I liked it; in fact, it brought me back to being a Transformers fan again. (I have vague memories of watching the series when I was a kid, but I was so little that like most of the stuff I watched back then I didn't remember much of it.)
It's certainly a different dynamic than the series. The cartoons/comics are very, ah, four-color superhero-like, I think... larger-than-life robotic heroes fighting the scenery-chewing villains while the humans mostly run around like little Ewoks.
Whereas in the movie, the TFs feel so much more *alien*... even the Autobots are a little creepy, especially with that eerie musical score. Meanwhile, the Decepticons are quite nasty and frightening; much more science fiction-y all around. The battles are just undeniably awesome, as well - I found myself replaying the bits with Bonecrusher smashing the bus and Starscream stomping on the jets, for instance. And personally, I like the fact that the humans came off as being more useful than simply cannon fodder.
So, both have their appeal to me. The "superhero" dynamic fits the small screen and a series format quite well, but the more SF feel of the movie is the sort of thing I want to see on the big screen. Just hopefully they give us a bit more characterization next time to go with the awesome battles. One of the things I liked about the series is all the quirky characters...
