IMO, if someone were to play Makoto in a live action remake, I'd say someone like Lindsey Shaw (Kat from 10 Things I Hate About You) could play her. Though, she may be a bit too old.

Coughler wrote:I really liked it. Except i never seen the whole series. I hope they go like Dragon Ball Z and release seasons.
They already have... in a way. All of the DiC dub episodes have been released on DVD in 14 volumes. All of season 1 and R uncut and subbed in English (with the original Japanese audio) have been released in two DVD box sets (however, the R set is missing one episode, episode 67). All of S and SuperS have been released uncut in dual language format (Japanese and the Cloverway dub) with English subs in 12 DVD volumes (S in Hearts Collection vol. 1-6 and SuperS in Pegasus Collection vol. 1-6). And all three movies have been released on DVD in dual language format with English subs. The only things not released at all were those that were not dubbed in English, meaning the five special short episodes and the entire Sailor Stars season.

Ehh... that was just weird. Not just the idea it was trying to make, but hearing the Japanese names and suffixes spoken in English. (And, Usagi goes much better with Mamoru)

I suppose there is a slight resemblance.
No the things that get traped in the chaos emeralds, I mean rainbow crystals
They look alike though. Only obviously they're in colour.
I can't look at blitzwing withouth thinking of that monster
I believe you are referring to the faces of the Seven Great Youma. Yes, there does seem to be a resemblance, but it's likely just a coincidence.

Except that there is an orange Rainbow Crystal/Nijizuishou but no white one, and a white Chaos Emerald but no orange one.

Ya mean Toon Makers. Saban had nothing to do with that nightmare (that preview video was so bad it makes the DiC dub look like a masterpiece).

*shudders* Zoisite is so fruity looking, and Nephrite likes Molly.
That's only in the anime. Nephrite was not involved with Naru or anyone else in the manga. Though, in PGSM, he competed with Jadeite for Beryl's affections/attention, and he later had some interest in Ami after she, as Dark Mercury, repaired his cape and said how she didn't like it that he was alone, and then when he was turned into a human (dubbed "Nefukichi" or "Nefurin" by Motoki) he became obsessed with trying to pay back Ami for some awful cookies she made that he willingly ate.

Also, Makoto has liked several guys (including Motoki, who became attracted to her and eventually proposed to her in PGSM), and didn't Ami like Ryo in the anime?

Name change? Oh yeah, this one! Let's just say it was for the greater good. And because I was tired of being SC24. I pondered having Ronny The Mighty be my name, and it fit. Ronny is the name of a character of mine, who falls in love with Makoto in this story I'm writing. I might post it if enough people wanna read it. Pretty good so far. Yes, he is the crappily drawn MS paint pic bellow. He (litteraly) looks better on paper. Ignore everything I said on the last 4 pages though. I was a fanboy beyond reason. (not that I am not anymore just more common sense, and a PB account) SM needs more credit though. Oh well, what can ya do...

What, there's nothing wrong with being a fanboy. Why, if you weren't one, this thread might not even be here. :P

PB account? :?: :???:

Anyway, since I went ahead and listed my favorites, mind if tell me yours?

What is your favorite:
  • Main character
  • Final villain (there are five total)
  • Season finale
  • Movie
  • Episode of each season:
    • Season 1
    • R season: Makaiju arc
    • R season: Black Moon arc
    • S season
    • SuperS season
    • Sailor Stars season: Queen Nehellenia arc
    • Sailor Stars season: Shadow Galactica arc
  • PGSM episode
And, your least favorite dub change?

What is your favorite:
  • Main character-Lita/Mako
  • Final villain (there are five total)-Not sure, I'm only on the R season, lol.
  • Season finale-Same as above
  • Movie-Hearts in Ice
  • Episode of each season:
    • Season 1 - 26 (I think) Kitty Chaos
    • R season: Makaiju arc - The Snow White one (Not sure on number)
    • R season: Black Moon arc-The one with the love Bracelets (The monster of the day almost reminds me of Paul Stanley (KISS))
    • S season
    • SuperS season
    • Sailor Stars season: Queen Nehellenia arc
    • Sailor Stars season: Shadow Galactica arc
  • PGSM episode
And, your least favorite dub change? - Dub change? Definitely the "Negaverse" thing.

Also, despite being nothing like her original name, I like the name Lita. (Mostly because I love the Runnaways and Lita Ford (Previous Member of the Runnaways)) Most of the other Senshi's names are simmalar (Spelling?) Raye-Rei, Amy-Ami, Minako-Mina. Usagi-Serena is another strange combo.

Aww, you're only that far? Ya gotta see the rest of it, dude. Plus, are you watching just the dub, just the subs, or both?

Ronny the Mighty wrote:Season 1 - 26 (I think) Kitty Chaos
If that's the one where Luna's being harassed by all those other cats and keeps being saved by that obese cat (Rhett Butler/Hercules), that one's got a lot of Gone With The Wind references in it.

Ronny the Mighty wrote:And, your least favorite dub change? - Dub change? Definitely the "Negaverse" thing.
Oh, man, that was just awful. First they rename the Dark Kingdom that, then they have Luna continuously utter its name before their name was supposed to be revealed (and when it should be revealed, they act like they've never heard that name), and then they inconsistantly keep interchanging it with the name "The Negaforce" (which is supposed to be the dub name of Queen Metaria), and then they claim that Ail, An, and the Makaiju are part of it as well. What were they thinking/drinking?

Ronny the Mighty wrote:Also, despite being nothing like her original name, I like the name Lita. Yeah, I always wondered how they got "Lita" from "Makoto". They sound nothing alike.

As for how they got "Serena" from "Usagi", at first it sounds like a similar case, but let's think about this for a moment. Usagi's name in her past life was "Serenity", which comes from the word "serene". Using this info would show us how the dub name came to be "Serena".

Yet, most of the other dub names were closer to the Japanese ones. "Amy" is just one letter dfferent and slightly different in pronouncation from "Ami". "Raye" sounds the same as "Rei", but is spelled different. "Mina" is shortened from "Minako" (and what's interesting is that she was sometimes called just "Mina" even in the Japanese version). And, there's Michiru, who was renamed "Michelle" in the dub. This one's okay because of how the letter "L" is pronounced in Japanese (as an "R"), making "Michiru" and "Michelle" pretty close, with the main difference being how the "CH" is pronounced.

Then there's Chibiusa, who was renamed "Rini" in the dub. My only guess is that, like how "Chibiusa" is a mix of "Chibi" and "Usa" (shortened from "Usagi"), "Rini" is some shortened form of "Serena" and respelled with I's.

And then there's more weird cases of Mamoru renamed as "Darien", Haruka as "Amara", and Setsuna as "Trista".

Finally, there's Hotaru, who kept her name in the dub!!! :APPLAUSE: :APPLAUSE: :APPLAUSE: Though, her surname, "Tomoe" had the E made silent, so that instead of soundng like "Toh-moh-eh", it was changed to sound like "Toh-moh".

So, the only name changes that aren't explained (yet) are Makoto/Lita, Mamoru/Darien, Haruka/Amara, and Setsuna/Trista.

And that's only the main characters.

  • Movie: R
  • Episode of each season:
    • Season 1: A Crystal Clear Destiny
    • R season: Makaiju arc - A Knight to Remember
    • R season: Black Moon arc - Enemies No More
    • S season - Darkness, My Old Friend
    • SuperS season - Beach Blanket Bungle
    • Sailor Stars season: Queen Nehellenia arc - Never seen it.
    • Sailor Stars season: Shadow Galactica arc - Likewise
  • PGSM episode: Act 47.

Least favorite dub change? Can I just say the dub in general? That more or less covers it.

The DiC songs were great. "My Only Love", "Carry On" and "Rainy Day Man" were my favorites.

Also, fun fact: "She's Got the Power" was performed by Stan Bush, most known to us as the guy who sang "The Touch" on the 86 movie score.

Ah. *smacks self in head* In that case, gotta go with Queen Metaria. She's the one I know most about.

And I should probably introduce myself to this thread. I was introduced to the show back in the mid-90's, when YTV aired the dubbed version (at noon, too). I've got pretty much the whole dub on VHS, aside from one episode that I missed on account of the fact that the power was out that day. I've never seen Stars, and since no one has plans to bring it over here (despite the fact that, in the decade since, the audience for anime has grown quite considerably), I most likely never will.

I have seen PGSM (well, bits of it, along with the stage show), and found it to be better than the anime. I've read the manga as well, though the library where I got it doesn't have the first two collections.

Glad for you to join in. Hopefully this thread can grow into a more conversational thread.

I am currently reading the manga in it's original Japanese form. I refuse to read the Mixx/Tokyopop version, on account of all the changes made (Usagi --> Serena "Bunny"; Usako --> "Buns"). While only the first few chapters have been scanlated, I've downloaded the original untranslated manga in its entirety and have found English-translated scripts of each chapter and am reading them side-by-side.

Have you seen any of the Japanese version of the anime subbed in English? As, it all has been subbed completely. It is massively superior to either of the English dubs.

Bits, yeah. And I will agree. It is awesome. I've also seen a dubbed version of the last episode of Classic that's also pretty good.

The last episode of the dubbed first season, "Day of Destiny" is pathetic. There was so much cut out and rewritten from it. In fact, it's not one episode, but two! The final two episodes of the first season, "The Sailor Senshi Die! The Tragic Final Battle" and "Usagi's Everlasting Wish! A New Reincarnation" were heavily chopped up and merged into one episode to make it more "family friendly".

In the first of these two episodes, Usagi is shown to have made curry for her family for dinner. The family, however, is reluctant to eat it. When Shingo makes some comments about the food, Usagi, determined to prove that her food tastes good, takes one bite of her curry, and is saddened to find that it tastes nasty. This scene of comedy was cut from the episode's beginning. Later, the Sailor Senshi went to D Point to confront the Dark Kingdom directly, but were ambushed by the DD Girls and one by one, each of the Guardian Senshi are brutally killed. Jupiter gets tied up and electrocuted by the five enemies, and then uses a suicide Supreme Thunder to kill two of them, while at the same time taking her own life. Mercury gets attacked by an illusion of lava that has realistic heat, and gets caught by the three remaining youma who repeatedly blast her directly with their attacks, though, not before Mercury is able to destroy their illusion device. Venus takes a sneak attack meant for Sailor Moon, is strangled by one of the DD Girls' tentacles and tortured with blast after blast. Finally, she uses Cresent Beam at pointblank range, killing both the DD Girl and herself. Mars gets swallowed up in an ice mountain created by the two remaining youma. As Mars fights one inside the mountain, the other goes to attack Sailor Moon. Suddenly, a Fire Soul attack bursts from the mountain, and destroys that Youma before it gets to Moon. Mars continues to fight the last DD Girl inside the mouintain, but all you hear is her screaming in pain. With one final explosion, the lead DD Girl emerges from the the destroyed ice mountain with the body of Sailor Mars. She goes to attack Moon next, but Mars, who's barely alive, grabs the youma's tentacles, and with the last of her strength, unleashes one massive Fire Soul attack that climbs up the tentacles and annihilates the youma. Mars then dies shortly after. With her friends all deceased, Sailor Moon has lost all hope. But the spirits of her friends appear and encourage her to continue onward. After hearing these words, Sailor Moon has regained confidence and heads towards the Dark Kingdom.

In the second one, when Sailor Moon is forcefully brought into the Dark Kingdom's stronghold, the evil Prince Endymion is ordered to attack her. He strikes towards her with his sword, which she barely dodges. She tries to heal him, but her attack has zero effect on him. He uses a rose that wraps around her like vines and electrocutes her, and then proceeds to painfully and cruelly kick her. Then he grabs her by the neck and begins to choke her to death, but is stopped by Beryl, who had a different idea. He drops Moon to the ground, who struggles to reach for her Moon Stick, but she's too weak to reach it. Beryl orders Endymion to cut off Sailor Moon's head, and as he goes for the final blow, Sailor Moon (remembering the sacrifices her friends made) throws her tiara at Endymion, injuring him. He then prepares again to strike again, but halts as Moon pulls out the orgel, which he touches and his memories are restored. He collapses to the floor. Enraged, Beryl attacks with a large crystalline spear, which Endymion shatters with a rose that also penetrates Beryl's chest. But, the shattered fragments of the spear, rain down on Endymion and Sailor Moon. As Endymion shields Moon with his body, he is stabbed by a fragment, and dies in Sailor Moons arms. Injured, Beryl retreats to Metaria, whom Beryl begs to gives her more power. Metaria agrees by merging with Beryl and possessing her in a gigantic form. Sailor Moon tries to plant a kiss on the lips of her deceased prince, but decides not to, as her friends were unable to kiss their loved ones farewell, and her being able to would be unfair to them. The rest of the episode is the big fight scene between Sailor Moon/Princess Serenity and Super Beryl, but it last much longer in the original. And then the aftermath scene where everyone (but the cats) has no memory of their previous battles and lives. The original version of this scene uses more footage from the first episode as well.

The only other major difference is the hospital scene with Usagi and Mamoru, which actually occured much earlier in the episode (unlike the dub placing it at the end) when Endymion/Mamoru got his memories back. What happened in that scene was Mamoru saying he was scared that he would be alone for the rest of his life after his parents had died, but Usagi assures him that he wouldn't be alone because he has her, and as long as the two of them would be together, neither of them would ever be alone. The dub ruined this touching moment by moving to the end, removing all the emotion, rewriting to have Serena saying that she volunteered at the hospital and was just checking up on this guy who had been in a bad accident (Darien), and ended with the two of them arguing and yelling about her hairstyle. Basically, they took a very heartfelt scene, and changed it to a very dumb moment of tension between the two characters.

Eh, I try to steer clear of fandubs, regardless of their quality. There's always that special "magic" feel of the official versions that fandubs cannot attain.

New question: What is everyone's least favorite Sailor Moon couple pairing?

As for me, I have a strong dislike of the pairing of Usagi with Seiya. It was a one-sided romance, with Seiya trying to win Usagi's affections, when she made it perfectly clear that she was with Mamoru (who was studying abroad at the time, or rather, was supposed to be). Although, there were several times, after their identities were revealed to each other, where it seemed like Usagi reciprocated Seiya's feelings, which would've made her a cheater. Fortunately, nothing serious ever happened between the two. Though, they did have one "date" (but Usagi insists that it wasn't a real date). And the most "physical" they ever got was Seiya giving Usagi a kiss on the cheek (I am SO glad it was never the mouth).

Basically, I hate this pairing because it deals with somebody trying to take the girlfriend of my favorite character (Mamoru). In the past, if someone other than Mamoru liked Usagi, they didn't have much of a chance with her. But Seiya made Usagi all confused about her feelings and even at times compared Seiya to Mamoru, and not in a bad way.

And what's more, Seiya, or rather Seiya's true identity, Sailor Star Fighter, is really a female. All three of the Sailor Starlights are really females who disguise themselves as males. In the anime, this disguise method is taken a step further by having their bodies literally assume the forms of male bodies, only to return to their proper female body forms in their henshin sequences.

And I myself am not much of a fan of same-gender romantic couples. I don't mind Haruka & Michiru that much cuz they didn't really do much other than stare into each other's eyes at times, blush at other times, and flirt on occasion. But the coupling of Usagi with Seiya is where I draw the line.

Overall, the right guy for Usagi is Mamoru. Period.

So, what couple(s) does everybody else like least?

Big Sailor Moon fan here. :D Got the first four seasons on DVD, and all the manga. My favorite villain? Probably anime Nephrite. His relationship with Naru and semi-hero mostly-villain was pretty cool, as well as his acrifice at the end. :(
Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.

Welcome. Finally someone joins in the discussion. :D

I'm guessing you've got the lame ADV and Pioneer/Geneon DVD sets (when Japan just got brand new rereleases of the their DVDs remastered in High Quality video and audio - again) and the Mixx/Tokyopop version of the manga. I both envy and pity you at the same time (which is kind of a weird thing to do when ya think about it 8-})

I'm working on downloading everything onto a USB storage drive. so far, I've downloaded:
  • scans of the first run of the manga in raw form
  • scans of the scanlated-in-English Codename: Sailor V manga
  • scans of the scanlated-in-English Parallel Sailor Moon manga story
  • Acts 1-49,the Special Act, and Act Zero of PGSM subbed in English
  • All three movies and all five special shorts of the anime remastered and subbed in English
  • Scans of most of the Mixx/Tokyopop English manga (yeah, I just insulted it and yet I have some of it, sue me)
I'm currently working to get Sailor Stars and Classic remastered and subbed in English. So far, only Sailor Stars and 1-24 of Classic are available (R, S, and SuperS aren't available in subbed & remastered form yet).

I refuse to let this thread die.

BTW, did any of ya'll know that the seiyuu of the Inner Senshi recently got back together for a reunion appearance to promote the sales of the recent DVD rereleases? Here's a pic of them at the event:

They look good after ten or so years.

lol, yeah. It's the best I'll probably get. *Shrug* Got three soundtrack CDs from Japan, though. :) Quite impressive list, there.

And the obligatory favorite Senshi are Mercury and Saturn. Heck, Mercury's debut episode was the first episode I ever saw.

Well, thanks, but it's not all that impressive considering I haven't gotten any episodes of the anime yet. *sigh*

I'm getting most (but all) of this stuff (mainly the movies and the special shorts so far) from http://www.sailormooncenter.net.
