Stupid Surrender Scene

Postby Bonecrusher27 » Fri Jul 15, 2011 10:06 am

After watching DOTM yet again, I realised that in spite of the little dissatisfactions, such as Megatron's 3 second literally sudden death, disses at Megan Fox and screwing with continuity, Ironhide's death etc etc, the one scene that disturbed me most throughout all three times I watched it, was that surrender scene where the Autobots are literally kneeling with hands behind their heads, looking completely cowed and subdued.

There were no visible means of restraining the Autobots as far as I could see, just guns pointed.

No one moved or made any attempt to save Q from execution.

BB didn't make ANY attempt to fight back when Soundwave was about to execute him.

All these things were surreal enough.

But when Optimus Prime 'rescues' them, that's what really drives the point home, because it proves they weren't incapacitated or even disarmed! Indeed what Prime does amounts to simply providing a distraction, because hey presto, out come the weapons, the knives, out whip the guns and cannons, and the cleaning up of what look like little more than drones/ faceless bad guys.

The most surreal part of the movie for me.

I'm not sure if you can completely disarm a TF, they seem to just "grow" weapons.

Being surrounded by dozens of armed Decepticons, the Autobots couldn't attempt anything without instantly being shot to pieces. Unless of course something distracted the Cons.

They were heavily out-numbered. It wasn't until the ships fell from the sky and Optimus flying in that the tide turned.

The movie did not take ONE dig at Megan Fox. In fact, I was kind of surprised by how nicely they got rid of her character.

Saw it twice. Pretty sure Wheelie didn't call her a bitch.

It has nothing to do with "hearing what we want." No one's mother is going to say "You know, your current girlfriend is great, but I'd probably rank her right with your last one. You know, the one who dumped you."

Like it or not, Megan Fox's character could have been written out as a bad person, or killed off, but they instead had Sam date a different girl and basically just said "hey, things didn't work out."

Wheelie never called her a bitch. Wheelie said what if this one dumps us like the last girl. Then brains proceeds to say "ya, the last girl was mean. Didn't like her".

All sam said was he was dumper and found someone better. Thats not a stab. If they really wanted to take a stab at megan fox they could have made sam Dump her.

But on topic, it was actually Wheelie and Brains that saved the day when they started to crash the decepticon ship into the builds and cause the destraction for the Autobots to escape.

Also a subtle reminder of Megan Fox, or Bay's poking fun at her, however you want to look at it, at one point after her kidnapping, Carly was dressed in relatively the same clothes as Megan was in the desert in RotF. White coat, white pants, peach colored top.

I honestly can't understand why all the Autobots were trussed up all of a sudden as prisoners. I would have wanted to see them get beaten into submission then ceremoniously executed. I didn't want to be dropped into the middle of it not knowing how it happened. That is the only scene in the movie that didn't seem to truly fit w/out some scenes being omitted.

Yeah, dozens of Decepticon ships still in the air and dozens of Decepticons led by Soundwave and Dylan on the ground, having them in gunpoint. If one had drawn a weapon they'd all been slagged in a few seconds.

Although they(filmmakers) could have done it so that at least somebody(most presumably Bumblebee) would have objected to Que's execution, only to have Soundwave say: "You're next!"

And then, before killing Soundwave, Bumblebee would have said: "Correction, YOU'RE next!"

They didn't surrender, Ratchet even fought back, but they were herded in one place.

That's a good question that WHY Decepticons are taking prisoners when no autobot ever had mercy in the movieverse for a Decepticon. Shattered Grass anyone?

What's even worse about this scene is the fact that there's something I don't know if any of you realized...

After BumbleBee saves Shia and Fergie's boy where they were both on the hood of his car when starcream explodes, the next scene that BB has is him just driving off then the next one is him being captured?

This sequence of events had some horrible editing...they should have shown/explained how they got captured...

This crap bugged me the most about the movie...

Indeed, optimus is executing transformers left and right, while the decepticons take prisoners
Decepticons actually hardly ever got any kills against autobots, for the most part, it coudl argued to be self defense.
Where was decepticons are killed while fleeing for their lives, or are completely incapacitated already and then, I guess we're suppose to see it as a coup de grace that is performed on them.

The autobots certainly seem more murderous than the decepticons.
Shattered glass doesn't seem too far off.

It really does bug me. Still, even if we had seen the scenes leading up to it, I'm still not comfortable with the fact that they did nothing at all. Trussed up like sheep, but they weren't even trussed. You'd think they could have come up with some kind of distraction. The idea they would all have been executed one after another, if Prime hadn't showed up, still chafes badly.

In fact, I find it out of character that the Decepticons would take prisoners, and it'd take a loser human to tell them to execute them. Damn I hate that spineless bastard.

Did any Decepticons make any motions of surrendering besides maybe Megatron at the end of DOTM, though? I can't recall any.

This was just a poor scene, and another in the long list of why this movie just plain sucked if you wanted to go deeper than just visuals.

I also hate it how the Autobots got easily caught, but not any of the NEST, Navy seals or Epps team. Come on, I am sick of these movies showing the Autobots to be incompetent against the Decepticons. The Optimus getting hung up in the wires was BS!

And how come no major good humans died? I thought we were supposed to get this ultra dark story?

Optimus getting stuck in wires didn't bother me at first. Till it took like 30 minutes and 3 additional autobots to get him done.
Like, in that whole slew of weapons, optimus doesn't have something that can cut through cables? He can rip apart decepticons faces, but if he gets tangled up, he's out of commission.

It was ridiculous! Watching it for a third time chafed like the first. You are absolutely right, couldn't he have extricated himself? It almost makes me suspect it was an attempt at humour, but given the gravity of the situation I hardly think it would be. Why the devil would they do an image buster like that?
