yeah, I was already thinking about toing the whole square there in silver, then reapplying the red in those 3 gaps...

I originally thought about making that blue red, but I've seen a lot of examples of real trucks that that bottom panel is a different color, plus if order to get a true match, I'd have to paint all the reds on him, which I don't wanna do, I like being able to transform him all I want and not give a darn about paint wear. all the aps on here now have nothing to worry about :)

I'd been playing with the idea of painting those red, like you did RL. I like the idea of painting the surrounding details silver. I'm thinking of doing that to mine, now. I'm also thinking about painting one light on each foot white, as a back up light.

you could paint eht smaller detailed trapezoid that's above that white... would bring out even more details of the figure that way whilst allowing the brake lights to be larger...

Thought about that. Not sure I'd like how it would look.

here's a picture of mine at where I think is a complete/final stage. I could always change my mind, but for the moment I'm content:

It actually all depends on what version/preception of it you are going buy.

You'll notice that homages fall under one of two catagories.

Comic/Toon and Toys.

The Comic Cartoon adaptions/homages are usually done by those that Favor the cartoons or comics over the toys and same with the people that love the toys.

In more recent cases comics usually follow the Toy design more then the cartoon adaptions because they work with hands on referances.

I'm betting, like myself, you are more about the toys then the toons.

I Like the Silver chest toy version more because I do think all vehicals should have some sort of metallic coloring. If you wanted more cartoon accurate but still be faithful to the toy you would use a dull coat glaze over the silver to flatten it out to a silver/gray.

If you wanted toy you would Clear Coat glaze it to keep the silver's metallic shine.

I prefer the metallic shine but I would go with a light grey to highlight his face with the eyes painted silver and then a coat of clear red on top of them. It gives it that red glowing eyes feel that you would like to see simulated in machines. I do the same for light blue.

In any case, I don't understand why you just didn't wait for the two pack comming out at Target and just make the changes you wanted then but without having to worry about the black paint chipping.

Looks good but there were so many other options that you could have had that you know we won't get.

one word... impatience. Also, i don't really have the desire to buy the two back, cause i'm not really a fan of the classics optimus mold, hence i don't want to pay $20 for Skywarp when i could just repaint him. And don't worry, this is just the first one. I'm planning on doing all of the seekers once Ramjet comes out, probably in darker palettes like on this Skywarp. Thanks for the words of wisdom, i'll definitley be going with that clear coat glaze one this one.

One thing also that needs to be taken into consideration as to why silver is the better choice regardless, is that in animation and n comics, grey tones are used to represent silver and chrome, etc because you cannot actually use actual silver or chrome in four-color prinitng or in animation. Thus various grey tones are used to create the illusion of silver or chrome. Therefore, even if you are going for a toon-accurate look, silver is still the proper choice.

What?s wrong with the Prime mold. It is one of the best versions of Optimus Prime to date. Personally, I love the new design. What?s not to love about it? It is a great update while still true to the original. And, it even looks great in white as Magnus without his armor.

i'm not sure what it is about it... I think its his ridiculously long legs, the"shields" on his forearms, and how batman looking his antennas are. Although, i did love the Nemesis repaint i saw of him, it seemed to fit better. I also like the 2-pack version of him better, the one with tank Megs. At any rate, why does it matter why i don't like him? He just doesn't do it for me.

not to mention the almost Unicron-like shoulder pads... which really does help drive home why i think he is great for Nemesis.

heres the Thundercracker i just finished... unfortunately he turned out looking a little more like Armada Thundercracker than i would have prefered, but he's a good match for the Skywarp i did yesterday. Also, i'm thinking about painting that strip that goes across the middle of his chest blue instead of silver.

i think either Sunstorm, or a Starscream with all his grey replaced with drybrushed silver is up next.

Strip that enamel off, and paint it with an acrylic.

Greyrider is corrct, get rid of the enamels and use acrylics. Enamels eat into most plastics, and will not cure on anything other than metal or styrene; not urethane, not PVC, not vynil, none oif them. Enamels were originally meant to be used on metal, not plastics to begin with. That is why I always use acrylics.

Well I found out elsewhere that if I use Tamaya paint (Any color) as the base coat and let it dry as it tends to bond with the PVC well I can paint the enamel purple that I used on the other parts over the acrylic and it won't remain sticky

Enamels are best used on stuff that won't be touched, like model cars and planes, otherwise they can chip and would require a clear coat for protection
