Also, word has it that Ultra Magnus was voiced by Michael Ironside!!!!

What I didn't like
1) Ever get those characters that are introduced and you hate them from the start? Ultra Magnus is that character for me. Which is hard for me to say, as I've never absolutely hated a character like I hate Magnus. His "by-the-book" prickliness is part of his charm some could say, but it aggravates me. Someone better shove a pipe up his tailplate by series' end. I was first excited for his introduction, but he pretty much blew this whole experience for me.
2) I guess this is a consequence of watching the first three episodes in direct order, but the whole thing felt rushed. Suddenly Smokescreen ended up back at the base so conveniently, Ratchet instantaneously returned to help his friends after they abandoned him at the dump, Shockwave's (convenient) survival (I would've been happier with the Shockwave we saw in the promo being one of his many clones on Cybertron that we learned of in the Beast Hunters comic, making the toy an army-builder), not to mention Ultra Magnus' introduction was pale to say the least. Maybe it's just me.
3) The Autobots getting back together wasn't as quick as I had bargained, but still a little too quick. This complaint's a lot less major than the others, though.
What I liked
1) Predaking isn't a weak-ass. What I mean is, he isn't easily taken down. A whole damn energon mine fell on him and shook it off like it was a pinch. I was expecting him to be shot down by a few blasts from Bulkhead, but Predaking proves even a bigger threat in battle than any Decepticon, Autobot, or Predacon we've ever or ever will get so far. I'm impressed.
2) Optimus didn't take the Orion Pax dive this season. Remember how Optimus was restored in the first three episodes last season? At least this time it wasn't the first three episodes. What makes it even better is that since this season is half the number of episodes, he wasn't restored in 1.5 episodes instead. By comparison, Optimus has stayed damaged a much longer amount of time than Optimus had been Orion. Now, this isn't saying much considering Smokescreen could patch Optimus right up by the fourth episode, but if they keep him like this for at least more than half the season, I'll be satisfied.
3) Bumblebee's new paintjob = badass. And it has a decent explanation, something I was fearing the writers would prove lackluster to do until a few episodes onward, if at all. A side note: I don't mind Raf's deep voice. I hope he gets a bit taller by the end of the season, just to match up. Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?
4) Oh, Arcee. If only you knew that the geewunner fanwanks want you to reverse your colors so you would be pink. I loved this reference, indirect or otherwise.
That's what the existing comics have done and what the upcoming Prime Beast Hunters comic will do.redsonjustin wrote:I think Prime would benefit from a comic book that focus on things the show hadn't done yet or introduced others while still staying in continuity with the show.
I find this interesting, as the idea of someone being legitimately "by-the-book" in this show is quite shocking for me, as, up until this point, the amount of rule-following and rule-breaking by every member of Team Prime (human and Autobot alike) has been just all over the map. I find that Magnus serves a nice contrast to all that we've gotten up this point, with him being the genuine article compared to the likes of Optimus and Ratchet whom have claimed to be straight arrows yet have often found ways to get around standard protocol and continue to still think of themselves as having followed the book. I at least hope for Magnus to Ratchet a reality check that, news flash, he's not all that he claims to be, that Magnus is the what being by-the-book really is, and that he'll get some sense knocked into him and ease him up from being such a jerk.PrymeStriker wrote:1) Ever get those characters that are introduced and you hate them from the start? I'll agree on Magnus's debut being kinda eh, but we got a good reason for Smoke's quick return. He turned around almost immediately and appeared just as the base blew. It would only make sense for him to appear that quickly to make what he said sound truthful.PrymeStriker wrote:2) I guess this is a consequence of watching the first three episodes in direct order, but the whole thing felt rushed. I wouldn't quite call them all being back together just yet, what with them still missing Smokescreen and the injured Optimus.PrymeStriker wrote:3) The Autobots getting back together wasn't as quick as I had bargained, but still a little too quick. I honestly do hope he gets healed, since I wanna see that awesome BH toy in animated form (but NOT as an upgraded Smokescreen, as Smoke being overhauled into a n Optimus clone just sounds too silly ).PrymeStriker wrote:2) Optimus didn't take the Orion Pax dive this season. I guess puberty kicked in off screen for the character while he and Bee were on the run.PrymeStriker wrote:3) Bumblebee's new paintjob = badass. What's more funny is that her WFC body being pink means that she did wear that color at one time and now doesn't like it anymore. Eat that Geewunners.PrymeStriker wrote:4) Oh, Arcee. What? How'd Megatron know about Magnus's arrival so quickly?

In the scene of Predaking's return to the citadel/tower/fort/thing, when Starscream is taunting it by calling it a 'mute beast', something definitely stirs in the creature.

Same reason Smokescreen hadn't met Optimus although he's the leader of the Autobots. Bulkhead said it was an "honor," so he had to know who he was.

Granted, it's certainly plausible, but it does seem odd Bulkhead never met the Wreckers leader before. I guess in the Aligned continuity the Wreckers aren't as close knit as they have been in previous incarnations. Maybe they're large enough to be a sub-faction rather than a single unit.
According the novels, Magnus was definitely in command during the time that bulkhead would have served in the Wreckers, as Bulkhead left Cybertron aboard the Ark, and Magnus was in command of the Wreckers both before and after the Ark launch, having been one of the group's founding members.Foxbear wrote:Henry921 wrote:PrymeStriker wrote:Henry921 wrote:Sad about certain ambiguities. Another possibility is that Ultra Magnus assumed command after Bulkhead had left and Wheeljack had been seperated from the wreckers. It's already cannon that Bulk left for team prime well before Jackie and the wreckers were scattered for awhile.

Thing is, Shockwave being able to be killed without actually dying thanks having multiple avatars would feel like a cop-out to those who hadn't read "Rage of the Dinobots". I myself kinda found it to feel a bit like a cheat when I read it, as it made Shockwave's not-death feel more like a hollow attempt of being dramatic just for the sake of it.PrymeStriker wrote:That's kind of what I wanted. One way or the other I suppose, but I would've preferred Shockwave die and let the Shockwave this season be one of his many avatars across Cybertron, or the Shockwave from "Out of the Past" be an avatar and the original Shockwave come in this season.
Didn't say so. Just said that a nice big bonk could "beat" him, not "kill" him.PrymeStriker wrote:He ain't dead, is he?
Yeah, it's basically like if G1 Megatron, after having changed bodies so many times, suddenly once said, "Why would I ever want to go back to being a handgun? That was a stupid altmode that I never want to turn into ever again."PrymeStriker wrote:Eat that Geewunners.
