i was recently looking at my classics decepticons and i thought to myself i need a devastator. so i looked at the classics repaint from energon. it was too small, not that posable and limbs too bulky for the body. so i looked at the devastator here at: http://www.frenzyrumble.com/ and it was perfect! but i have little experience at kitbashes and am afraid i will mess up. i need to know what tools, TFs, and TF parts i need. i dont want to copy that devastator exactly, that would not be right. help would be appreciated. thanks.

Hello!

I'm a model builder so I think my advice here will be very helpful to you.

First, how much experience in model building do you have? Making a figure like that Devastator is going to require that you have several years of practice and skill. I'd recommend you start with Gunpla and move into anime resin figures along with Warhammer miniatures. All the skills you'll acquire from those genres will allow you to build a Devastator like the frenzyrumble custom.

You're going to need sandpaper, files, epoxy putty, paint, primers, sculpting tools, and an airbrush. I urge you to look around fichtenfoo.com and bakuc.com as they will be very useful to you as you develop your skills.

Please take your time and develop the skills you need before you take on this project. Unless you start out small, you'll become frustrated and will lose your desire to take on Devastator.

I think you're still thinking a little too big if you intend to make a kitbash od Doubledealer. I'm not even sure what would be a good choice for him.

Making Devastator by the end of summer is a little too ambitious if you ask me. You're going to need to develop a lot of experience in sculpting and modifying.

I'm going to recommend that if you do anything for Devastator, it would be to just gather the parts and hold on to them until you are able to bring out their full potential.

Show me some pics of the Gundams you've made. I need a better idea of what you're capable of so I can see what else you need to learn.

You may want to buy some resin kits of anime figures as the sculpting and modifying skills you learn from them will be invaluable as you progress to making Devastator. If you decide to go this route, please PM me about where to buy them first as ebay is not the way to go for resin which I'll explain in the PM.

Also, I do school full time as well, but I still got some modeling in so it's very doable. I completed about 5 figures over 2 semesters of college and still got really good grades.

Those look pretty good. I like the color schemes. I can see a good number of brushstrokes an whatnot though. You might want to consider getting a good airbrush as it will help you get a nice even finish on flat surfaces.

You'll also want to consider some Warhammer stuff as you really need to hone your handbrushing skills.

Sideswipe will be a good choice to customize, just don't get too crazy with modifications.

I'm still going to insist that you don't build Devastator this summer. I'd like to see your skills grow and develop so that way you can make a Devastator that you can be proud of.

I got my airbrush and compressor for $100 at Harbor Freight. It's the only set I know of that is cheap and very high quality. Even the professionals recommend it. The airbrush the set comes with is a copy of one of the $150 Badger models so you can't go wrong.

Warhammer is a game that uses miniatures to play. You can build an army and use it to play the game or to increase your skill. I don't play, but I do paint them. I also like the Warmachine stuff.

Here are some model sites that I frequent, I highly recommend you join them and read through all the information in the sites.
