The origin of the Transformers is obviously a hotbed issue.

Personally, I wouldn't want it being touched on in the movies.

Why?

Because most Hollywood writers are ignorant and unimaginative.

I've always rejected the Quint Origin as being far too base and unimaginative. " Robots are built, durrr, so who built them?" I can see why they thought that way, but it's very inside the box thinking.

The Primus origin is indeed noble, but its also metaphysical and thus religious.

No, instead I think Transformers evolved to be what they are. That shouldn't be hard to accept. They are an alien life form that came about by processes we are not really familiar with.

They appear mechanical as that is their biology. They represent a truly alien life form.

What I am worried about is that if there are Quints or any kind of builders of transformers they will be biological. Some slimy reptilian something.

I find that dull and completely typical.

I'm hoping that this line is just a lie told by Lockdown to manipulate Prime.
I have been into transformers since 1984.
While I love G1 I also love new innovations and takes on the characters.
I prefer official Hasbro releases of stuff for the most part
I'm not a huge fan of Japanese original Transformers media or designs.
It's easier for me to say which are my LEAST favorite toy lines: Beast Machines, Robots in Disguise.

Quickly sneaking in to remind everyone that everything, at this point, is still speculation. It could be something to do about the origin of Cybertronians, it could not be. It's not really a spoiler without any further context. Or it is.

BUT

I've always preferred a Quintesson origin story for Transformers.

I've always held to the idea, based on the original G1 cartoon, the Quintessons were galactic arms dealers. Their factory (Cybertron) became self-aware (Primus, like a benevolent Skywatch), and as it realized the Quintessons were building war machines for the conquest and subjugation of populations, Primus/Cybertron granted sentience to it's creations (the Autobots & Decepticons) to overthrow the Quintessons and free their conquered civilizations. Only problem was the Decepticons (the military product line), now that they possessed free will, retained the Quintessons war-like and imperialistic tendencies, while the Autobots fought for freedom.

I know there's not much in official canon to back that up, and it's totally riffing of a small amount of info provided by the G1 cartoon, but it's the story I spin in my own head for my own enjoyment. I would love it if the movie universe took cues from the original G1 cartoon and had shades of this origin story as well. I know that would probably make some people unhappy though... I guess to each his own and that's why they call it a "personal canon".

I still wish they'd address what the Transformers use as a power source though... since the Allspark's been gone, do they need Energon? Where are they getting it from on Earth???

I'd be happy with an Origin like this.

Me too. I have a similar origin in my head: robots warring over their creators and then at war over how to run the planet and what they should do with their sentience. Something tells me we all have some kind of origin like this in our collected consciousness.

But to go back to something, apart from the Quints, the first thing I thought of with this being a Michael Bay movie was an evil Alpha Trion (hopefulyl voiced by George Takei 8-} )

I am on it too, thats the concept made me love transformers on G1 and put all the pieces together on the puzzle, Quintessons ... creators (of destruction), Autobots, the creation with free will, hope of freedom, and my Decepticons, total domination!

This is the movieverse. If it does turn out to be the Quintessons, who's to say they won't be these big powerful creators in which a single one could pose a threat in a fight with an Autobot.

Also, Lockdown is speaking directly to Optimus. Therefore, we don't know for sure if this whole "you were built" thing pertains to all Cybertronians. It may just be Optimus.

Regarding "they vs. he", Optimus also says the line "They want to destroy us," in this trailer. I italicize the word "They" not merely to draw attention to it, but because of how Optimus speaks it. He doesn't merely say "They want to destroy us," but rather he emphasizes it as "They want to destroy us," as though he directly calling out a specific group of enemies rather than just any old enemies.

Regarding "Primus vs. Quints vs. Atechnogenesis" origins, I'm surprised barely anyone here has even brought up the most important thing in this matter: The AllSpark. That cube was already established as the source of all Cybertronian life, so by inserting some new creator(s) into the issue, that rewrites a crucial aspect of the AllSpark's role in the Movieverse lore.

Regarding an "evil Alpha Trion", really guys? People were already upset of DOTM making Sentinel Prime evil. Ya'll really want them to do the same to an even more revered and respected father figure of Optimus? And we already got that character in Shattered Glass Alpha Trion anyway.

Common sense says he was referring to the humans hunting the Autobots. Doesn't necessarily mean that's what it is. But if he is referring to the supposed main villain, that statement would contradict what Lockdown said when he supposedly said "They want you back." Why would "they" want to destroy them if "they" want him/them back? I say supposedly, because I'm still not decided on the "They/He" issue. But that's just me.

Not necessarily. The cube could be a tool for these "creators" to use, or have some other purpose. Just because it's the source of life for them, it doesn't mean it's the only means of their creation. It wasn't really elaborated on in the movies, other than what Optimus said in the 1st film.

Regarding an "evil Alpha Trion", really guys? People were already upset of DOTM making Sentinel Prime evil. Ya'll really want them to do the same to an even more revered and respected father figure of Optimus? And we already got that character in Shattered Glass Alpha Trion anyway.

I didn't think this would be a topic of serious discussion. If they were gonna bring in another "evil ancient" besides The Fallen, I doubt it would be Alpha Trion turned bad. I still say if we can't have Rodimus be a descendant/successor to Prime in bayverse, let him be a predecessor of some sort. If he is brought in as a bad guy, somewhat like Sentinel, I'd be willing to live with it. As long as he gets some character development. I don't think fans would be nearly as upset with him being bad as they were with Sentinel.

Finally something new. I must say, first time in years, I start to have tait that Bay's movie won't be a total failure.

I just hope that they (the creators, of course) use this plot wisely. If Prime have a dark origin, it could be used to give this universe some depth. Additional points if some dark forces beign used to excuse Prime's endless luck in RotF and DotM, let just say that it wasn't him, it was all thanks to his "Patron".

I just wanted to clarify that none of us here ever said we would LIKE to have Alpha Trion gone bad for the film. I actually think that DOTM was their version of that kind of plotline already.
It was only said (with a hint of sarcasm, I find) that it being Michael Bay and Ehren Krueger again, it would not surprise us greatly if it turns out to be that.

I like the idea that Lockdown is talking directly to Optimus, meaning that he was built while the others were created thanks to the all spark. Its all speculation but this is my favourite interpretation so far. It leaves us free of any other ancient evil/creator.

I know this is a dumb question but I keep asking myself who Optimus is on top of when he gets hit by Lockdown's gun face in the trailer. Is he on top of Galvatron?

He's fighting Galvatron when Lockdown guns him down. But when he says "Who sent you here?" Optimus is lying on a civilian car.

My Transformers origin story is a bit different than everybody else. Be warned I'm talking G1 and G2 style here. Anyway, my fictional Transformers origin is that the One created Primus and Unicron; one good one evil. They fight nonstop for thousands of years until all of the debris from space, due to their fighting, cover them into a ball, making them planets. Primus creates the 13 Primes by budding (the One gave both of them that ability) to defeat Unicron. Once Unicron is defeated, Primus starts budding metallic lifeforms. He gives some of them genes with the ability to bud no matter their gender. Primus told his sons and daughters that he was all about peace and told the Primes that the battle between he and Unicron must be kept secret so that the people can fear the Primes and not him. The growing population grew and the lifeforms started enhancing themselves by inventing things like copper wires, light bulbs, communication devices, batteries, etc. Primus renamed himself Cybertron because of the quick advancement of technology on the planet. Years pass and the Primes start a war among themselves, causing the Primes' bloodline to become extinct.

Cybertron was reconstructed and the Cybertronians decided to be ruled by emperors and the Great Council will act as a legislature and the judicial. Then the war begins between Autobot and Decepticon and Decepticon scientists invented machines that will track down Autobots with the budding gene. They capture the Autobots, reprogram them as Decepticons, so the army of Decepticons would grow, and the protoforms would carry the Decepticon legacy. [To add], the Quintessons would send spies on Cybertron so that they could map the entire planet and conquer it for power. That is my Transformers origin story.

Them being 'built' by something/one else doesn't have to contradict or negate the allspark's role in the movies. Building something and giving it life are not inherently the same. It's a principal going back since frankenstein's monster. Whoever built these robots could have created or even found this 'allspark' and used it to give the creations life, or at least sentience or a soul. We saw the Arielbots be built in G1, but they had no life until given it by vector sigma :D This is indeed how Takara's ret-con reconciles the 2 origins and allows Primus to exist in the G1 cartoon. Quintessons build the robots, but it is Primus (as/through Vector Sigma) that is responsible for their life force.

Also, ROTF clearly showed hatch-lings being born from 'eggs' in the Decepticon ship, so not every cybertronian is 'built'. We could assume from that that whilst the race may have originally been built, it has evolved in the absence of it's creators to birth it's own kind. (to quote Jurassic Park; Life finds a way :D)This could also be a result of the allspark's role.
Of course, we have no context to this line yet. Another poster may be right in saying Lockdown specifically means Optimus. It is Optimus he is capturing after all, at least that's what the trailers focus on. (no idea what the implications of that would be...)
It may even be a bit of mis-leading on the trailer's part and that line is actually being spoken to Galvatron some time during the film. It does seems to fit with Lockdown's lip sync on the scene with Prime however, but you can never be sure. It depends on how this all pans out.

i really hope thats just clever editing for the trailer cause i really dont want the quints to get screwed up next. We all know bay wont stick to the characters and wind up doing something stupid just cause he can. Would be better & more interesting if they were the other primes, the fallen was still around so why not others? Or maybe a group on cybertron wants prime back, that would explain why prime leaves. Maybe he was built by the last prime and hes still kicking & his group needs prime to return for what ever reason, maybe they need the matrix.

I also thought of that, but it makes sense that he would be saying it to Prime. If he was saying it to Galvatron, that means at some point Galvatron becomes sentient and of his own will, instead of being controlled by humans.

Didn't you watch the movie? All the other Primes died except for The Fallen because they sealed The Fallen away and they sacrificed themselves to hide the Matrix in their tomb.

Transformers: Age of Extinction Additional Promotional Stills and Tour Images - Human Cast

Postby Va'al » Tue Jun 17, 2014 11:33 am

Motto: "Till All Are Pun!"
With all the recent trailers, the focus has shifted onto the robotic cast of Transformers: Age of Extinction - but fear not, Paramount Pictures have made available a further look to that human element which both Nicola Peltz and Mark Wahlberg have talked about to the press. Check them out below, starting with some official images from Peltz and Jack Reynor's signing tour and their stop in Chicago, then moving on to actual movie stills, featuring Stanley Tucci, Li Bingbing, Wahlberg, Peltz, Reynor, and not-really-human Optimus Prime and fire-breathing Grimlock!

DISCLAIMER: The discussion thread below may contain (highly speculative) spoilers from the previously reported 'Built' trailer. Enter at your own peril.

That's actually the running theory some people have concerning Galvatron, from what I've read. I agree,it fits with the Prime scene though. But you never know with trailers.

Honestly, I like the idea of Lockdown's revelation mirroring what Galvatron and the Trax's may come to understand if they do gain sentience. Maybe 'real' cybertronians and human built ones are not as different as they may initially think. We all like a good rage against our creators in a search for our worth, after all :D

Whatever he means, that line certainly indicates this one could have a pretty decent plot. If nothing else it gives Lockdown a lot of character in this trailer.
