They do read a bit stilted, yeah. But those covers are gorgeous!
Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.

Yes, the artwork, the presentation, the story, the format, the intent of sticking to the Japanese version, all of that is superb and excellent. Though, to me, that's but the icing on the cake.

The actual translation script itself, is poor, with such weird phrases as "It's Bro!" and "Live more nervously!", among many others.

Not to mention such a use of honorifics that is so overly excessive that it looked abusive. "Usagi-chan's kitty-chan," and "Princess-sama," being notble offenders.

And everything reads just very stifled. The girls all speak like posh aristocrats instead of teenagers. Usagi says, "Oh honestly! Forcing a delicate young lady to stand in the hall!" and she's supposed to be a carefree, happy-go-lucky fourteen year old, not Queen Elizabeth. It would have sounded worlds better for it to have been instead written something like, "Aw man! Making a sweet girl like me stand in the hall!" And this kind of upperclass speech happens everywhere.

The translation is so accurate that it's TOO accurate. It's too literal and feels like a real rush job.

Watch these for some really good and really well thought out reviews of these books (though, I disagree with his liking of them being called "Sailor Guardians").

He hasn't put up any video reviews for any later volumes, but he has reviewed both second volumes fully on his site.

Also, manga mistakes page 1, page 2, page 3.

Really read what he says and listen. The last thing these books need are blind praise.

I'm not saying, "Don't support Sailor Moon,", but rather "Don't support a company's shoddy, unjust treatment of Sailor Moon."

It deserves far better than what it's got thus and Kodansha fails to realize that, seemingly having no intentions of improving in later volumes.

Kodansha's releases may be the only option to own physical copies of it in English, but they are not the only option to simply read it in English, period.

This is Sabrblade we're talking about. His ability to store trivial information about TV shows is downright superhuman.

The few years I got my computer was dedicated to Sailor Moon. I have all of the manga, in french. I even bought fansub DVDs of the animated series and the live action series. Finally, I downloaded a few fansubs of some musicals.

Why I love this old show so much? It's sexy, funny, and entertaining to the max. Now, if we could have a crossover between Transformers, Sailor Moon, and My Little Pony Friendship is Magic...
