Regardless of what Bay did or didn't do, the movie adaption comics clear up the fates of the bike sisters and the Twins.

I know, I saw him 2 times in the Iridescent Trailer (once in V.1, another in V.2, obviously), but he still didn't have him in ROTF, so he did it with Barricade in ROTF...

Hahaha, don't worry Gyro, I am not trying to prove you wrong. You are the Seibertron God of all things transformers buddy I'm just stating we may actually receive a little info as to why the writers left him out of ROTF. At the very least, maybe just killing off a loose end. Regardless, I think that's pretty cool.
