This popped up on my recommended videos list a little while ago, but since you already made a thread and beat me to it...
I wasnt sure if it was judge dredd related, but When I saw the helmet. I yelled **** yes so loud it literally woke the neighbors.

Colour me worried. From that trailer it looks like they've made the same mistake as the 90s version and forgotten that above all else Judge Dredd is a dark COMEDY. The visuals look good, and I'll go see this regardless, but if this is just another soulless action movie rather than something written with British comic sensibilities in mind I'll be less than impressed.

It already looks so much better than the Stallone version..

The only thing I can see so far that Stallone did better was that frown. It seemed to come more natural to him than Karl Urban, but that's not really acting, it's just how Stallone's face is. And hopefully there won't be any British comedy. I'd like to enjoy the movie.

Unfair comparison. No one thought Stallone's was good, but it's a guilty pleasure and still fun to watch.

I like what I'm seeing, although I hope the 'trapped in a tall building' theme isn't the entire movie. If this movie really wanted to make me happy, the illicit substance would be Umptee's candy (anyone who read the comics or collections will get that)

I saw Dredd this weekend it was fantastic! Don't worry waaaaghlord, there was no dark comedy. Great movie, I hope to go again.

(also, helmet was on the whole time)

I didn't get to go this weekend, but I'm going sometime this week. It looks better than anything else out there, and I was surprised to see it tanked.

I was shocked to see that as well. I think the theaters have been soft lately. I am incredibility disappointed in that as it is a great movie and I would have loved some sequels.

I suppose as long as it gets a good DVD/Bluray treatment that will keep me going for a long time. I will have to shelve it next to Firefly and Serenity...

I saw it a few days ago in 3D. It was decent.

It was action packed enough, but I still find myself liking the Sylvester film better, despite Rob Schneider's goofy-ass character being in it.

I finally got to see it, and honestly, I was a bit disappointed. The action was good, the setting was good, but the story and Dredd seemed too plain. I actually ended up liking the rookie more by the end. The Stallone version was over the top in some aspects, but it was more entertaining. I did like the music in the new one better I still recommend it, if you have nothing to do on an afternoon.

Try this out. I found it very interesting.

That's why I think I liked Stallone's version better. I wanted to be entertained at the movie theater, not watch social commentary, no matter how far fetched it is. I do agree on 1 point the writer makes, about 10 minutes in, I thought "Damn, I'm watching a remake of RoboCop!" Which is ironic, considering that movie is getting a remake as well.

Amusingly that's why I like Urban's Dredd better: I wanted a little "meat" in the back of my mind. But I understand why you would pick Stallone's. I have a couple of 'guilty pleasure' movies as well were I watch them just for some off the hook entertainment without having to over think it.

Either way I'm getting the blu ray when it comes out...

Add me to those that are a bit surprised this hasn't done better at the theater. Decent reviews with a 76% at RottenTomatoes so for the people who value that how did they not go out? Then those who went cause they like comic movies or other reason have given it fairly good word of mouth such as here.

Just a bizarre turn, by all measurable rights this should be doing better....it deserves it, that's for sure.

I saw it again this weekend with my dad, in 3D this time. Still great. Criminal that more people aren't seeing it...
