It plays Genesis games.

The 3DS is a fantastic little system and tons of fun. The StreetPass content alone is a great motivator and interest grabber in this gamer's humble opinion, and that's before you get to the actual traditional games.

BTW, don't expect a revised model any time soon. Contrary to the mantra of the uninformed jump-to-conclusionists, a revised model is a long way off.

Although, the 3D gimmick is neat but ultimately kind of pointless, and it is hard on the eyes if you plan on playing fast paced games for any length of time. Luckily, it's not a detriment to play as you can easily turn it on and off with a simple slider.

I would heartily recommend it, as it is worth every penny.

Buy one, or forever be a weenie. Or worse, a funster.

Thank you kindly, Tekka. Your answer has provided me with everything that I needed.

And besides, who wants to be a weenie?

One bit of warning though: should you go trans-Atlantic and planning on buying games there, don't! Unlike previous handheld systems, the 3DS is region-locked like its console cousins. That's why I'm not getting one given my tendency for trans-Atlantic trips. [-(

Now you're just being stupid.

I just got one for xmas and I find the 3D surprisingly helpful. Especially with Star Fox, it makes judging distance so much easier I can fly through narrow passages and tell exactly where the Arwing is in relation to the obstacles. Plus it gives everything a much better sense of scale.

No, the 3DS sucks. First of all, it's region-locked. Second of all, it's library is complete crap. Just another rip-off from the "Big N". Save your money and buy a Vita.

Try and define "better game" without mentioning graphics, realism and violence ;)

Well, that's only a problem if you need to buy a game immediately upon seeing it, or if you're going to be out of the country of origin for a really long time.

Protip: God Thundercracker just straight-up hates Nintendo, so take that into account when weighing his opinion on the subject.

But...but...graphics, realism, and violence are the only factors in whether a game is good or not! That, and the amount of fanservice. Also the rating. (M = Great, T = Okay, E and lower = boring kiddie crap)

I really hope everyone realizes that was a joke.

As for the 3DS, honestly, there's only a few games I really want for it, and that's not enough to make me want one. On the other hand, I said the same thing about the PSP, and I happily own one now. That said, if you don't own a DS, I would say get a 3DS instead, which should work out better in the long run.

Or in my case, coming from Europe and the games you want are only released in the US... :BANG_HEAD: I do plan on moving to the US permanently in the next 2 years, and getting a 3DS then.

Especially since it can play regular DS games, except without the 3D.

I refuse to support Nintendo due to all the bullshit they have pulled with the NA region.

Such as? I seem to recall you somehow mixed up NA and Europe on this exact subject, you thought Europe got all of the game releases and NA got the shaft when in reality it's quite infamously the opposite.

i was quite surprised by the 3ds. i ultimately bought one for ocarina, which kinda stunned me. here i thought i was in for another n64 graphicy system, when it was actually given quite a nice facelift. and yes the 3D is neat, but pretty pointless. i cant keep it on for more than 20 minutes without going all buggy.

when it come down to it, im a nintendo fanboy. but i own pretty much every system. the vita (though being graphicly superior) is almost twice the price, and i just dont see it lasting. the other psp's didnt last very long..

what you should do is look at the game libraries for the pair. make your desicion that way. like i said i own every system, and ive been looking at the vita's games trying to give myself a reason to buy one. but so far theres nothing i cant live without.

What? The PSP lasted just fine, came out in 2005, and they just released it's successor in the past couple months. The DS didn't last much longer than it, either, so I don't know where you're coming from.

The system hasn't even been in the US for two months, you can't expect a slew of must-have games already. Neither the DS nor the 3DS had anything particularly great at launch either.

sigh.. now i dont really want to get into a fanboy war since i dont really care one way or another. BUT. i recall a time where psp games simply.. stopped showing up in stores. then my friend said they were primarily downloads or something.. i dunno. but even right now i still see regular DS games on shelves.

I seems to recall PSP games on the shelves last time I was in Gamestop, which was just last week.

I thought about getting a 3DS when they first came out but I have opted to wait for a larger screen version. The current screen is just too small considering that they could have made it the same size as an XL.

I play it when I stop in at the Game Stop though. It seems like a fun system.

Yes, you should buy a 3DS. It is awesome. Kid Icarus: Uprising is a great game and I hear a SSB game is coming out for it! (Not soon.)

But you should definitely buy that with MK7. Mariokart 7 is a great game with great graphics, same with Uprising.

The AR Games that come with it are pretty sweet too.

Funny you should mention that, because I did end up buying one. And I bought MK7 along with it (Koopa Troopa rules!). ^_^

I've heard good things about Kid Icarus, though I don't think it has been released here yet. And, yeah, I quickly dropped into EB a few days ago and I saw like a preview box for SSB. I really hope that one comes out soon.

And Mario Tennis. I'll be buying that game without a shadow of a doubt.
