Welcome to the General Discussion area where just about anything goes! This area is designed to discuss all matters and does not necessarily have to be Transformers related. Please keep topics relevant.

The ladies thread...and some guys tf discussion and off topic chatter about fun things as well as tf

Postby Sky Glory of Iacon » Tue Oct 23, 2007 12:08 am

I desided to start a ladies thread so women who think they are alone can come and get to know other female transformer fans.

Enjoy

I liked it; in fact, it brought me back to being a Transformers fan again. (I have vague memories of watching the series when I was a kid, but I was so little that like most of the stuff I watched back then I didn't remember much of it. )

It's certainly a different dynamic than the series. The cartoons/comics are very, ah, four-color superhero-like, I think... larger-than-life robotic heroes fighting the scenery-chewing villains while the humans mostly run around like little Ewoks. ;)

Whereas in the movie, the TFs feel so much more *alien*... even the Autobots are a little creepy, especially with that eerie musical score. Meanwhile, the Decepticons are quite nasty and frightening; much more science fiction-y all around. The battles are just undeniably awesome, as well - I found myself replaying the bits with Bonecrusher smashing the bus and Starscream stomping on the jets, for instance. And personally, I like the fact that the humans came off as being more useful than simply cannon fodder.

So, both have their appeal to me. The "superhero" dynamic fits the small screen and a series format quite well, but the more SF feel of the movie is the sort of thing I want to see on the big screen. Just hopefully they give us a bit more characterization next time to go with the awesome battles. :P One of the things I liked about the series is all the quirky characters...

I don't feel alone at all.:)

In fact, female TF fans are NOT as "nearly extinct" as female Transformers. Yep, there's MANY of us out there everywhere - at TF forums and Deviantart, too!

So no, I don't feel lonely at all as a female TF fan. :P

Friendly note ... if you girls have any problems with guys don't hesitate to contact the Mods.

Simply put ... there's been problems in the past. Though I think things are a lot better these days and there shouldn't be any problems.

Have fun! 8)

What a great analysis! However, I do like the idea of humans being fodder. :-P

Right on. And contact those of us who are willing to beat the others with spiked clubs, in case the mods can't get to it right away.

*board members whisper and point*....what? You don't want me to use the club on people?

Well that sucks! Might as well just give up the battering ram and everything else while I'm at it!

...oh...you want that too? Crap. In a hat.

Fine then. [-(

In all seriousness...please feel free to enjoy yourselves here. Don't hesitate to PM/IM your fellow Seibertronians as well. Everyone needs someone to listen to, even if it's just to vent because someone's being an idiot.

It's amazing how good it feels just to have someone give a crap.

Most of the guys on here are pretty cool. I don't really have any complaints. Besides, you get cool points if you're a chick that likes Transformers...as long as you don't make Starscream in love with another male Transformers, you're ok.

I appreciate the source of the sentiment of reassuring the female populace that the male populace will defend them against all comers.

However, I think it is a little presumptuous to assume that the female members cannot take care of themselves and the idea that you think they need help might actually be offensive to some of them?

Not to derail this thread, just my 2 cents thrown into the pool for equal treatment in thought as in kind.

P.S. This was not meant as an attack on anyone who posted here. Just kinda a raising awareness type of post that there is a fine line between chivalry and chavenism. Then again, maybe I'm just half asleep and typing rubbish. If so slap me in a PM. ;-)

Friendly reminders of modpower > flamewars propegated by females intent on defending themselves.

Anyway, hi! I'm Armgnawer, and I love chocolate, small furry animals, and hiding away the pilfered digital arms of those who annoy me on the internet.

...did someone mention deviantart? Because I love surfing deviantart. I might have to add more users to my watched list, providing that's ok.

Mmm, truffles :d

But seriously, yay for us female Transformers fans! Several of my female friends love TF also, so I don't feel so alone. My brother thinks I'm insane for liking TF so much, though I've been slowly converting him to the fandom (at least with the movie because he thinks their weapons rule), and my parents support my fandom, LOL! It's awesome :D

Heh! Well, it is kind of entertaining, but it's also really overdone... the idea of humans doing nothing but running around screaming while giant monsters run around either shooting at them or each other has been done in almost every "giant monster" movie ever. ;)

Plus, if you're going to use Earth as nothing but a fancy battleground, I'd rather just skip it and have everything set on some other alien planet instead.

As for the topic of female Transformers fans... I've always managed to like things that stereotypically have more male fans than female fans. So one, it doesn't bother me in the slightest to be around lots of men, because I like hanging out with men a lot, and can hold my own if need be. And for two, I know the divide usually isn't as large as people might think. And for three... most people online tend to think I'm a guy anyway unless I state otherwise. :P

Plus, in my experience, women make more of a big deal of it than men do. For instance, I once worked at a software store where I was the only girl working there. The other employees and the male customers treated me just like any other employee in the store - it was the *female* customers who made a huge deal about "Wow, a girl who knows computers!". ;)

I know the following will sound like I am a know it all please don't take it too hard...

See that is what Micheal bay cannot do is charectorization. I study film and I was amazed that they also they for got that jazz's abilty was not to repeat human slang but also to give off disorienting light and sound shows as a way to bring down the enemy.
Also He got killed off!!!! Bay should have known that was a big no-no!
I find Bay's films lacking a lot of things like Joy. Also in the film i noticed consistancy issues like the allspark in the film when i went to see it was called The cube then the all spark then the cube again. I also noted the barrcade bone crusher name messed up. A director or producer should have a handle on thease things. The other thing about this movie that bothers me was when I heard that they were going to deside who was going to play megatron in post production. A good director and producer IMHO while in preproduction records voices before the film even begins filming in production so the actors and the computer effects guys have something to work with or repond to.
Micheal bay if you are reading this I would love to teach you some good Production practices.

Yay, Starscream!! Er...I mean...hi! This reminded me of the clip in the 2-disk extras where the cast was mentioning which character was their fav, and Megan Fox was the only one to mention Starscream.

Speaking of what char's female TF fans like, how about everyone here post their top 3 TF's? :) I'm sure this has been done on another thread, but let's get the ladies' point of view this time.
