I always heard it was because the Japanese don't like female character that much. And what characters have we turned into girls?
Cybertron Overdrive would be the most recent example.

The Japanese are a very patriarchal society and likes to place women in lower positions than males.

Does anyone know the Frenchscream VA's name? I listened to the clips, and I actually really like the way she plays the role.
In the wrong hands...

That makes everytime Megatron beat down Starscream that much more funny. When I was a young lad, I always thought Starscream was a girl, even in the US version. That Chris Latta had quite the odd voice to me as a 5 year old.

I loled, I knew it but never heard the Clips till now, Starscream sounds like... cute O_O I'd hit that. Shrapnell... no, but Screamer, yeah. I wonder how BW is explained, her being in Waspinator's body... or is Waspy a girl their too?

Starscream is a GIRL?! I think that my brain just melted...
That's weird, he looks nothing like a Femmecon! He has no feminine features. He's big and square and boxy, but Femmecons and Femmebots are usually smooth and rounded in design.
