Thanks for the info on Hellsing.

As for shows like Brave, I never get into them because of how long they are and how many episodes and OVAs there are.

King of Braves GaoGaiGar
Simply loved the series, it really deserved its fame. It took the concept of courage to a new level without making it look cheesy (Burning Justice anyone?). It probably helped that they focused on the team behind the mechs as well and that the A.I.'s actually had character to them. And who couldn't love Mic Sounders the 13th? A couple of highlights:

- Creative use of the Dividing Driver. Seriously, they though outside the box with it in some episodes
- Last ditch efforts, the series had quite a few of them
- The curveball after the main antagonist. Those familiar with the series know what I mean
- And of course: HIKARE NI NARE!

King of Braves GaoGaiGar FINAL
Of course, after watching the main series I had to watch the OVA. And it doesn't disappoint. It's true you are thrown into the deep end at the beginning with characters appearing in other media, but all necessary for the story is well explained. Besides, after 2 episodes one can put that behind them. Highlights:

- Flashbacks of Renée. Gruesome
- Politics. Seriously, you're lead to believe they'd throw a wrench into the series (and they actually can), then they all put up an act to not lose face. Well played.
- The individual Braves versus their Sol Master counterparts. Best fights ever, especially Genesic GaoGaiGar vs. Palparepa.
- GaoGaiGar vs. GaoFighGar deserves a mention too.
- And who could forget the ultimate ban-hammer: Goldion Crusher. Could one make a toy of that thing?

Brave Exkaiser
Yes, I went all the way to the beginning, and watched it RAW, no subtitles. If you're looking for GaoGaiGar quality in storyline and such, stay well back. It's definitely more geared towards kids with the humor and situations. I'm not saying it's bad, it's just different and it's enjoyable if you're open to it. No real noteworthy highlights here, really.

I may start watching Brave Police J-Decker next. :)

Where did you get these? Subtitled, I'm guessing? I'm dying to see these.

There are only two OVA's, really:

- Brave Command Dagwon: The Boy with the Crystal Eyes
- King of Braves: GaoGaiGar FINAL

Grand Glorious Gathering is merely FINAL with some added scenes.

As for the shows themselves, 48 episodes is pretty much the norm for any series. :)

Sorry is that 48 episodes per series? Or 48 episodes combined? Over in youtube land theres like, 50 different videos from Brave, all with different robots. Just makes me think there would be more then that.

48 to 50 per series, however each series is stand-alone, they're not connected in-universe at all. So you can pick out the ones you like without missing anything of the other series.

If you need a good place to start, Brave Express Might Gain and King of Braves GaoGaiGar are the cream of the crop to most, and Brave of Legend Da Garn also seems good, coming from the same writer as GaoGaiGar.

Just finished watching the first two episodes of Brave Police J-Decker, and it's promising. I originally thought it would be a "lesser" series, but it's growing on me already. I'll tell you guys more when I finish the whole series. :)

Maybe watching Brave Exkaiser RAW wasn't such a good idea... :-?

Oh man, that looks great! I should have finished the original!

Also, I finished High School of the Dead, season 1. It starts out great, but then after about episode 6 or so it just feels rushed, and ends at the drop of a hat. If season 2 ever comes out, I may not even bother.

So, my next thing is Samurai 7. Good? Bad? I like it so far!

Ok, at the halfway point marked with a clip show, and it's gone way past my initial preconceptions. I may have only seen 3 Brave shows so far, but J-Decker may become my favourite already next to GaoGaiGar. :) I won't spill the beans until after I finish the whole run (which may not take long at 5 episodes a day), but I can tell you that if you've passed on it you don't know what you're missing ;)

Um sure?

Anyways I'd definitely recommend S7.

On a different note has anyone seen season 2 of darker than black?

Right, I've finished Brave Police J-Decker, time for a small writeup. :)

Remember how I said it could be my favourite Brave series so far? It sure is, and it totally deserved it. Even if you're not a real fan of Super Robot anime, it's worth a watch.
Whereas GaoGaiGar had focused on one's courage, be it human or robot, J-Decker focuses on one's heart and Super A.I. development. Each major character has a unique personality and you can't help but love some of them. The more you watch the show the more insight you get with them, personally I got really attached to some. :)
It starts off slow, with each character getting a spotlight episode, but things get really serious in the second half. Subject matter can be surprisingly adult for a kid's show, some episodes are downright tear-jerking, while others make you think about what somebody is and the validity of one's existence. To be balance it out some episodes are downright silly and comedic.
One of the better things is that full combining sequences are used sparingly, especially in the second half. To save screen time and keep the pace of action up, the robots either show up on the scene fully combined or combine instantly after the command's been given. Highlights:

- Easter Eggs galore! You'll find lots of reused Brave designs, and others from popular culture if you look close enough.
- Combining is similar in nature to GaoGaiGar, in that the robots must have a certain state of mind for the combination to succeed. Thus, first combos are bound to fail.
- One episode features a giant panda, I mean a GIANT panda. Of course, the "don't hurt the panda" rule applies, so... He's so cute! :x
- The boy crossdressing as a girl in one episode... Yes, he's a boy.
- The final 3 episodes make a lot of unexpected turns in the plot, yet don't crash and burn.

In short, this entry in the Brave series is tamer than others, but makes up for it with character and heart. Again, if you choose to skip it you do it at your own risk. :)
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

Samurai 7 is on Netflix.

I haven't actually watched anything lately because most seem the same. You get the super powered guy who's the main character and has to fight other super powered guys who happen to have the same powers but are stronger. Or when a main character is about to die from this super epic fight, he/she pulls out some super move that they've always had the ability for and never used it 'till then. It all gets kind of old after a while. But I've actually been looking up things on Youtube and some have caught my eye. so the next one I'm going to watch is Sword Art Online. That looks pretty good even though it might have what I mentioned earlier.

I remember VHS! I also remember how it's been replaced three times over. If you can only find it on VHS, you're better off just pirating it.

In other news, I'm watching Soul Eater on Adult Swim, and it is awesome and I love it.

Okay so I couldn't find Sword Art Online so I checked to see what Netflix had. I ended up watching Canaan. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't super awesome either. But I just downloaded Crunchyroll on my phone and I found Sword Art Online on there with subs. So I'm going to start that later. Anybody have any suggestions on what to watch afterwards?

I'm not sure how I missed this but I found this awesome dbz parody series on Youtube by teamfourstar. I laughed my assignment(i typed in ass but this is what SwiftKey gave me so I'm going with it) off for hours today. They have up to the beginning of the Trunk's saga done and it is so worth it to watch.

DBZ: The Abridged Series. Honestly, the only Abridged series ever to hold my attention was Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series, which also happens to be the original. I very, very much didn't want to, since, like many people, I can't stand the concept of Yu-Gi-Oh, but relented at the insistence of a douchebag friend of mine who happened to be right.
