Any of the detail material, stay away from the "Strong and Flexible" type, it sucks and needs more work done to it than what's worth it.
I've got something in the Black detail and I really like it, you'll just need to sand and polish it though before you paint it.

I'd go with the transparent option. The finish is smoother, you can see the shapes you're working with, the plastic is a little softer (and therefore less prone to stress fractures), and it's easier to tell when the surface is ready to paint. Plus, light-piping!

This is what my game-accurate WFC/FOC Cliffjumper looks like with his new Shapeways head (cast in translucent plastic, painted in metallic red, silver, and clear blue eyes:
