I think I remember talk of Starscream being a girl in the French G1 toon.

I read this one Wikipedia months ago, but I took it with a pinch of salt.

I'm not sure, but Shrapnel definitely was. (In the French dub of the movie, Kickback refers to him as "Mademoiselle Shrapnel.")

Yep, Starscream and Shrapnel were both femcons in the French dub. Leastways, Screamer was voiced by a female VA. The theme song is also great, in the sense of wonderfully, bizarrely French.

I guess this is kinda related: something that always baffled me was the fact that BW Airazor is acutally a dude in the Japanese show. They explain her (well, his) and Tigatron's relationship as a strong brotherly bond. Ick. The one scene that really gets to me is the scene from Other Visits, Pt. One where they look at each other with passion in their eyes and embrace each other.

well we turn some of thier guys into girls too. but i think they did this so that when they got fuzed into tigerhawk, people wouldnt be wondering he was supposed to be thier son, or a hermaphrodite

I always heard it was because the Japanese don't like female character that much. And what characters have we turned into girls?
