Japanese Superior, English Inferior!

(In the case of these three Japanese G1 series, that is)

Weapon: Acetylene Torch Gun
Just picked this up today. I love the first two seasons of the G1 cartoon. Everything fell apart for me when the movie arrived and all of my favourite characters were either killed off or disappeared from the series. I do have the box set and have watched the third season but it just wasn't the same.

I grabbed this set mainly because I am able to see some of my old favourites again, (even though it completely destroys continuity when you see a once-dead Prowl running around, lol).

When I talked to Aaron Archer at BotCon this year, he said that the reason that some footage (like the pre-episode scenes, eyecathces, and next-episode previews) were missing was because Hasbro wasn't able to acquire those bits from Toei when they got the three series for their archives. Which explains why neither the Metrodome nor the Madman DVDs of The Headmasters have them either.

The reason that the TV-Nihon fansubs have them, though, is because those were made from using footage from the Japanese DVDs, unlike what the official DVD subs did using footage directly from the Toei video masters.

been a silent watcher of these boards for a while, but i had to chime in on this set, which i picked up today, just just a quick review from me. The packaging is nice, no complaints there. The only extra is a art gallery, so virtually no extra's. The video quality is fairly sub par, very disapointing, its certainly watchable, but its a far cry from the remastering done on previous sets. Finally, the translation; i dont know what to say other than its not very good. All the american names are used, even when they make no sense, the translation itself seems fairly dry, episode titles are inaccurate (eg "the rebirth of rodiumus prime") and there is zero profanity. Personally, im glad the set came out here in the states and everyone can see it, however to me its a big dissapointment, maybe masterforce will be better.
