Been digging up old artwork,

First Gen:
Awesome ideal, and thanks for the compliments. I'm very sure myself and Kristain and any other participating artist would be vey much grateful for the exposure. Especially Kristian, being this thread was this persons brainchild ha ha ha....speaking of-

Kristian:
As always you have great underwater renders, But I have to admit the more I see of your robot the more I'm curious. I can't wait to see more of your design and thanks for the compliments. Graphite was always a very strong medium for me, so I'm happy to hear it worked out well in bringing Zorak to life.

Moonbug:
Thanks for the compliments, yeah that Lion-O piece is still a fave for me. I sad I wasn't able to work more on it before the contract was done and over..maybe in the future I'll get a chance. I would luv to see your artowork actually, I'm pretty appreciative of all artwork mostly. If anything, we can give you tips on how to further develop your craft...I think to date I've been pretty harmless when it comes to critiques :P Again though, would love to see your work.

Alright time for more art, I promised a charcoal piece, and here it is. This is a piece of the Allosaurus sculpture that was on display at the Natural History Museum here in LA.

And just to keep things in a dino vibe, here's a pen sketch of King Koopa. I was watching the old Super Mario Bros movie and I remebered I did this sketch waaayyyyy back in the day. Was fun...

Ah that Dennis Hopper. Alrght I have a few more I can share, I have to go dig them up though. Till then I hope to see more form you guys too.

Josh

Hey, so I found some more art, these are more digital paintings...I'm actually posting the majority of them here on my album:

josh-vallse-art-gallery-transformers-voltron-other-robot-stuff-t55928.php

But here is one I could share here being it's not related to Transformers. This was either from a Video Game gig or a movie gig, I can't remember. But here you go

And another pencil sketch which begs the question, who ya gonna call?

Li from Cardcaptors

Both are taken from existing images. I have yet to gain the skill of drawing to such a good level without any reference. Although I am working on it. The best tip that I have for others and myself is to draw as much as possible.

My artwork!

Moonbug:
Groovey, you posted your art! The Cardcaptor piece is probably your most developed and strongest piece. And you gave excellent advise, the only way to be better at drawing is to keep on drawing, it's very true.

As far as reference, at least for me, I always use references for whatever I'm making being nothing imitates life better then real life. If I have trouble drawing people, I go out and just draw people. Animals, I visit the zoo or museums and go to it. So, don't worry about using references, they're an artist best friend.

One last thing though, Light and Shadow. Once you master how light bounces off a surface and casts shadows, you can bring any piece to life and give it more interest. Hence why I like your Cardcaptor piece more, it has more of a sense of the light and cast shadows.

Hope you can share more and thanks for sharing with us

I found a picture of Ben 10 on Deviant Art that I replicated myself for my nephew. I copied it exactly, even the shading. There was something about it that was niggling me, and I realised that there was something about the shading. The night before I was due to give it away I couldn't sleep. I really had to correct the light and shadows of the artwork. I wish my scanner had been working. It would have been good to have shown you the end result and the original piece that annoyed me.

I really want to get better at drawing Manga. Currently I am trying to keep things simple and not worry too much about lighting and shading on any original characters. But if I am copying something rather than creating something from my mind then light and shade is definately something I take a great deal of interest in.

I have non fan art that is better than the Cardcaptors one in my opinion, but that particular drawing of Li still remains one of my favourites. It was probably my 1st artwork that had so much shade and light, and it was the reason that I attempted drawing still-life and portraits. Before that it was just simple cartoons or game characters with no shading. Shading certainly brings more life to a drawing.

He everyone, been away working on various things. Such as a website (Visit my gallery for more details, and how to mae your own website) and magazine art. Speaking of such, here's one of the pieces I submitted to PT magazine (Prehistoric Times) for the next issue:

Image

http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn12 ... Ballze.jpg

And since I already have a Thundercat, I figured why not have Mum-Ra! A head study of what he would have looked like in the movie-verse:

And finally, i never posted any sculptures. So here's a college piece I did way back when of The Creature from the Black Lagoon, this is a head study:

Also, Evilratbat:
Welcome, a undead pirates, gotta luv them. like your style, perhaps in my next post I'll post a pirate just to keep the mood. great stuff,
Laters,
Josh

They're not that great, but I'm just starting to get back into this drawing lark again, so right now my work is riddled with proportion and pose problems. When my confidence and skill picks up, I'll go for more complicated stuff.

Ahhhh,
Feels like forever since I've posted here. I'm back to share what I've been working on all this time. Dinosaurs of course ha ha. Here's some work I did for a mag called PT Times, alot of this has since been published in print, however the pics always end up so tiny...so here's some bigger pics ha ha

Image

Image

These two are of long extinct animals, a giant Pterosaur named Hatzagopteryx from Transylvania, and a giant shark eating sperm whale named Leviathan Melvillae, named after the auther of Moby Dick. Here's another piece which didn't make the editing table, an Acrocanthosaurus with a little "Zilla" inspired features...

Image

And speaking of Godzilla, I did some concept treatments inlight of the new film due to be released by Legendary Pictures:

Head Shot
Image
Head Shot with Lighting FX

And him blowing Atomic fire in New York

And thats it, hope you guys enjoy. Keep up all the great artwork, and finally, I do have one question. Does anyone know of a well known Godzilla Web Forum, I'm trying to find a sizable G-Community to help critique my work. Many thanks,
Josh

Ok here is my latest work. Not exactly on the same level as Josh's but people may enjoy it all the same.

Thanks Moon Bug,
I luv your Dispicable Me piece. It's dead on and has a great artsy feel to it ha ha. That movie was too funny. Hope to see more of your work, you wouldn't by chance know of a halfway proper Godzilla forum would you? ;D

No, I haven't really followed Godzilla fandom tbh. But I'm sure there will be a few out there, most will probably japanese sites. Good luck finding one and if I talk to anyone who knows one I'll get back to you.
