This isn't really the case, though. That people get horny is not a problem. That they have no respect for others is the problem.

Indeed. I missed my wife a great deal when I was in country, but i never thought of raping someone.

I meant for the person committing the act. Basic human urges are hard to control and keep in check. Breathing, eating, having sex, and other things are simply encoded in humans as something that MUST be done. It's hard to go against it. Please don't misunderstand, I'm not in any way excusing rape, not at all. As far as I'm concerned rape should be punishable by castration, not just some time behind bars. And this goes for child molestation as well. And yes, breathing and eating are totally essential for individual survival, but sex is essential for the survival of a species, which is why the need for it is driven by genetics. Unfortunately, some people cannot utilize the socially acceptable ways to perform sex.

So what do the big brother fans out there think of the behavior of the house guests this year? I myself think it's reprehensible. I just can't believe that they are so short sited that they aren't thinking about after the house.

I know I know I just admitted to watching BB, what can I say I'm Interested in sociology.

Not disagreeing, just throwing in some more ideas, (also, hey, teh rod!)

Men and Sexual Desire.

Yes. Men get horny. But that doesn't obviate the need for consent or respect. The whole burqa thing is because women are considered SO HOT and SO SEXY that men seeing, say, their noses would be completely incapable of controlling their lust.

I do not know how this line of thinking creates a masculinity any man would choose to follow--doesn't that say men are so weak they can't even look at things without just...losing it?

I reject that. Men should have self-control, even if they can't manage respect for their sexual partner.

HK, also, womenfolks get frisky urges too. Just sayin'.

How does one's government shut down? The American political system is a funny ol' thing.

That's like asking how you lose a global empire.........
I suspect stupidity and arrogance have played a big part though.

It's not the system, but those who abuse it are at fault. Not saying the system is flawless, but it really is up to its participants to keep it uncorrupted.

Well the answer to your query is very simple and, I suspect, not at all like asking how the domestic political system of the 'greatest democracy in the world' shuts down for a period of time. I doubt burgeoning independence movements and the difficulty of logistics would help explain my original question. ;)

I'm of the opinion that we encourage the wrong sort of people, the affluent and 'intellectual', into politics. They have very little appreciation or scope of what life is really like from their own experiences, so is it any wonder that the world is the way it is when we have these ignorant fools in charge?

If last night was anything to go by, the only thing that is 'up' and associated with KingMob is my dissatisfaction at his levels of sexual performance. Viagra or no Viagra it simply isn't working and I'm thinking of going elsewhere.

Are you single, Cyber Bishop?

Isn't this supposed to be the "intellectual discussion" thread? Where we ponder and propagate the dominant social issues of our time?

And I doubt CP would care for 136 singing testicles in his face.

Now, for something a little thought-provoking: if you could, would you rather want to know how you died or when you died? Or neither? Why?

I wouldn't want to know either and I don't think anyone should know either. That kind of power could easily corrupt your thinking.

On a further note. If a person found out when they were going to die could they change it? Could they say kill themselves earlier or is it an absolute? If they could change the outcome how would that then affect existence? Would it break reality? Would it render powerless the entity/machine that made that death a certainty? Will Nemesis Maximo wear a muffler for no reason in July?

Tough question...

I probably wouldn't want to know how I would die, however, knowing when could be beneficial. It would be a sort of "due date", meaning getting everything you've always wanted to get done before the date, if that means anything.

It's broken??? I can see it just fine. :?

Oh well. The image is of a question on a school exam. It asks "Some atoms share electrons to become more stable. Describe a situation where something is shared and everyone benefits." The answer on the page is "Communism."

I was asking if you agreed with the answer, and what your opinion is on the system of communism in general.

i think the idea behind communism isn't bad, a society based on equal sharing. however, it has never been executed the way it should. there are always those who profit more, and always an upper class society who treat themselves very well.

as best described in george orwells' book "animal farm" : all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others

You directly contradict yourself by being empathetic to humans and their natural biological urges in regards to sex and say the only true form of punishment for rape is castration. That is an incredibly harsh punishment from someone who seems to understand that such crimes stem from a clear psycholgical inbalance.
They simply just need to be either removed from society altogether or "corrected" with treatment. Mutilation isn't the proper coarse of action.
