With Missy I was wondering if she was connected to the tardis or, on an extremely long shot, a dark manifestation of Riversong, like how in old who the Valeyard was the darkest part of the doctor. Though when Missy was cast the Rani was my first guess as well.

Wow, okay, I was not expecting unmarked spoilers. Good thing I scrolled past the majority of them, considering it's still 20 minutes before it airs here...

Just caught it, I got to say, I'm not incredibly impressed. Now, this is the start of a new Doctor, but I thought Capaldi was too scattered for my taste.

Just seemed very un-developed, but I'm holding out for a few episodes before I make a final judgement on the character, hopefully he'll get more together as we continue

Ah, now this presented a very intriguing mystery for the rest of the series, particularly her comment of "Welcome to Heaven!" , which alludes to the end of this season...Death in Heaven

So, to avoid any spoilerish theory's I'll spoiler my ideas.

Well, I'm betting that it isn't River Song, I think we've said goodbye for a while, which I'm sad about. Anyways, my money is on Romana or the Rani.

Ahh i completely forgot Romana, just like the show has forgotten E-space  River Song isnt my strongest guess either but at this point any theory is fair game, even the one about missy being a female master just so they have an excuse to make the doctor female at one point.

Which is normal for post-regeneration.

And there's no need for spoiler tags. This episode was broadcast around the world within hours of it airing in the UK.

So six people complained to Ofcom (British tv watchdog) about the first ep, two guesses which bit they complained about.

Hm...

Well from a fan perspective, maybe the possibility about the Doctor having pushed the Clockwork man?

From a person who reports the most ridiculous stuff perpective, the Clockwork man harvesting organs?

Look at the article Va'al linked. Plus if there's sex(or things related to) to complain about, no one cares about the violence, unless you were Mary whitehouse, she was quite vocal about doctor who in the 70s.

You keep your weird fetishes out of this thread.

I thoroughly enjoyed the episode and am looking forward to the rest of the series. For too long I thought they were taking Dr Who in the wrong direction by constantly making him 'young and fresh' to appeal to younger audiences. It'll be interesting to see him go back to a more Hartnell/Pertwee-esque performance.

This was a very interesting episode, drawing on past dalek stories like Genesis of the daleks.

Wasn't really a "major" episode, we were teased that it would "explore the darker side of The Doctor" ... but not really. Other than being called a "Good Dalek", which I suppose he is because he does have a tendency to destroy things.

And this episode also saw the introduction of Danny Pink who is going to become a "companion" of sorts, hopefully that's all and not a love interest for Clara. Can we just go a season without love interests?

I doubt it, I think the demand for love interests must come from above the head writer as it's something that's plagued most of new who...apart from Donna though.

Yeah but she had her grandfather. For some reason this new series feels like companions must have a connection to back home.

True, never thought of it that way. One reason, I guess, could be that through that connection they have a reason to go back for episodes set on present day earth. My thing is why the main assistant is always a girl (of.course I know this started near the end of Peter Davidsons run as the doctor). Are they worried what people would think if the doctor was traveling around with another guy?

EDIT: Scratch that, just remembered that the third doctor travelled with only female companions as did the majority of the fourth doctors run. Though I guess it's not so bad as they didn't want to stick their tongues down the doctors throat.

I really enjoyed that episode which was probably my favourite for a long, long time. I was having a discussion with my friend before watching about how most Dalek episodes, Remembrance and Dalek aside, are usually incredibly disappointing. If I wasn't sure about Peter Cipaldi before because of quite a weak script in his debut episode, consider me well and truly 'in' for his interpretation of the Doctor. Gone is the over-excited and hypo behaviour of Matt Smith and behold a very sarcastic, condescending and altogether grumpy bastard Doctor.

The overall plot was strong too. I loved the idea of going 'into' a Dalek and the references back to Genesis as already pointed out. I did get a sense of deja vu with the whole 'Dalek having feelings' idea, but at least we didn't see Rusty blowing himself up after discovering them at the end. I have a very funny feeling that we've seen the foundations being set for a future Dalek civil war and I'm looking forward to seeing Rusty again.

Also, it's my guess that Missy is the Rani too. I love that character just because she's so amorally-batshit insane. Anybody who has seen Michelle Gomez before knows that she's ace, so that's something to look forward to as the season goes on.

Much more interesting then the previous episode. I felt that Capaldi was more settled in this one, although the Doctor is always weirder after his regeneration. I do feel he's more detached then most Doctors, including giving the soldier the pill-thingy and having him killed, just so they can escape. As much as I love Doctor Who, I'm finding it harder to "love" this new Doctor.

The bit regarding the Dalek seeing the Doctor's hatred was absolutely __________! (We need a catchphrase from 13!)

@BlastCannon yeah I know what you mean about Michelle, I was watching Green Wing with her in. She's completely bonkers in that.

See I like seeing this dark part of the doctor, at certain parts I get vibes from the first doctor, plus with the revelation of the war doctor, there's probably a bit of that in there.

How did the Doctor have the guy killed? The soldier was going to die anyway, the Doctor just set things up to give everyone else a fighting chance.

Seriously! People actually complained about that! I personally find it refreshing to see a unashamedly homosexual relationship in a prime time show that is geared towards younger viewers, the BBC should be congratulated for such broadcasting. I watched it with my kids (aged 5 and 3) neither them or myself batted an eyelid at the "kiss".

Turns out that the BBC cut that scene out for the version broadcast in Asian countries. Their reason was so it didn't fall foul of Singapore's broadcasting laws. It's got people angry about the cut mind. Apparently BBC is dammed if they do, dammed if they don't.

I'm pretty happy about this current season. I was exited to see "Into the Dalek" due to two factors:
1 Dalek episode
2 Peter Jackson directing it

Then I realized it wasn't directed by Peter Jackson and was even happier because that means we'll get at least another Dalek episode this season. :D

I really do enjoy 12, he's a grumpy old man who's tired of all this sh*t happening to him. Sure I liked 10 and 11, but it's high past time to have a much more classic Doctor again. And to top it off not have him be a "boyfriend Doctor", I was really pretty sick of all that romance drama concerning dumb bimbos who just want to get into the super old alien's pants.

I'm also interested to find out what "explanation" they have for there now being three Capaldi played characters in Doctor Who, one of which being the Doctor. They already hinted at it in the first episode. My guess, his subconscious picks the face of someone he saw or met at some point in his life.

If you count Torchwood as part of Doctor Who, then yes (I haven't seen it, but I am assuming I'll love it.)

But yeah, referencing the fact that he's seen this face before, it's very curious. Much like when Colin Baker played that Gallifreyan general in that 5th Doctor episode and the 6th Doctor looked a lot like him...

It's always been hinted at in the series, mainly by Romanavelentura, that Time Lord's can, more or less, control their features during regeneration or afterwards ("Might just bring down the age, just to freak people out."). And it would explain the possible future Doctor in the 50th anniversary special talking about how the younger Doctor would be seeing some old faces again...
