Taiwan Transformers sightings

Postby rob_charb » Wed Jan 23, 2008 5:01 am

I guess the old one got wiped out in December, so here's a brand new sightings thread for those of us in Taiwan.

As of 1/12 the Toyland toy store in Global Mall (Banciao) has several Allspark Power figs, a ton of Leader Prime, Megs and Brawl, some random Titanium and Cybertron figures and, best of all, an Encore Soundwave, Encore Starscream and two Encore Megs. They had Encore Prime, but I snatched him up on my last trip there.

Also, the local hole-in-the-wall hobby shop in ShuLin, across from the train station, has a buttload of Movie toys and still has the odd Cybertron and even Armada toys. He has a Unicron if anyone is looking for one and even the purple version of Tidal Wave.

A rather odd update today.

It would appear that the convience store chain "Family Mart" has started stocking TF Movie Legends and even Scouts. The one near me had some Blackout and I think Megs Legends and four Storm Surge repaints of Shortround.

Also, the OK Mart chain has been stocking some KO G1 combiners, such as Superion, Defensor and, as of today, Menasor.

On a side note, just how worthwile is it for me to update this thread? Doesn't seem as though there are many Taiwan collectors here...

Ah well, in that case, update I shall :D

I forgot to mention that the building in Ximending with Tom's World Arcade and all the hobby and video game shops on the fourth floor has a couple shops that are quite stocked up with some movie figures. I saw a lot of Longarms, Thundercrackers, Rescue Ratchets and Megatrons in particular. Also, the shop on the second floor of the same building that's dedicated to Star Wars merchandise has some Star Wars vs Transformers four packs.

Although there are no other active posters on this thread, but it did generate quite a bit of view counts (over 100 now). Before the board wipe I did post a couple times here, indicating I will be interested in knowing good shopping spots, as well as general price range. My last time visiting Taiwan was 8 years ago, and I am looking forward to go back again within these couple of years with my whole family (wife, 3 kids & in-laws). I miss all those authentic Taiwanese food from street vendors.

Anyway Rob, I will visit this thread often and post some, so you won't feel too lonely in here. Hehehe!

Thanks bro!

I was at the Banciao FE21 again this Saturday just passed and they had a huge amount of movie stuff. A lot of Allspark Power deluxes, Premium Ratchet and Megatron, Leader OP and Nightwatch OP, Leader Megs and leader Brawl. They also have the Ultra Optimus Primal with the DVD (I snagged Megatron), the odd Classic, TiT Soundwave, MP Starscream (the Wal-Mart exclusive repaint), a couple of Cyberton Deluxe two-packs and even a poor lonely Encore Starscream.

Oh, coolpop, if you do ever make it to the island, let me know. I'd be more than happy to show you around some great shopping places.

How are the prices in TW's TF toy market compare to the States? Besides movie line, how's availability of older lines like Classics, Cybertron, Binaltechs, Alternators & Reissues?

Thanks so much buddy, we'll go toy hunting and then go feasting in a nearby nightmarket! Hope this day comes soon.

It depends entirely on where you go to get your TF fix. All department stores/mall shops charge pretty much the same prices. We pay 299NTD for a Scout, 499NTD for a delux and 799NTD for a Voyager. So it works out as roughly 10US, 16US and 24US for those three different sizes. Leaders are generally 1999NTD or 63US, depending on which department store/mall shop you are at. One thing to not is almost all TFs are the Hasbro releases.

However, if you go to smaller, family-owned-type hobby shops, you can usually get a better price. I paid 1200NTD for my Leader Prime instead of 1999NTD. On the downside though, the prices tend to vary widely at the little shops. For example, I paid 599NTD for the Japanese version of Bonecrusher at my local little shop and my dad paid 799NTD for the Japanese 08 BB at the same guy.

As for finding older stuff, sometimes you can run across the occassional Cybertron deluxe or Voyager, but the best places to look for older stuff is the little shops. My regular shop in ShuLin has a pretty decent stock of older stuff ranging from the odd Cybertron to a couple of BTs, a few TiTs, to a fair bit of Armada toys and even Beast Wars. Yes, he still has some Beast Wars toys, including the blue Transmetal Rhinox and Transmetal Rattrap.

Classics are still seen every now and then, but it's pretty much the same stuff wherever you go, ie: Prime and Magnus two-pack, Jetfire and Grimlock two-pack and the Constructicons.

One plus is that most department stores will also stock up on the Encore line up and any other specialty line that is currently running in Japan (with the exception of WST), so we get a fair amount of variety. However, the prices on the Japanese imports are, ironically, through the roof. I paid 1999NTD for my Encore Prime at a chain toy store while only 1200NTD at my ShuLin guy for Encore Megatron.

If you want to know anything else, feel free to ask.

Oh, and for sightings, I was at Global Mall yet again yesterday (Thursday) and saw at Toyland a lot of Nightwatch Primes, a couple Leader Megatrons, a lot of deluxes, including Stockade, Arcee (purple), and a lot of Voyagers, including Evac, First Strike Prime and Offroad Ironhide.

They also had a smattering of older stuff like Classics Prime and Magnus two-pack, the Constructicons, a few TiT Soundwaves, a lone TiT Magnus, a white MP Starscream, MP Skywarp (it is Skywarp that's the repaint right? I'm not a big Seeker fan), a couple Encore Megatrons and an Encore Starscream, about 6 Armada Red Alerts (I think it was Red Alert...it was the Japanese version. It looked like Red Alert, but it was yellow. The release number was MC-12) and even 6 complete sets of the Universe verson of Superion.

Almost picked up Superion until I saw they wanted 999NTD for it.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that all the TFs at the ShuLin guy are in near pristine condition and still MOC/MISB!!

Wow! Thanks Rob for all the valuable information, I feel I just completed a big TF shopping trip there. It's great to know there are many stores carrying healthy selection of different Transformers lines, and the prices all sound pretty reasonable. Best of all is that you get to touch/see the items you are buying, so you get to pick better conditioned boxes out of the batch.

In Southern California I only get to see movie toys in stores, other than that 95% of my purchases on other lines (Alt/BT/BTA/KP/WST/Cybertron/Classic, etc.) all came from online toy stores or eBay. My only other choice is go to Frank and Son Collectible Show, there are quite a few toy dealers with good TF selections (older lines as well), but the downside is many of them jacked up the prices so much, you really gotta know the market prices before haggling with the vendors.

Anyway, thanks again for your posts with lots of good information on TF toy availability and prices, it sure gets me fired up and I wish I was there already. Well at least I know how many big empty luggages I should bring back with me next time.. hahaha.

Have a great weekend bud! Happy hunting!

Cheers,

Well, went for a run out to ShuLin today to see if he still had Unicron, which he did, but he'd marked the price back up to 1999NTD and I only had 1200NTD to play with, so I had to take a pass. While I was there, I thought I'd see what else he had in stock, since I've only ever taken quick looks.

For Movie goodness, he's got just about every Voyager available with the exception of Starscream, regular paintjob OP and both versions of Ironhide. He may or may not have Incinerator, I can't be sure as the Voyagers were stacked pretty far back on the shelf and I couldn't really see all the names. Oh, he also has a RoboVision Prime. For Deluxes, he's got most of the initial stuff with the exception of Bumblebee and a fair bit of the Allspark Power stuff, including Recon Barricade, but it seemed minus Stockade. He also has a few FABs, including Blackout. He has several two-packs, like Barricade vs Bumblebee, the Evolution of a Hero set and the Blackout with Scorpinok set. He has a few Leaders as well, I think it was just Nightwatch OP and Megatron though. There was also an Ultimate BB, the one in the normal cardboard box, not the RoboVision-type cylinder. And finally, for Movie stuff, he's got a voice-changer OP helmet.

He was, unfortunately, out of anything related to Cybertron. The only Energon I could see was Ironhide. I could be wrong though because most of his older stuff are the Japanese releases. I think the rest of the older Japanese stuff was Armada though. He's got Hot Shot, Cyclonus, Demolishor, possibly Scavenger (I can't remember if it was that or something else I saw) and I think Blurr. Oh, and of course, the already mentioned Unicron. All of the Armada and lone Energon stuff was in quite good condition, with some minor wear on the boxes. Unicron's box, however, looked to be rather beat-up.

For Beast Wars, he had Transmetal Rhinox vs Transmetal Tarantulas, Transmetal Rattrap vs Transmetal Terrorsaur, Sonar, Scarem, a Transmetal Rhinox on it's own and also the Japanese version of Claw Jaw and Powerpinch being sold together. All the items were still sealed in the box/on the card. The boxes/cards were showing some wear from being stored on a shelf for so long though. There was also a lone Vehicon, but not sure what it was.

And finally, for odds and ends, he's got MP Starscream in US colours, MP Skywarp and MP Megatron. Also, he has an Encore OP. And that's all folks.

I was at the Toys R Us at the Asiaworld Mall near Taipei Arena on Saturday and they have a fair amount of movie toys available. Quite a few Allspark Power deluxes, including Recon Barricade, and some Allspark Power Voyagers like First Strike Optimus and Offroad Ironhide. They also had a few Wave 1 Deluxes like Wreckage. They also had about 5 or 6 of the Starscream/Arcee/Optimus three-packs and a lot of Leader class Primes and Brawls.

Tucked away in a corner they also had the Classics Jetfire/Grimlock and Prime/Magnus (which I almost got, but I already have Prime) two-packs, the Universe Cannonball/Downshift two-packs and even a rather lonely looking Classics Mirage (again, almost got it, but I already have one). There's also a lot of Cybertron Quick Mix and Vector Prime. They even had a Cybertron Wing Saber, but I snagged it :D

Oh, the Cybertron Voyagers are on sale for 598 instead of 799.

Believe it or not I bought my Cybertron Wing Saber from a Taiwan eBay seller, $23something + $27somthing shipping = approx. US$50 shipped. It was a pretty hard to find figure in the US, but for some reason this particular Taiwanese seller seems to have endless supply of it. Another weird thing is lately I saw a few of Canadian eBay sellers listing a whole bunch of Cybertron voyager class Sky Shadows, TF toys distribution sometimes could be a very funny thing.

Classic Prime/Magnus is a very sough after set too, I would recommend you getting them if the asking price isn't outrageous, I got mine few months ago on a special eBay deal for around US$25. A lilttle while ago I started collecting some of Cybertron figures I like, especially larger classes, so I picked up:

Supreme Class: Primus + 4 mini cons $29.99 KB Toys Deal
Ultra Class: Glaxy Force Optimus Prime + bonus scout $27.99 KB Toys Deal
Leader Class: Metroplex + bonus scout $27.99 KB Toys Deal
Voyager Class: Wing Saber MISB & Loose
Voyager Class: Sky Shadow MISB
Voyager Class: Jetfire Loose

I rediscovered Cybertron line because I was researching the upcoming TRU exclusive Allspark voyager Jetstorm & Wingblade figures and learned they were actually repaints, so I began to hunt down the moulds I like and that are still available out there (I passed on Vector Prime, QuickMix, Mudflap so far & still contemplating if I should get Defense Red Alert). NT$598 for a Cybertron Voyager figure, I'd say BUY BUY BUY!!!

Definitely get Cybertron Optimus Prime and combine with Wing Saber, it will be a great posing piece that stands out among your collections.

Thanks for your sighting post, I will put TRU Asiaworld Mall in my shopping spot list when I do go back Taiwan.

Cheers buddy!

I bought Vector Prime quite some time ago during the interlude between Classics and the movie stuff, when Cybertron toys were still pretty readily available. However, it was my first Cybertron figure and I was really let-down by it. Overlly simple transformation, flimsy rubber-plastic and just generally disappointing to me. So I kind of went off Cybertron. Then I thought I'd take a chance with Cyro-Scourge and was really let-down by the lack of any wrists, thus seriously limiting the poseability. So again, went of Cybertron. Then my wife got my Metroplex and Defense Scattorshot and my faith was renewed in the line. However, by that time, movie stuff started to hit and all that was left of the Cybertron line-up were some scouts and deluxes :(

I thought about getting Quick Mix, but the design really doesn't appeal to me.

Anyway, alas, we have no KB Toys in Taiwan. Sounds like you got some awesome deals on some good stuff! If you ever happen across another GF Prime, let me know, maybe we can work out some kind of buying and shipping to me deal :D

Will let you know of any other TF goodness I happen across here in the near future :D

I'm currently in Taipei, Taiwan on vacation. Went to the Toys R Us and Toyland near Taipei 101. They had a lot of the Best Buy exclusive megatron and ratchet. I was pleasantly surprised how well Megatron looked. They also had Megatron Masterpiece for about USD 130.

If you know your way around or have a friend/family member who does, try to make a trip out to FE21 in Banciao. On the 7th or 8th floor they have the toys and they have a massive stock of movie stuff, as well as a ton of white MP Starscreams, some Classics, a couple of Encores, a few random TiTs and even some Robot Masters.

If you're going to be around for a while, PM me and I can try to let you know some other places to hit up. I live in Sinjhuang, which is about a 20 minute drive from Taipei.

Oh, and the guy in ShuLin recently got the Japanese Henkei toys, as well as Transcanning Prime. Unfortunately, he's marked the prices up to ridiculous levels on the Henkeis. Prime was a whopping 1200NTD. And somehow, he's managed to get the Magnus/Skywarp two-pack again. It's going for about 1200NTD as well I think.

Hoo baby, got a good one for today!

I was at the Toy's R Us on JungJen Road in SanChong were the old Carrefour used to be and what did I find? Animated! Yeah baby!!

They have all of the Wave 1 Deluxes, Voyager Bulkhead, Starscream and Megatron and Leader Bulkhead and Megatron.

They're kind of mixed in with all the movie stuff still so they might not stand out right away, but they're finally out! Sa-weet!

Alas, I only had 1500NT on me, so I had a choice to make: 1 Voyager and 1 Deluxe, 3 Deluxes or 2 Deluxes and 1 Indiana Jones figure.

Alas, I chose option 3, which I greatly regret. I was rather disappointed with Indy, but that's for another thread. I ended up getting Prowl (who is kickass, despite having a loose hip that was fixed) and Cybertron mode Prime (who is now my most favourite Prime, even beating out G1 and 20th Anni Prime). I should have picked up Bee or Lockdown instead of the Indy figure, but, with the rather crappy location of Toy's R Us and the fact that Animated still isn't showing here, I don't think I'll need to worry about them running out of stock any time soon.

I'm trying to persuade my wife to let me go back next weekend and pick up Leader Megatron :D

Unfortunately, I don't have new sightings to add. I haven't seen a single new figure in a month. However, I just got the monthly newsletter from TRU and they're having a sale this month from 9/19 to 9/29 with up 30% off Transformers. Now, I don't know if it only applies to Movie figures or not, as they only used the Movie logo in the newsletter, but still, if there any Movie figures you're still needing, now may be the time to get them.

I'm thinking of picking up the Cannonball and Hotshot repaints since I don't have those moulds yet and they're both pretty sweet.

Finally, something new to report. Was at FE21 yesterday (thank you typhoon day) and they have the following new stuff:

Universe Robot Heroes (not sure what the selection was, but I did see a Cheetor in there)
Animated Voyager Wave 3!! I snagged Blitzwing, but they still have Grimlock and Lugnut.
Animated Prowl vs Deluxe Megatron two-pack. It would seem Megs still has the battle damage, but in the photos on the back it looks like the battle damage is now black instead of pink.

Oddly, the Prowl/Megs two pack was supposed to be released along with Wave 4 Deluxes, but when I asked if they had Swoop, they said the deluxes hadn't arrived yet. But hopefully, they will soon and I can snag me some Swooptastic goodness.

Toyland has finally got some new Animated figures. The one in Global Mall has a fair amount of Wave 3 Deluxes out now, finally replacing the wall of Movie crap. Unfortunately, they still don't seem to have anything past Wave 2 of the Voyagers. And their Universe collection consists of three Prowls and one Onslaught. But hey, we've finally got some new Animated Deluxes! Hopefully this means by the end of the month/mid-November, Swoop will arrive.

Oh, and if you're needing a MP Starscream (US version), it's been marked down from 1999NT to 1499NT...so naturally, I snagged one.
