Too bad the show is ending... At least it lasted a decent amount of time though. I hope the next show ends up being as good as Prime has been.

so its really only 13 episodes? what the hell is that about?

they make two 26 episode seasons and then the final one that should end things is shortened? the "65 for syndication" thing doesnt even make sense since they'd still hit that number if they did another 26. besides, outside of primetime cartoons, i dont see any other animated series air in syndication anymore...that seems like 80s/90s mentality with all the dedicated cartoon channels these days not to mention the internet.

i sincerely hope they've mapped it all out properly and it wont feel rushed or like its lacking anything.

It's undoubtedly a money thing. Hasbro wanted to hit the minimum and get 65 so they could replay it in syndication, something they haven't been able to do with previous series since G1. That we're also getting a three part 'movie' thing is a bone throw to ourselves and the showrunners to give it a proper conclusion, albeit a slightly rushed one.

I'm sure Hasbro was considering doing another 26 episode season after the first two, but ultimately some bean counter decided against it and they ordered just enough episodes to sustain the new toyline, and are probably already preparing whatever the successor is.

It's what they wanted to do from the very start.

Bouncy X wrote:besides, outside of primetime cartoons, i dont see any other animated series air in syndication anymore...
And for good reason. Most cartoons these days aren't worth airing in syndication.

But that just goes to show how good Prime is, that it's a cartoon that is worthy of syndicated airing.

Though, I can provide an example of a non-sitcom cartoon airing in syndaction. My local WMOR station, which is an independent network, airs CN's Star Wars: The Clone Wars series as part of its programming, which is all syndicated reruns of adult shows and sitcoms.

On the other hand, Prime could possibly be considered a primetime cartoon since all its new episodes have only aired at night on the Hub. ;)

Bouncy X wrote:i sincerely hope they've mapped it all out properly and it wont feel rushed or like its lacking anything.
To be frank, they already have rushed through their plans. The three-to-four years worth of story material they had planned out wound up getting covered all the way through by the end of season 2. The Beast Hunters theme came as a late decision and was added after the fact.

I remember reading that announcement as well. However, it don't think it had any concrete proof to confirm or deny what you're claiming. The G1 series went on much longer in Japan (ie Headmasters, Victory Force, etc) than in the states. If this rumor is true, it could be the same universe but with just a different label.

If any info that I've stated in my theory above is false, feel free to correct me.

Even though its a bayformer spawn, it was a good series. I hate to see it go.

I'm gonna miss this show. It was just plane fun. Looking back, I remember some pretty campy times...

Like Screamer dancing when Megs died, Arcee's angsty...um, angst, etc.

Now don't get me wron, I love Mr. Cullen as Prime...(puts on ballistic helmut) but I found his performance to be somewhat copied/pasted from the films, just less angry.

But on the positive side, we had decent plots, an awesome Megatron, and a hot-headed rookie who wasn't despiccable.

And now that it's over, we can start dreaming that they will animate LSOTW. THAT...would be sweet.

I thought the show had promise at the start, but it went downhill fast in my eyes and overstayed its welcome. I hope the next show is better, closer to Animated in writing quality.

In one way it does suck that it is the final season ,but Prime did have a good run ,and all good things must come to an end .I do hope that the TV movie does happen to give Prime a conclusion it deserves .

Seriously? Animated was so obviously aimed at children, Prime is for a more mature audience.

I wanted more Prime, it was really one of the best series despite the children and the outnumbered Autobots. I wish whatever what hasrbo is cooking next, is something with this quality or more, and no CGI it will limit the series like Prime, we want more characters, fleshed out character....and more toys :p

I've been lucky enough to catch every series since G1 and liked them all for different reasons whether it be G1 & Car robots wealth of characters, beast wars character development or animated's Easter eggs. Here's hoping for a strong finish. Tell you what though from the preview smokescreen better not get a matrix and change his paintjob to red with flames.

I think the next series could use more characters/warriors similar to G1 it seems most of the time it's a 5 on 5 give or take a character. You need soldiers for war and not just drones.

not like Animated dealt with PTSD, the equivalent of child soldiers, genetic experimentation, loss, betrayal, espionage, the subject of corrupt governments, and killed off plenty of dudes of its own, nope.

Animated may have skewed younger but it still handled mature topics, and its plotting was better. Prime may have had more money thrown at it for animation, and may be aimed at an older audience, but its plots have been repetitive and poorly handled.

I was really hoping that this would be a 4-5 season series. TFP had enough story for that much, honestly. Here's to hoping that the final season doesn't screw us all over and leave us with immense levels of disappointment.

You're talking about tone, not writing quality. Preference of tone is completely subjective, so if you can't stand the more kid-friendly bent of Animated I get why you like Prime better.

Writing quality, on the other hand, can be measured, and I think Animated was much better than Prime in that respect. I know there are reasons for it, but Prime frequently wrapped up potentially interesting ongoing plot lines before they could go anywhere, and did so in a way that was not satisfactory at all. It also failed to make the comparatively few characters really interesting, aside from the precious few like Knock Out and Starscream. Animated made much better use of the time that it had to work with. It had a better understanding of how to abandon a side story early, sometimes by not wrapping them up and just leaving us at a cliff hanger that wouldn't hurt too badly, and each of its many characters got to stand out in a way that left a lasting impression even if they only appeared in one scene.

I personally like the tone of both shows, but I know once Prime is over I will never go back and watch it the whole way through again, while I have watched the entire run of Animated from beginning to end three times so far, as well as individual episodes several more times.

Comparing Animated and Prime maybe isn't a fair test. Try comparing it to a different show with the same tone. There are much better shows than Prime in its category, but few that show the same level of careful crafting as Animated among shows aimed at that audience.

Atop of what CaptainMagic said, I think Prime and Beast Machines are better to compare rather than Animated and Prime. They're both dark in tone, they were both done in CGI, and they both have limited casts.

Big difference being, BM's limited cast was due to there actually being no other characters floating around that they could pull in, Megs had all the sparks.

Prime however ... there's a Universe full of them out there, but we're stuck with the same core group of characters because Hasbro don't want to invest money into new characters. (Quite insulting to children really to think they wouldn't be interested in characters other than the Red and Yellow crew)

Yeah, he didn't actually break out into a dance session in the actual episode.

It was when Megatron later went inside his head and re-watched that scene with a new disco moment added in, courtesy of Screamer's fantasizing. :P

Yeah, kinda bites when you got a Cortical Psychic Patch showing all your inner thoughts in HD quality, 'specially when the guy whose dead brother's grave you mucked up with is watchin'.
