Yuyu Hakusho was epic. Anybody watch Blue Submarine #6? What's that about? I never watched it back in the day and I caught the one episode back in april.

A mad scientist causes mass flooding, destroying a good portion of the Earth, then begins attacking the survivors with human-animal hybrid monsters. It's only four episodes long, and, like you, the Adult Swim episode was my only real exposure to it.

A live action scene of anime. So I thought this should fit well. I thought it was cool because I'm also a martial arts fan too.

Yeah I should've said it was Naruto instead of leaving you guessing 'till you clicked it. My bad. But they're American actors that just happen to know Japanese. Their Street Fighter x Tekken short was awesome too. In this, using the dark hadou awakens the devil gene inside.

Even if they don't, I wouldn't mind. It's how it was presented was awesome. Like how Hulk vs Wolverine ended.

So in Naruto, I've only read up to wear he defeated Pain. But I hear it's gotten way more epic since then so I might get back to reading it.

Dude, it parodies everything from Gundam to Transformers and it's not the first to do that.

Gunmen = Gundam is the most obvious.
Gunbuster, just google that and take a look at the images you'll see what I mean.

I noticed one or two TF references when I watched it but can't point them out to you.

Then there is Viral's Gunman who looks a hell of a lot like the bots from Neon Genesis.

A few cameos here and there but no, it isn't. Cameo =/= parody. You're thinking of Megas XLR. Yes, it started as a parody of the Super Robot genre, but by Episode 8 it walked right past parody into the genuine article.

It ended as a parody too, the whole end fight with the sheer ridiculousness and had a very "Oh look, this is what happens in these kinds of shows" feel to it. Just because it was serious at times doesn't make it less of a parody. It even included a time jump as a joke of "ha, remember how you somehow manage to miss a few super important episodes with shows like this and feel left out?"

What? Time-skips aren't a form of parody, tons of shows use them. Gundam 00 and Gundam AGE both did it twice each, and Gundam is a staple of giant robot fiction.

You made a pretty bad call with this one.

Time skips happen alot. Naruto, Dragonball, 666Satan, Gurren Lagann, Gundam. Time skips wouldn't be a parody even in a parody cartoon. They just happen when nothing happens during that time(skip). Even if something did happen, there's like a flashback to it. Like how Jiraiya tells people how Naruto almost killed him turning into the fox.

Yes of course because time skips usually happen in the middle of a multi-part story ark just to return in the middle of another multi part storyline.

Um...the time skip happened between story arcs. Team Dai-Gurren defeats Lordgenome, then it skips ahead seven years for the Anti-Spiral story arc. I think you actually just missed an episode.

Nope, I'm talking about the first time skip, the one that happens after Lord Genome teases Virol with the origin of the Beast men and what humans are.
The next episode takes place a month later on the 7th day of the battle against lord Genome.
Check episodes 13 and then 14, then tell me I missed an episode.

Well, you're right about there being another time skip, it's a been a couple years since I watched the show. But there's no real break in the story, and the viewer is never left hanging on what happened, like you're saying. "It's Day 6 of the battle, we're here, bad guys are there. Good to go? Good to go."

Oh, and it's day six, not seven.

So you're still dead wrong about it being a parody. And no amount of arguing is going to change that, in fact, it's just making you look sillier.

Unless you want to start calling Gundam 00 a parody, they did literally the exact same thing.

So what if it's day six, at least I remembered it happened unlike you.

You should maybe rewatch the show to refresh your memory of it and then come back and say it's not a fun parody of the genre.
Because as it stands this is just another instance of you barging in on something only grasping half of what's going on and still thinking you can talk about something, like all those other times you comment on one of my posts because one line in it somehow managed to offend you in such a way that you completely ignore everything else about it and the rest of the discussion and then look like a complete and utter tool.

Remember duke Nukem Forever, Megatron in ROTF or me not caring for Star Wars?

Not a parody of anything specific, more a broad parody of the genre and pretty much everything in it made me believe it was.

Well to tell you the truth, it's not. Calling this a parody is like calling every mech based anime a parody of Gigantor. Or calling every other anime a parody because they have funny moments in them. The time skip thing, we've shown you that it has nothing to do with being a parody either. And what other anime do you see from people living underground to throwing galaxies? This question just makes me call it one thing. Overkill

Again, I'm not talking about the second time skip, that one was a natural one, I'm talking about the "WTF is going on? did I miss a couple of episodes?" one from episode 13 to 14, the one that did not say it was a time skip but purposely made to look like part of a multi-part story.

It doesn't just have funny moments, it goes over the top with them, while pointing out the clichés of the genre. The whole thing with being so over the top is a common thing with parodies, you take something silly that's very common in a genre or medium and poke fun of it by going utterly insane with it.

Like the supper powerful Spiral energy being the "power of love", or the super over the top ridicules final battle in which they combine with the universe. (spoiler tags since I don't want to spoil the ending and I want people to watch the show.)

Like the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles originally did, which parodied the dark, gritty and violent comics that where getting popular at the time by letting four Turtles being the ones who dish out all the violence.

And that's what Gurren Lagann did so great, it poked fun at the genre, included clever references to stuff, but still managed to have it's own story so it can be enjoyed by people not familiar with the genre and the stuff it parodies.
