They do read a bit stilted, yeah. But those covers are gorgeous!

Yes, the artwork, the presentation, the story, the format, the intent of sticking to the Japanese version, all of that is superb and excellent. Though, to me, that's but the icing on the cake.

The actual translation script itself, is poor, with such weird phrases as "It's Bro!" and "Live more nervously!", among many others.

Not to mention such a use of honorifics that is so overly excessive that it looked abusive. "Usagi-chan's kitty-chan," and "Princess-sama," being notble offenders.

And everything reads just very stifled. The girls all speak like posh aristocrats instead of teenagers. Usagi says, "Oh honestly! Forcing a delicate young lady to stand in the hall!" and she's supposed to be a carefree, happy-go-lucky fourteen year old, not Queen Elizabeth. It would have sounded worlds better for it to have been instead written something like, "Aw man! Making a sweet girl like me stand in the hall!" And this kind of upperclass speech happens everywhere.

The translation is so accurate that it's TOO accurate. It's too literal and feels like a real rush job.

Watch these for some really good and really well thought out reviews of these books (though, I disagree with his liking of them being called "Sailor Guardians").

He hasn't put up any video reviews for any later volumes, but he has reviewed both second volumes fully on his site.

Also, manga mistakes page 1, page 2, page 3.

Really read what he says and listen. The last thing these books need are blind praise.

I'm not saying, "Don't support Sailor Moon,", but rather "Don't support a company's shoddy, unjust treatment of Sailor Moon."

It deserves far better than what it's got thus and Kodansha fails to realize that, seemingly having no intentions of improving in later volumes.

Kodansha's releases may be the only option to own physical copies of it in English, but they are not the only option to simply read it in English, period.

The few years I got my computer was dedicated to Sailor Moon. I have all of the manga, in french. I even bought fansub DVDs of the animated series and the live action series. Finally, I downloaded a few fansubs of some musicals.

Why I love this old show so much? It's sexy, funny, and entertaining to the max. Now, if we could have a crossover between Transformers, Sailor Moon, and My Little Pony Friendship is Magic...

Sailor Moon's back! Again.

NEW Sailor Moon anime series coming in 2013!

The idol group Momoiro Clover Z, publisher Kodansha, and creator Naoko Takeuchi announced on Friday that a new anime adaptation of Takeuchi's Sailor Moon manga is being produced. The new anime series is aimed for release next summer, and Momoiro Clover Z will perform a theme song.

Momoiro Clover Z made the announcement during a live event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the manga. Momoiro Clover Z sang the first Sailor Moon anime's theme song "Moonlight Densetsu" at the event via a live video feed from France, where they are guests of Japan Expo.

Update: More background information added. Although Kotono Mitsuishi and Tohru Furuya, the voices of Sailor Moon/Usagi Tsukino and Tuxedo Mask/Mamoru Chiba in the first Sailor Moon anime, were present at the live event, the event did not specify that they will reprise their roles in the new series. The event also did not specify which song Momoiro Clover Z will perform as a theme song of the new anime.

Update 2: Kodansha editor Fumio Osano confirmed that the new anime project is not a film project. [Via Tadashi Sudo]

Update 3: Osano also emphasized that no details have been set for a hypothetical broadcast. However, the staff intends to release the new anime worldwide simultaneously. Source: Oricon

Update 4: During the event, Mitsuishi mused aloud if she will appear in the new anime. In a blog post after the event, she said that she is eager to play a role in it. Thanks, Ford Prefect.

Why are you doubting this? There was a whole big event in which they announced this and everything! Naoko Teakeuchi, Kotono Mitsuishi, and Tooru Furuya were all there! The latter two are REPRISING THEIR ROLES AS USAGI AND MAMORU!!!

Also, this just in! According to a post form Kotono's personal blog, not only is she reprising her role, but she says that they enemies this time will not be the Dark Kingdom.

...Um, wait, what? That doesn't make any sense! How can this anime remake be more closer to the manga if it doesn't have the Dark Kingdom as the enemies? :???: :???: :???:

This passes huge. But not Dark Kingdom? Something's fishy here...

I apologize for the "no Dark Kingdom" confusion. I was going off an incomplete translation that others in the SM fandom were making assumptions based on.

A more correct translation reveals that Kotono is talking about how she's excited to be playing her role in the new show, but that her own enemies this time are not the Dark Kingdom, but her reckless past self. By this, Kotono is speaking metaphorically, in that she wonders if she can top her previous performance as Usagi from 20 years ago. Therefore, Kotono is going to be competing, in a sense, with her younger self's performance from the 1992 anime, as she tries to do better in the 2013 anime. ;)

Anyway, here's a raw version stream of the 20th anniversary live event, during which said new anime series was announced at. The video originates from Niconico, but has been ripped and uploaded to YouTube thanks to Sailor Moon translation website, Miss Dream.

At some point, Miss Dream are going to provide a fansubbed version to give us the full details of what's being said by the people at this event. But, until then, here's the raw, unsubbed video.

That sound you are no doubt hearing is the Sailor Moon fandom letting out a huge sigh of relief.
