The worst weapons/accessories included with a Transformer

Postby Duke of Luns » Mon Feb 06, 2012 1:11 pm

Hey Seibetrono's, recently picked up Dark Steel, and I really like him. The Quickstrike homage is welcome, the colors are unique, he's a cool car, and it's a good excuse to have the DOTM Sideswipe mold. His Mech-Tech weapon on the other hand...not so much.

For one, he can barely hold it in robot mode uncombined. And combined? Forget about it. His hands just weren't meant to work with it(if he had holes in the wheels it may have worked). Oh, and vehicle mode? Lame.

So that bring me to my point: What weapons/accessories included with a Transformer have been so dumb or unwieldy you don't both with and throw in a box or drawer? My short list so far:

The afformentioned Dark Steel weapons.

Cybertron gorilla Optimus Prime(al). The surf bord kinda works in ape mode, but not so much in robot mode. And all it does is turn into an awkward and large bazooka, or a giant sword if you use your imagination.

Cybertron Wreckloose. Beast mode works fine, a neato hat. Robot mode, design flaw. It doesn't look bad, but he just can't hold it at all, and it works so much better on his back. Missed oppertunity more than bad, but I'm including it anyway.

Transmetal 2 Dinobot's tail. Yeah there's a reason it's never used in the show. He can't really hold it, and when you try to use the action feature it falls off. I wouldn't be shocked if they designed the tail to pull off as a safety hazard, then molded a peg into his hand to pass it off as a "weapon".

Primus's Cyber Lock(think that's what it was called). Eh, it's not bad, but I never gave it much of a thought since I can transform him without using it. It holds keys and not much else.

*HINT* Wreckloose's got T-shaped holes under his elbows just for that weapon. :-$
Top 5 Priorities: 1) BW Neo X-7 Elphaorpha 2) Universe 2003 Night Slash Cheetor 3) RiD Landfill (regular, not the yellow) 4) BW Neo D-35 Magmatron 5) BW Convobat (red) & Megalligator (purple)

Also in the market for an Arms Micron Firebolt and Pinpointer.

True, but due to the komodo dragon shoulder pads and his odd arm articulation, it's still extremely awkard to pose. Plus when you try to move his elbow most of the time you bend the wrist up, knocking the shield out of socket. Which reminds me, if I didn't know it called a "blade shield" I woulnd't know what to make of it.

Sorry Wreckloose, Captain America(or perhaps Protocide) you ain't.

Anything the character can't hold or utilize properly is usually a loss in my book.

For example, Masterpiece Rodimus has a Matrix of Leadership accessory to hold and another smaller one embedded inside his chest. Why do we need two? It's not like he can even hold either one properly to begin with.

It's a bit of a toss up really. MechTech is better in that they were seperate to the figure, Cyberkeys tended to be integrated into the figure which often reduced it's awesomeness.

At least MechTech you can remove and throw away.

RTS Jazz's Speakers. I know they are suposed to imitate, what, 3 scenes from the G1 cartoon? They pissed me off to no end because I couldn't close the doors in vehicle mode properly, and they made the gun look....wierd.
