For all fans of the video game series Super Robot Taisen (not just the 3 games that were "officialy" brought to the US) I wanted to make a thread for us to discuss these wonderful games. Wether it's favorite mecha, character, or game please post here. Also if anyone has knowledge of translations of the Japanese games please post info here. (P.S. to the admin folks if it is agianst the forum rules to post links to download these patches here please let us know as I don't want to get anyone in trouble.)

The only 2 that were localized for the US were Super Robot Taisen Original Generation and SRT Original Generation 2 both of which are for the gameboy advance. These were made using only Banpresto (the creator of the game) original mechs and characters and even though they are for the GBA they are still really solid strategy RPGs. The other games had other liscenced mecha like Gundams, Mazinger, Shin Getter Robo, etc. but those games were never released outside of Japan due to the insane liscencing issues.

Yep, that's one of them. Some of the titles substitue "Taisen" for "Wars" but ultimatley it's the same thing. I always have to show love to the Super Robots like Mazinkaiser and Shin Getter Robo!!!!

Weird timing, I picked up the controler and played SRW Alpha on the PS2 today for the first time in about 4 years. I forgot how time consuming that game is, I was playing for about 4 hours on the one mission.

Yeah it can be a VERY lengthy game, but how many times can you say you had Raideen, Shin Getter Robo, Mazinger Z, and Combattler V all on one team in one battle. That's why I love these games, keep in mind the only ones I've played that were not released in America were Alpha Gaiden for the PSone and Super Robot Wars J for the GBA.

I haven't bothered to play any of the non Japanese ones because they don't have the characters. Alpha drew me in by being able to play as GoShogun, Gaogaigar, Getters and Gaiking [who can combine with Daiku Maryu for extra moves]. I do feel I'm missing out on a lot of gameplay elements by not being able to read the Japanese menus and options though.

To be honest the OG games are goon in their own right. Yeah they don't have the cast that the other ones do but it holds a special place with me since it was the forst one I played. I need to get Alpha just for the fact of GaoGaiGar....(Love the Yuusha series!!!!!) The only ones I have now are Alpha Gaiden ( fan-translated patch), J ( also fan-translated), and the 2 OGs. Glad to see people at this site know what I'm talking about, I was actually afraid people wouldn't have a clue. As far as knowing what the menus say, Gamefaqs.com may be able to help you. I haven't looked for that specific game but I know they have alot of other guides for the SRW series that help navigate through the game.

I do recall going to gamefaqs for help with the game but all they had were the translations with descriptions of what they did but unless you can read japanese to translate what was on screen in the first place it was no help.
Building up the familiar characters is pretty much the only reason I got in to the game, watching the same [unskipable] move animations over and over for hundreds of hours isn't a huge draw in a game for me.

That must be a playstation only thing, because on the GBA games you can skip the battle animations instantly.

If you can I never figured out how to do it. Not that the animations arent cool to watch but after the hundredth time of seeing them it does tend to get old.

For the the GBA games all you have to do is hit the B button, that's how it is for the 2 OG games and for SRW J. I do agree the animations get old after a while, but the PSX ones should have a choice on the battle menu to turn the animations off, but at a sacrifice of not seeing how far the enemy's health bar go down. Have you watched the OG animes yet? They are pretty bad ass if you can find them!

1. Personally speaking, it never ceases to amuse me that some of the OG mechas have the code prefix, "PTX-", a la PTX-40A Ivan from Lost Planet; seriously, it's like Capcom's just Missing in Action in SRW. Yes, I know that Weissritter and Alteisen are older than Ivan, but still, I feel Ivan, having that "PTX-" prefix code is just tempting fate to be included in a future SRW game. :-?

2. Also, is D the only SRW game where Big O's theme sounds like Flash Gordon?

Compare and contrast:

3. I have a question about the W-Numbers, which originated from Advance/OG. Any word when they'll reveal the remaining still MIA units?
