Welcome to the club.

Noideaforaname wrote:- Boulder's eyes seem to switch between orange and blue...
They're normally orange by default. But when he switches to pretending to be a lifeless machine, he switches them to blue while the others simply pull visors over their eyes.

Noideaforaname wrote:- Curiously, Optimus in Prime happens to be in Antarctica while Heatwave tries to contact him. Hmmm...
Technically, we don't know when this show takes place in relation to Prime. If it took place at the sme time as Prime is right now, then Optimus would have been with the Decepticons as Orion Pax at the time episode 1 of this show (in which he was "Optimus Prime") took place.

Noideaforaname wrote:- I don't know why, but I just love that angry fist shake that old woman gave MorBot after "saving" her cat.
Upon first viewing, I thought she gave him the finger. Had to rewind and double check.

Ma Burns? Re: The Official Transformers: Rescue Bots Discussion Thread

I searched the thread with no results, so here's my question: where is Mrs. Burns? I've watched this show with my kids, 3 and 7, since it bega, and to my recollection there has been no mention of a Burns' family matriarch. Surprisingly, my kids haven't asked about that- in their world, there's always a mom and a dad.

If there is not yet a canon answer, any speculations ? Divorced? Dead? Zombie? (Oops, wrong forum.)

Good question. I'm gonna guess she's deceased. I can see Chief Burns being a widow, which would add an extra facet to his character without controversy.

I get to watch these episodes over and over, because my kids love them - they can't get enough! I've showed them one or two of Prime, but tends to scare them, tho they love starscream.

I love Dr. Morocco - finally found my icon!

Episode 14 -

Man, even during an emergency, Kade will do anything for a date. :P

Dani, if you want to get the minivan taken care of, go ahead and get it. Don't leave it there to block up the dam just becasue your brother won't help you.

Does no one seem to care, or even notice, a giant Autobot walking around the Hall of Inspiration, when he supposed to be pretending to be an emergency services machine? Sure, he switches back upon seeing the President Arthur hologram, but others are bound to wonder why a rescue machine is strolling through the museum like some tourist or whatnot.

The Minimizer. Surely such a shrink ray wouldn't possibly backfire in a later incident of hijinks and hilarity, right? ;)

 Hello, shady hooded guys with scheming intentions! Are you two new antagonists for this show?

Looks like this episode will further develop the relationship between Kade and Heatwave.

I honestly did not expect the shrinking to be doings of a duo of delinquent thieves. This is way better than just another one of those "Doc Greene's invention goes awry" cases. 8-)

Wait, shouldn't the Minimizer's shrink ray be shrinking the parts of the wall it keeps hitting? Does it just have no effect on walls?

Only Heatwave, Boulder, and Blades got shrunk. Chase is still full-sized.

For a while, everyone was really starting to consider that Heatwave, Blades, and Boulder had been killed by the ray, despite not actually using words like "dead", "killed", "destroyed", "vaporized", etc.

We get a look at Kade's old fire truck before he got Heatwave.

Heatwave's able to communicate with the others by directly patching in to Kade's communicator. Clever.

Dani, you could have just as easily taken care of the minivan.

Chief: "And Doc said this will work?"
Cody: "His exact words were, 'It's worth a try.'" - Good thing it did work, since that kind of phrase isn't very reassuring.

Haley must really like Kade if she's willing to consider washing sewage off a fire truck as a second date.

End credits name the museum curator hologram as "President Chester A. Arthur", and the two thieves as "Evan" and "Myles".

Another great episode. Not quite as amazing as the Dr. Morocco two-parter, but still very good. I look forward to more after this, what with the new mystery story arc starting up.

Another delightful episode.
I especially liked the emotional interplay between the characters in this one. The way the show handles conflict is very well done. The stress between Kade and Heatwave was enough to make the audience squirm but not enough to seem overly dramatic.

Episode 15 -

Right off the bat, the episode starts with Captain Wild's boat going under, taking Blades and Dani with it.

Hey, the theme song is shorter this time, and its visuals edited to reflect this.

Rolling Thunder's back.

Looks like the Griffin Rock Triangle is no secret. It's become an urban legend.

Cody, shouldn't you be showing that plate to your dad or something? It's obviously going to be important.

Well, at least he showed it to Doc Greene.

Project Midgard... something tells me that something big is afoot. 8-)

The woman on the film log entry is named Professor Anna Baranova.

Hello, secret underground facility... that's trying to drown Cody and Graham.

Baranova's alive? Down there for 28 years? Or is she a ghost?

Nope, she's alive.

LOL at Chief Burns' reaction to Baranova's "old man" remark.

You know, why don't they just remove the explosive form the Midgard and drop that into the trench without having to sacrifice the Midgard?

Looks like Doc has a new friend.

Well, it was fun, but I guess I was hoping for a bit more. Still, here's hoping the remaining few episodes are tied in with this one so as to keep an ongoing plot in motion.

Bit late on the new episode viewing, but before I get into that...

If anyone's looking to catch up on episodes of Transformers: Rescue Bots, all episodes that have aired thus far can be watched here. :D

Or, you can download HD encodes of the episodes here.

That said, onto the episode.

Episode 16 -

No less than mere seconds into the episode and already is Huxley Prescott in danger.

Boy, that Bounce House birthday party being right next to the place of impact was preeeeetty convenient.

Kade's in charge while Chief's away... that's comforting. Also, Heatwave seems jealous about that. :P

First the Bots start a fire, then a bear shows up at Griffin Crest. This episode is really making it too easy to make a Smokey Bear joke.

Wow, keys being considered "low-tech" on Griffin Rock is really saying something about how far they've come compared to the rest of the nation (or the world).

Knew it would be Heatwave who'd instigate their defying Chief Burns' orders. But I gotta say, I really enjoyed his arguing with Chase over the rules. I wanna see more dysfunctional situations between the Bots like that more often. 8-)

SQUIRELL!!!... Hi there. :P

Loving Chase's inner dilemma of who's orders he should abide by.

 Slag! The Bots crashed right on top of Old Parker! If that geyser goes off with them right on top of it they'll be--as Cody puts it--melted alive!

Chase is a natural Boy Scout.

Man, Chase is crazy strong being able to quickly tow both a bulldozer and a helicopter at the same time with ordinary rope while being a mere a compact Police car. :P

First actual spoken mention of the possibility of an Autobot being able to be destroyed.

Heatwave: "Not that I'm ungrateful, but what in Primus's core made you think that tent would protect us?"
Chase: "I read the manual. The rules of use clearly state, 'This tent with withstand extreme temperatures.'"
Heatwave: "...I guess rules can be useful once in a while."
Chase: "May I have that in writing?"

Chief refers to the group as "Team Burns". So that's, what, how many different names the main cast has been referred to by now?

This episode was very surprising to me, as i expected it to be more of the old "When the cat's away, the mice shall play" routine with the Bots doing whatever they wanted while Chief and Cody were gone. Instead, in a show that's all about a high-tech society, we get a story that more grounded in nature and down-to-Earth. A good old-fashioned camping trip gone awry by the disturbance of a bear and a misunderstanding from the worrisome Bots.

This one also gave us something that we had seen very little of up until now: Actual conflict between the Bots. Heatwave wanting to take charge while Chase wanting to abide by the Chief's word. Hot-heatedness vs. level-headedness is very entertaining fashion. I want to see more disagreements such as these in later episodes, so as to better enhance the characterizations and developments of the characters. 8-)

Another excellent episode of Rescue Bots. :KREMZEEK:
This show has some amazing writers. I must say that it has blasted all of my expectations put of the water in the very best of ways.
The way they portray Chief Burns and Doc. Green is especially amazing. Two single fathers trying their hardest to raise their children up right. So here we have the good Chief setting aside Father/Son time with his youngest only to have it interrupted by, of all things, an emergency. Who would have thought? But he is not down for the count by any means. Classified backpacking trip!
:D All the characters are so well done. Even the reporter has depth. You have to admire his gusto at the same time you want to smack him for being that stupid. And Kade…that arrogant so-and-so has game!
:APPLAUSE: It is official. Chase is my favorite bot! :APPLAUSE: I just adore the by-the-book type and he is creative to boot! The trash can! “Can I have that in writing please!”
Now there is one thing that bugs me about this episode. That was a grizzly bear. For some reason Chief burns seems completely unsurprised to see it on what is supposed to be a New England Island. There haven’t been wild Grizzlies in that part of the world for decades…
Still and all a great episode. ;)^ It really should have aired last week as a Father’s day special though. It wouldn’t have altered the main plot flow for the series.

Well, this isn't the first time that the show deviated from real world history. In episode 2, they said that there was an artificial volcano featured in the 1939 World's Fair, when there was no such thing in display at the World's Fair in real life.

Episode 17 -

Flashback to the 1800s.

DUDE!!! Things were violent in Griffin Rock in the 1800s! Pirate ship comes by and just goes all out, laying waste to the town with heavy cannon fire! 8-) 8-) 8-)

The name of the ship was the Oaken Crow.

This flashback is like Pirates of the Caribbean cartoon-style. :P

Cody's a member of the Lad Pioneers, kinda like the Boy Scouts.

Now we got a Founder's Day episode. Cool.

"We arrived, we survived, and we thrived." - decent motto.

Uh oh, I think we got some more shipping going on (Dani and that guy at the airfield). ;) ;)

Okay, now I understand why Blades can't fly away with Cody back to shore. His rotor is damaged.

Oh, Blades, why you so adorable?

Okay, Heatwave is abusing his "Roll to the Rescue" command. He does not need to use it for any and all functions if they don't involve, you know, rolling!

    at Heatwave falling off the cliff after Blades nails him with a crab!

Ew, Cody's eating the fish he caught raw.

The next morning, the search party is on! And Dani and that guy from before wave to each other.

Though aged from time, the Oaken Crow still looks good after 200 years.

...And still sea-worthy, apparently, as it said on easily while carrying the weight of the Bots, despite not having set out to sea in 200 years.

Brilliant idea using the bell to send a signal to the others! Right on, Cody!

Whoa, Graham! Asking if the pilot Dani likes has a sister. This show's got more ships in it than we thought. :P

Nice neckerchief, Blades. ;)

As a former Boy Scout (with a rank of Eagle), I really really liked this episode! Lots of scouting points helped save the day throughout the episode, and we got another piece of the show's history. Plus, we got a new shipping pair, and a great moment of hilarity with Steve Blum screaming as Heatwave fell from cliff. Priceless!

This episode is a perfect example of the emotional detail that goes into the show.
In any show involving missing family members, but especially cartoons, narm is an ever present threat. In "The Lost Bell" however everyone's reactions feel real and unforced. Well, for a family of emergency responders who deal with life threatening situations on a regular basis.
This emotional maturity is one of the main reasons I can not only sit through a whole episode but enjoy every moment of it.

Sabrblade wrote:Uh oh, I think we got some more shipping going on (Dani and that guy at the airfield). ;) ;)

Whoo, yeah. And does anybody else think Blades might have some jealously issues if Dani goes up in another aircraft?

Here's a question. Given the number of Chekhov's Guns that have appeared in the show already; given that the statue of the Burns family patriarch has appeared at least once significantly, given the focus on the Burns family working as a FAMILY is a time travel episode inevitable?

Finally got to see this episode on Hubworld. Apparently, all the youTube uploaders were away for the weekend or got gunshy.

Really, that was the only issue I had with the episode. Sure, we have 200+ year old ships like the U.S.S. Constitution and H.M.S. Victory still around (and in the case of the former, actually still on the water), but they've been regularly maintained. I wouldn't have expected the Oaken Crow to be intact, let alone seaworthy (I seriously doubt that cave was "hermetically" sealed). The bell, maybe; a wooden ship, not so much.

I know, I know, we are talking about a TV cartoon with transforming, alien robots... but my suspension of disbelief can only go so far. :P

Episode 18 -

No less than mere seconds in and already does the meteor make impact.

Oh hai, Bumblebee. That was quick.

Another use of the shorter theme song.

Only Heatwave recognizes Bumblebee. The others have only heard of him.

BB beeps just just in Prime! And is described as the scout of Optimus Prime's team, as well as having lost his voicebox in the line of duty. Continuity! :D

Blades is such a BB fanboy.

 Bumblebee is partaking in this visit/mission without Optimus's orders? Someone's not playing by the rules. :P

Optimus! In all his Peter Cullen-voiced glory! That's two-for-two in this episode!

Looks Bumblebee might be sticking around for a few more episodes. 8-)

Heh, Heatwave's still looking to join up with Optimus in the war. :P

Hah! Everyone wants to hang with the new guy!

New emergency. But Bumblebee's gotta stay behind with Cody since they'd have to first explain the presence of a new Bot to the citizens of Griffin Rock. Smart thinking.

What the-?! Some unknown force is causing the Bots to automatically revert to Vehicle Mode during the emergency. Except Blades. Maybe the meteor did affect the others, as Blades didn't go near it.

Good thing Bumblebee's Rescue Bots toy has (almost) the same altmode as his Prime character model has, as they can show him in altmode here with little conflict with his Prime appearance.

Heatwave, Chase, and Boulder can't even move on their own, so now the humans get to actually drive them for once. Kade's happy about that. ;)

They've all gone silent now too, being unable to talk or interact as persons. :|

Optimus mentioned Ratchet (though, referred to as "our medic").

The others have contracted a virus from the meteor. Rescue Force Sigma-17's ship contained the antidote to this virus in its inventory.

Optimus possibly alludes to the Decepticons, or any other enemies like MECH ("those wishing to do us harm").

I just noticed that Optimus's face in this series bears a resemblance to the Autobot symbol.

Now the three infected Bots won't even start. And the virus is decaying their bodies.

Graham! Man overboard!

Bumblebee saved him. But now who's going to save the fast-sinking Bumblebee?

And the detonator has been kicked on, with abort switch broken. Four minutes until they all go up. :o

Go Blades! And go Bumblebee!

KABOOM!!!

I just knew they'd get the sample with a piece of it getting stuck on one of them.

Hey! Graham's finally getting to use some Cybertronian tech.

Cody's learned how to understand Bumblebee. So much for Raf being unique.

Ahh, Blades hugged Bumblebee.

I guess Bumblebee goes back to Optimus after all.

This episode was fantastic!!! I mean, WOW! Aside from the Dr. Morocco two-parter, this got to be one of the best episodes yet! Bumblebee was great fun and Blades's relationship with him was superb! I hope doesn't be a stranger and comes back soon. He played the role of this show's "Sixth Ranger" perfectly!

Oh yeah, that was my reaction to this episode. Watching the Rescue Bots go into full blown fangirl mode had me giggling. Optimus was Optimus, what more need be said?
It's interesting to watch Bee interacting with bots he ranks. He makes a great big brother.

So yeah

Episode 19 -

Kade's right. That's seriously unfair for Cody to use antigravity sneakers when playing Basketball.

Graham got accepted into the Gremsky Technical Institute, which Chief describes as being "the best engineering school in the world". Makes sense since Graham says that the only accept five Ph.D students a year. But, it's on the mainland, which means he'd have to move there and leave the team. The Bots ain't happy about that.

Hay, it's Cody's hoverboard that we've only seen in the promo art and never in the show until now!

"Squilsh", as Doc and Frankie have named it, is a goo-like substance brought back from the Mars explorer for analysis. So, at least it does have a practical explanation of how it got to Earth.

And after that electrix charge, it's now behaving like Flubber.

Uh-oh. Squilsh can expand by absorbing water. and it's on a planet that's mostly covered in water, so...

But it doesn't seem to like electricity. Still, it's consuming loose, unsecured objects.

It's go time!

It's getting bigger with each object it absorbs.

NOT MISTER PETTYPAWS!!! Image

Oh, thank goodness. There are air pockets inside the Squilsh, so the cat' should be okay. Phew!

Chase! NO!!!

Oh, wait, he's fine too. But he's still trapped.

Whoops! Technical error. Boulder's line of "Then let's get in range" was spoken by Steve Blum. Or at least, it sounded like it.

Nice shot, Heatwave!

Mister Pettypaws! He's free! :D

They've finally figured out its vulnerability to electricity.

I love it when this show acknowledges when "corny" can be "too corny".

I also like these little moments between the human and bot partners. Graham and Boulder's little talk about the differing merits between education and experience was really well handled, as brief as it was given the crisis at hand.

Okay, so direct current strengthens the Squilsh, but alternating current weakens it.

Chief: "How did the Squilsh get so big?!" - did you really have to ask?

Graham and Boulder did it!

Doc turned it into a lava lamp.

Graham's decided not to go to Gremsky Tech after all.

Good episode. In spite of the surreal threat, the best parts were those between Graham and Boulder.

Okay. FINALLY watched the Bumblebee episode and the Squilsh episode. Bee was a pretty cool cat in this show, certainly much more fun than he is in Prime proper. :P Love how the other bots were fangirling over him, while the humans were just like "Cool, whatever." I like how they made him dependable but flawed, carrying over his impulsiveness from Prime that's gotten him in trouble a few times. And they even got the same voice actor! [/shot]

Squilsh. What a substance. Animated by electricity, consuming everything in its path.....it's a bit cliche, honestly. But still a good take, and a good frame story for Graham's higher education dilemmas. And they snuck in a few lessons on electricity. Heh.

Episode 20 -

Frankie calls the Helper Bot "Dither".

Doc Greene's gone, and the bugs are back in town.

The bugs just jacked someone's ride, man. Another abduction.

And three more. And more.

This looks to be more emergency calls than they've ever had.

Chief! NO!!!! :o

The bugs make people vanish... by ZAPPING them on contact! Yikes!

Frankie's still alive (yes, I said "alive"). Thank goodness.

Dani's piloting Blades around the windmills would make for a cool video game level.

Back in the 1950's, Griffin Rock scientists were attempting to use crystals to open large subspace wormholes. These bugs are probes that are teleporting people to another location.

GRAHAM! W-Where did he end up? Limbo? The Void?

They're all in an underground camp half-built inside a cavern.

The Bots are enjoying bug killing way too much. ;)

Hey, it's Professor Baranova! didn't expect to see her back so soon!

Baranova refers to the probes as "tracers", and explains that they were part of a project called the "Sanctuary Plan". In case of an approaching cataclysmic event, the tracers were programmed to seek out every last human on the island and teleport them to an underground shelter for safety.

Boulder's discovered that the probes are affected by sonic waves.

The Sanctuary Plan was abandoned due to the shelter proving seismically unstable.

Oh, Doc's guarding Baranove during that tremor. ;)

The hideout is in the biggest cavern under Griffin rock. That's all the info the database had on the Sanctuary Plan.

The mountain on Griffin Rock is named... "Griffin Rock". Heh.

And that's what the hideout is under!

Frankie admitted to Cody that she's afraid of the dark.

After being rescued, the two scientists wonder how the Bots knew where to find them. Kade stutters in thinking that he must have left the GPS on or something. Cody gives a more accepting answer of their being programmed for emergency response led them to the hideout. Saving people is what they do.

This was a good episode. It surprised me how suspenseful with was, given the rather B-Movie styled premise (people vanishing into thin air), as well as how smart it was played out with everything given rational explanations. And the unexpected return of Baranova was a nice touch, adding a greater sense of continuity between seemingly filler episodes. I really hope that we get more fillers that turn out to be not-so-filler after all. :D

With Prime on the threads for me, and I'm trying to learn more about the Aligned Continuity outside of WFC & Prime...I'll be watching Rescue Bots a bit more.

I only watched the Pilot, Flobster, and Bumblebee's episode.
