Hi to all. Here are my views on Transformers Prime: Sergeant Kup.
Big thanks once again to all at Kapow Toys - http://www.kapowtoys.co.uk in the UK! Superb service and super fast shipping speed as always. They still have some left if you want to grab one! http://tinyurl.com/cqmyxws

There are good and bad things about this figure so I think I will split it like that.
Image

These came from Hasbro Asia but this time came in the smaller multi language box. Smaller height, no tech spec and tiny Bio. The back has zero wording, so nothing about his modes or weapons. The Bio reads:
“Sergeant Kup delivers advice and encouragement, even in thick crossfire.”

Kup1.jpg

The truck mode is pretty nice but quite small for what it should represent. A definite green compared to the Generations Kup blue shade. It has a rather nasty lime green hood and side stripes.

Image
It does have a lot of nice little details on it though. Gold rollbar and roof lights. Plenty of areas for Reprolabels to be added. You can see his fists through the rear window.
A neat touch is Autobot logo outlines on his centre tyre rims. There is no actual logos on the alt mode though.

Kup3.jpg

He is essentially the Cyberverse version upscaled! Not by very much though. The details on the 2 are identical with the exception of the rear window and transformation.

Image
There are 2 micron ports on the sides and 2 in the rear, which is actually his feet! The cannons only fit on 1 way. You can give him jet thrusters for old timer turbo mode!
They fit on and blend ok. There is detail inside the barrel end so it’s not just a tube.

Kup5.jpg

The robot mode is very nice. A bit on the plain side with just green and black but used to not much paint now. He has a small Autobot logo, which I believe is the first Autobot TFP RID Deluxe to get one!
He has a fake windscreen chest which looks ok with good detail behind it.

He has a lot of articulation and very nice small details. Ball joints on the shoulders, elbows, hips and ankles. Swivel thighs and jointed knees.

Image
The head is on a ball joint and can move side to side. The back prevents it from moving more. It could be possible to swap the head but it would have to be small.
It has a kinda Kup look to it but I personally feel it’s more Ironhide.

It does have the "Revealer" feature that happens when you push his chest up.

The weapons can be held in his hands or on his arms. Also they lock together to form a Bazooka like gun. Again the same as the Cyberverse figure. I feel holding them as pistols suits him better.
What I plan on doing is giving the cannons to Takara AM Ironhide and give Kup the Micron or other gun.

In summary I feel Kup is a great figure and another nice addition to the line! His robot mode has lots of personality but his truck mode is a bit too small.
He really is an Ironhide repaint and if that came first I would have been happier. If it had I don’t think many would be buying this. We’ve been spoiled with the iGear Kup head.

But like all figures there are some negatives. :-( So I will post them next and some comparison images. I hope you liked my review. 8)

Now onto the bad parts. :-(

Image
There is a gaping hole in Kups rear! Right between his legs. This guy won’t be transporting anything. It’s not so bad with the guns hiding it but when did we see a Transformer car with no floor! I’m sure it helps the robot mode be kibble free but still.

Image
Also he seems rather small in alt mode. We all know the TFP guys are smaller than previous lines but for a truck he’s smaller than the cars! Others you feel could fit in a driver or 2. With Kup you would have to be tiny to fit inside him.
He’s the same length as Knock Out but if you compare windscreen and door sizes you will see what I mean.

Image

This is the Official way he transforms! The hood folds back and sits there. That's as far back as it goes! If it had a swivel hinge it would be perfect. Luckily there is a fix but not if you don't like partsformers.

Image

You can pull the hood off the hinge. Flip it around and reattach! Works a charm.
Not perfect as you run the risk of wearing the pegs down over a long time but so much better than before.

Also the inside of his legs are hollow. Nothing new now but with a hinged panel it could have covered them and the gaping hole in the truck mode too.

My only real problem with this figure is that he's.. Ironhide! If we didn't know we were getting one it would be fine. But with the Takara one a month away Kup doesn't say Kup to me. There are too many Ironhide looks. That plus I have the Cyberverse figure too. If there was a new head sculpt it would have at least been improved.

Some comparison pictures will be posted shortly. If anyone has some questions please ask and I will pop back and try and answer them 8)

I'm sorry, but this is a prime (hehe) example of what I'm talking about when I say that this line has a rediculous simianlook to it. His face looks like a monkey. His body is all bulbous with thin limbs...like a monkey.

WheelDrift looks TOTALLY Like a monkey, his face, his arms, he might as well come with bananas.

Megatron looks like a big gorilla/monkey.
Star Scream looks like a spider monkey.

Bumblebee looks like...well.like..Bay 'Bee.

Ratchet's fine.

Knock Out looks like a Monkey.

Breakdown looked like a Gorilla.

/end rant. :CON:

I have no idea what you're talking about. The only one who looks anything like a monkey/gorilla is Kup.

What was that he said about this guy being the first Autobot TFP figure to get an Autobot logo?

I'd say it was a functional figure but nothing thrilling. Will not be getting Kup but would like to get Ironhide.

Damn!! So Ironhide is a simple Kup repaint. I was hoping his head would be different. There is something about that trap-like mouth I just don't dig. It doesn't look like his head is on a ball joint so no hope for a 3rd Party to fix this, this, this mess! :VEHI:

The RID deluxe Autobots have had no Autobot logos on them out of the box. Some of the Decepticon ones have. Kup has one put on by Hasbro. Nothing amazing but people have mentioned it in other places. Maybe as Kup is unseen they didn't have to worry about screen accuracy.

I haven't tried it but there is a screw on the back of the head. I think it could be split to make a Dr Wu style face plate. The head is on a post with a ball joint at the bottom but it's in a tricky place to get out and stiff. Not sure if the head would pop out alone.
There is hope for a head but I doubt one would get made. Look forward to seeing what customisers do with him. They will make one for sure. 8)

I thought I would show both of the recent Kup figures off. But none of the TFP RID line are big compared to last years Generations range.
As you can see from the Bot line up he scales nicely in robot mode with the other Autobots

With a bit of retooling and repainting, they could have marked this figure as Gears and made money off of the G1 crowd that wants updates of all the original G1 figures.

Ah well...

No. Trust me, the Cyberverse Commander figure is MUCH better than this guy. No cheats, no excess pieces hanging off like the hood kibble. Only thing that sucks is he's smaller than a Deluxe, but he's a great mold.

Had they just upsized the Commander mold...he'd have been fantastic.

I forgot to mention that he does have the "Revealer" feature. It happens when you push his chest up and his head slides into place.

Thanks for taking the time to read my review everyone :)

:-? You're right, that thing does look more like Gears than Kup/Ironhide
