Should I get a job?

I've been old enough to get a job for about 3 weeks now and I feel like I'm wasting my life. Should I get a job, if so, where? I could think of a few places but my distaste for humanity frightens me. I can see myself getting fired in less than 2 days for being hateful to a customer or worker. :BANG_HEAD: Wat I shud do?

Do like me. Hold out as long as you possibly can. My excuse? College work keeps me too busy for a job.

I may just have to. But my parents definitely will force me to get a job one day.

My first advice to you is to get over yourself. Sorry if that's harsh, but if you want to survive in this world, you are going to have to accept the fact that people can suck at times, but you need to be willing to bite your tongue at times in order to make money.

Go ahead and work. You will enjoy working, but you just need to realize that dealing with people is going to be part of any job.

When I started work, I was afraid of getting fired for being rude to customers, but I wasn't. I worked and I adapted. I went from anti-social to being a pretty good sales person in the space of 2 weeks.

Once you put your mind to it, you can handle the situation. Just be willing to adapt and not freak out over everything being a conspiracy and you'll be fine.

I got my 1st job when I was 17. I was a cashier at a grocery store. I've changed a lot of jobs since then, but you have to grow up sooner or later. I work cause I got bills to pay. If you work you could start saving and what not. There will be a day when you'll have to get your own place. Being an adult isn't so bad. Just can't let the petty stuff get to you. And in my current job, I deal with the public.

I actually hope I find a job somewhere where the boss is a government spy out to kill me! That'd be cool. 8)

If you act like how you post, then I have $10 that says you'll think the 2 year old asking you for help finding their mom willl be a spy out to kill you...

Just because I believe that there's an evil government organization, doesn't mean I think everyone's trying to kill me...but I do get scared that everyone's watching me though. Not the government either. Just people. I'm ashamed of my humanity.

I'm just about a year older than you, and I don't have a job yet. Most of the jobs available are either full time or require at least a four-year college degree. I'm seventeen, I'd much rather go to school to get into college than have a full time job. Yeah, it's a little difficult. My friend is almost nineteen and is heading off to college soon; he's been looking for a part-time job for over a year and everyone has told him they're either looking for a full time worker or an experienced adult already qualified for a higher position, and plus he doesn't hear back from them for weeks to see if he's hired or not. I'm going to try my dad's former employer and old friend and see if he'll hire me; it's literally my best shot.
So, if you can find a job, more power to you. The tricky part is finding one suitable to a teenager in this day and age. Our generation is just a victim to bad circumstances in the world of jobs.
Just learn how to handle the unsatisfiable people successfully and be naturally polite to the normal ones. My one local McDonald's franchise (yes, Mickey D's) has some very strict management concerning employee behavior, so you're going to have to comply with what's handed to you.

Life isn't a race to the grave. If you feel you aren't ready for a job, then just forget about it. Summer for you guys who are still in grade school is already 1/4th done. Even if you get the courage to make a resume and apply for a job, you're only going to work for 1/2 a summer. While the experience and pay would be nice, there's still a summer that you can use to do other things that you might find productive.

Try to get a job picking orders in a warehouse. I've done this while in college, and it's great. You never have to deal with customers, you essentially work on your own, and the pay is usually higher than most minimum wage type jobs.

The work is simple enough that a chimp could do it, so I don't see why they wouldn't hire a high schooler.

Most warehouses only hire if you're 18 and over.

Costco and Sam's Club won't even let you apply if you're under 18.

This is due to safety.

I'd like to work in the back of a Wal-Mart so that I could take something I like and bring it up to the cash register before it goes on the shelf. 8)

I started working for a gas station on Sundays when I was 14 (my mom worked there as a cashier as well) and I learned some skills that I still can use to this day too.

I can change oil, and plug a tire the proper way with a patch, tune spark plugs, etc..

I got paid $25 a day and I used that $$$ to buy all my TF's back then.

My first job in high school was a Summer camp counselor. Most enjoyable job I've yet had and it kept me in great shape. I liked it so much that I couldn't believe I was getting paid and would have done it for free. I hear people who work in the film world (and probably most artistic fields) often say the same thing. I used to think that idea was ridiculous until I found a job where it was true.

Hopefully I will again later on. >:oP

So, when it comes to the question of "should I", you're at the age where you have the luxury of finding a job--the fun factor can actually be more of a priority than the necessity of having cash. For most, this decreases with age and necessity will gradually outweigh fun. Working with people is clearly not an enjoyable factor for you yet, and may never be, so poke around and find something that does click.

I'm seventeen and don't have a job yet. I had thought about getting one this summer, but my parents and I figured that few places would hire me, since I wouldn't be able to work all that much, due to having a busy schedule. There would be no way I'd be able to have a job during school, and I strongly encourage you not to try to get one once school starts. I'd never be able to be a good student/have good grades if I had a job, especially since I'm involved with theatre. I'd be worn out all the time.

If you're worried about losing your job due to being antisocial, then although you do need to get over that eventually, you might want to start with a job that would involve less interaction with customers, such as working in the stock rooms of a store like Target.

A job, good grades, a social life, and sleep. You only have time for three of them.

I held a job all through college, and manages to graduate from three programs! It possible, but be prepared to work on a maximum of 5 hours of sleep! :P

I started working when I was 16 to afford driving. Either way, I am glad I had to get a job. I still have some good friends from those days, and I won't even start talking about some of the silly crap we used to do. I had a lot of fun, and I met a lot of people that opened a bunch of doors later in my life. I also got the pride of knowing that I wasn't a lazy-ass.

At least, I think I do. I may have a job at Play N Trade, a video game store! I just found out that you can get a job there at 15 too. If only I had known. Now, I can finally buy stuff. So many TFs and awesome video games coming out next year, I had to find a job. (Yes, those are my main concerns as of now.) I just hope that I can pull it off...I doubt it though :-( .

Wow, they hire starting at 15? I need to check them out, then! I guess I never thought of that place as a possibility because I only see weird guys with receding hairliines working in there... Wait... maybe I SHOULDN'T check them out...
