Theories on Megatron: Do parts make the bot?

Postby Capt.Failure » Fri Feb 24, 2012 4:00 pm

Been gone awhile, came back and found TF4 announced. There was much drinking of caffeinated beverages to celebrate and when my brain's wired on caffeine I start to come up with theories on things. I present to you one of the more sane theories that I came up with.

So, we all know Megatron went from nigh unstoppable in Transformers to strong-but-beatable in RotF to a complete pushover in DotM. We also know that between each film he went through major repairs, having lost a good chunk of his body parts each time. That got me thinking:

Do the parts in a bot determine his strength, much like genetics would for organic life?

Let's be more specific and compare Optimus and Megatron between each films, and were they got their repair parts:

TF: Optimus and Megatron have all their original parts. Megatron is significantly stronger than Optimus.

RotF: Megatron is repaired with parts from a rank and file Constructicon. He's weaker than Optimus, but still stronger than other Decepticons. Optimus then gets repaired with Jetfire's parts and becomes greater in power than the Fallen, even if temporarily.

DotM: Megatron is repaired with what amounts to whatever junk is laying around and some nuclear fuel from a reactor. He appears to be sickly and barely functional, and is easily pushed around by Sentinel Prime. Later he dies from an attack that even RotF Megatron could have dodged. Optimus is able to equip Jetfire's parts as a temporary super mode. When in this mode he's capable of flight and can rip apart close to fifteen Decepticons with little effort.

When you think about it, the power creep/power seep between Megatron and Optimus makes perfect sense when you look at the source of their repair parts.

Note: This is entirely fanwank that made sense to me at the time due to high caffeine-to-blood ratio in my veins.

Discuss.

I don't think Megatron was any weaker in RotF. In the first movie I always saw it as Optimus holding back, mostly using his fists. They were in a city and there were hundred of people that could have gotten hurt if had gone all out against Megatron. In RotF when Optimus was fighting he was using both guns and both blades. In DotM Megatron was damaged and weak which would explain why he was such a pushover.

I have to disagree. Earlier, Prime fought Bonecrusher on the highway. There were lots of humans around, just driving and stopping either out of shock or curiosity. Such as the mom and the 2 kids. Yet Prime had no problem throwing Bonecrusher all over the place, wrecking the overpass and causing debris to fly everywhere. In the city, he was simply overpowered. Granted, Megatron got that first lucky shot in (where Optimus actually used his blaster) and Optimus never recovered. For the rest of the time (except when he saved Sam) he was getting bitch slapped around the city, while talking **** and not backing it up. In the end, he was almost finished, until Sam saved him.

In DotM, Megatron wasn't as weak as he was made out to be at the end. Yeah, he attacked Sentinel from behind, but considering Sentinel's power and overall badassness, it still took someone very strong to tear him apart like Megatron did. Sentinel was rendered beat and incapable of any combat when megatron was done with him. Bee and Ironhide together and undamaged couldn't have inflicted that much damage. When Prime attacked him, it was more a surprise for Megatron as anything else. Once again, Optimus was bitch slapped around by Sentinel, capped off by his arm getting ripped off. Who would have thought he was in fighting shape still? And, if he had attempted a swing or even a shot at Megatron, it would have most likely been dodged or deflected. But a flying Energon axe? Even if Megatron up up his arms to protect himself, they most likely would have been cut off. Optimus picked the perfect weapon in the perfect circumstance. I guess that's a reason he's a leader.

In the city there were people in the buildings that were all around them. When he fought Bonecrusher on the highway all he had to do was not step on the cars. Plus he didn't use his blade on Bonecrusher until they fell off the overpass. There's a big difference between the way Optimus fought in the city to the way he fought during the forest battle. He was much more aggressive and he was using both his blades in the latter.

No,i disagree.
I think the body parts dont influence that much in the battles.
In the forest fight i think it had more of Optimus letting going all out than Megatron being weaker.
In Dark of The Moon seemed more tired than being a problem of his body.

Good points. I still say Prime would have gotten his ass kicked even with using both blades at the end. Megatron was more vicious in the first film than the 2nd one. And he was also being attacked by the Air Force during their fight, which also quite possibly saved Optimus.

Starscream mentioned his weakened state, Megs walks around with half his brain... Yep, it's physical. Movie points it out.

That was pretty much my idea. Both Optimus and Megs get pretty torn up, but considering were they get repair parts it's akin to giving one guy organ transplants from the a random nobody, then again from the dumpster out back (Megs) compared to the other guy getting them from Superman with an Iron Man suit as an added bonus (Optimus).

Helps that 'bots don't function like organics and parts are easily transferable, of course.
